Unlike the usual trend in Malayalam cinema, ‘Varane Avashyamund’ is having its UAE release one day prior to its release in Kerala. The film is all set to hit screens in UAE from tomorrow (February 6). It is releasing in major centeres in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Fujairah, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah etc.

‘Varane Avashyamund’ is written and directed by Anoop Sathyan. Dulquer Salmaan, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Suresh Gopi and Shobhana are playing the lead roles in it. From the promos, the film looks like a feel-good family entertainer. It is more like an urban version of a Sathyan Anthikad film that appeals to all sections of the audience.

Besides the stellar lead cast, the film also has actors like Urvashi, Lal Jose, Major Ravi, Johny Antony, Lalu Alex, Siju Wilson and KPAC Lalitha in it. On the technical side, ‘Uyare’ fame Mukesh Muraleedharan cranks the camera and Toby John is the editor. Alphons Joseph is the music director.

Dulquer Salmaan is producing the film under his banner of Wayfarer Films. M Star Entertainments is also associated with the production. Playhouse will be releasing the film in Kerala.

Prithviraj and Biju Menon are both the heroes and the villains in Ayyappanum Koshiyum: Sachy

Amidst high expectations, Prithviraj-Biju Menon starrer ‘Ayyppanum Koshiyum’ is set to hit screens this Friday (February 7). Directed by Sachi, the film created a positive buzz courtesy the highly impressive trailer. The trio of Prithviraj, Biju Menon and Sachy had last teamed up for ‘Anarkali’, which was a big success. Unlike last time, both the actors have equal prominence in the film.

According to writer-director Sachy, the story of ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is set in the Attapadi region. It is centred around a conflict between a veteran policeman and a retired solider. Biju Menon plays Ayappan Nair, a soon-to-retire cop and Prithviraj essays the part of Koshy Kurian, a havildar who is retired from the Indian army after 16 years of service.

Interestingly, the film also has a political subtext and explores issues like class divide and racism. As per the director, Prithviraj and Biju Menon are both the heroes and the villains in the film as the lead characters have multiple shades. The plot evolves after Ayyappan Nair and Koshy Kurian get into a tussle over a legal issue.

Veteran director Ranjith, Anna Reshma Rajan, Siddique, Anu Mohan, Sabumon Abdusamad, Anil Nedumangad, Shaju Sreedhar and many others are part of the supporting cast. Sudeep Elamon is the cinematographer and Jakes Bejoy handles the music department.

The film is produced by director Ranjith and PM Sasidharan under the banner of Gold Coin Motion Picture Company.

Martin Prakkat to produce Aishwarya Lekshmi’s next

Director Martin Prakkat is set to produce a female centric film with Aishwarya Lekshmi in the lead. Akhil Anilkumar, a popular name in the Malayalam short film circles, will be making his directorial debut with this film. The makers had recently released a casting call looking for aspiring actors.

Akhil Anilkumar is noted for helming some hit short films like ‘Avittam – The Good Day of Unnikuttan’, ‘Adi – Fight and Fight Only’, ‘Anch – Gudhagava Jingalaala’ and ‘Devika +2 Biology’. The last one was a viral hit that has fetched over 2.4 million views in YouTube alone. Akhil’s maiden directorial with Aishwarya Lekshmi is expected to be a fun flick similar to be his short films.

Aishwarya has been away from Malayalam cinema for nearly a year now. She was last seen in the Prithviraj starrer ‘Brother’s Day’. For the last few months, she has been shooting for her Tamil films – ‘Suruli’ and ‘Ponniyin Selvan’. ‘Suruli’ starring Dhanush in the lead is a gangster flick directed by Karthik Subbaraj. ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is Mani Ratnam’s two-part epic film that has a plethora of stars from across the country.

More details regarding Akhil Anilkumar’s film with Aishwarya Lekshmi is expected to be revealed in the coming days.

Jayasurya’s latest release ‘Anveshanam’ has opened to largely positive response. Critics and common audience alike have given a thumbs up to the film. It is now set for release in GCC centres from today (February 5). The film is releasing in major centres in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Fujairah, Al Ain, Rak, Muscat, Doha and Manama.

‘Anveshanam’ is directed by Prasobh Vijayan of ‘Lilli’ fame. Francis Thomas has scripted the film with additional screenplay and dialogues by Ranjeet Kamala Sankar and Salil V. It is an whodunnit thriller with some extremely poignant moments. Set in a limited space within a hospital and a very short timeframe, this film offers an engaging experience that often gets very emotional. The film gives an important message to families without sounding very preachy.

Kerala’s own youth star Dulquer Salmaan recently got to meet Yash and it seems like they both spent some quality time together.

‘Kurup’ directed by Srinath Rajendran is currently in the final stages of shoot. Dulquer is also producing the film, which is based on the real-life criminal, Sukumara Kurup. If things turn out as per plans, the film will be releasing during the Eid season.

Meanwhile, the second part of ‘KGF’ is also nearing completion. This hugely anticipated film is most likely to hit screens this summer. Just like the first chapter, the sequel will also have a pan-Indian release in Kananda, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu languages.

Madhu Warrier’s directorial debut starring Manju Warrier and Biju Menon titled as Lalitham Sundaram

We had earlier reported about Manju Warrier’s brother, actor Madhu Warrier turning a filmmaker. His directorial debut will have Manju and Biju Menon in the lead roles. We hear that the film has been titled as ‘Lalitham Sundaram’. The title will be officially announced by superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty today (February 5) evening through their respective social media handles.

‘Lalitham Sundaram’ marks the coming together of Biju Menon and Manju Warrier after two long decades. They both have previously shared screen space in films like ‘Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu’, ‘Kudamattam’, ‘Pranayavarnangal’, and ‘Kannezhuthi Pottum Thottu’. It will be interesting to see their on-screen chemistry after all these years.

Pramod Mohan, who had scripted and directed the Biju Menon starrer ‘Orayiram Kinakkal’, is penning this film as well. Manju Warrier’s own production house is backing it. It is her banner’s second production venture after debuting with the Sanal Kumar Sasidharan directorial ‘Kayattam’ that has her in the lead.

It was only recently that Nayanthara joined the cast of superstar Rajinikanth’s new film directed by Siva. Interestingly, the film also has three other heroines as part of the cast. Veterans Meena and Khushbu were the first to join the team. Later, Keerthy Suresh’s name got announced. While it is still not known who plays Rajinikanth’s pair in the film, it is heard that all four female actors will have prominent characters to play.

Nayanthara is reportedly playing the role of an advocate in the film. It is for the first time that she is playing a lawyer’s role in her career. This is also Nayanthara’s fifth outing with the superstar after sharing screen space with him in ‘Chandramukhi’, ‘Kuselan’, ‘Sivaji’ and ‘Darbar’. Interestingly, among the four heroines, only Keerthy Suresh is yet work with him.

‘Thalaivar 168’ (tentative title) is said to be a rural based mass entertainer just like director Siva’s last film, ‘Viswasam’. Even the technical team of ‘Viswasam’ comprising of DOP Vetri, music director Imman and editor Ruben have been retained as such. Actors like Prakash Raj, Soori and Sathish are also part of the supporting cast.

Rama Sethu: Mamta Mohandas joins Jayasurya’s film based on Metro Man E Sreedharan

As announced earlier, Jayasurya will be starring in ‘Rama Sethu’, a film based on the life of Metro Man, E Sreedharan. VK Prakash will be directing the movie and it is scripted by S Suresh Babu. Pre-production works for this ambitious film is currently progressing.

Recently, through an Instagram post, Mamta Mohandas revealed that she would be starring in the film. The actress recently won the ‘Woman of Substance in Art’ award organized by Cimar Kochi. E Sreedharan handed over the award making it even more special for Mamta.

E Sreedharan, a Malayali by birth, is credited for changing the face of public transport in India. He is well known for his efficient leadership in building the Konkan Railway, Delhi Metro and Kerala’s own Kochi Metro. VK Prakash’s ‘Rama Sethu’ will focus on Sreedharan’s professional journey and since it has a biopic nature, the movie will traverse multiple timelines.

Jayasurya will be portraying Sreedharan’s life from the age of early 30s to 80s. The story will be told from the perspective of two characters – Uthaman, a railway canteen employee, and his daughter Lathika, a textile worker. The story will be about how Sreedharan inspired Uthaman and his family. Mamta is supposedly playing Lathika’s part in the film.

The makers are planning to start shooting in October. Arun Narayan is producing the film and veteran Ravi K Chandran will be wielding the camera.

Prithviraj Sukumaran is dabbling quite a few roles these days. Besides acting, he is into filmmaking as well as production. After a gap, he is now back as a playback singer as well. Last day, he recorded a song for the upcoming film ‘Hridayam’. Vineeth Sreenivasan, who is directing the film, shared a photo from the recording studio in his social media handle.

‘Hridayam’ stars Pranav Mohanlal, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Darshana Rajendran in the lead roles. Hesham Abdul Wahab is composing the songs. The film marks the return of Merryland Cinemas to production after nearly three decades. Visakh Subramaniam, who was one of the producers of last year’s hit film ‘Love Action Drama’ heads the banner now. Noble Thomas is the co-producer.

‘Hridayam’ is expected to be a feel-good entertainer on the lines of Vineeth’s previous films. Though shoot has commenced, the makers are yet to reveal anything regarding the genre or other plot details.

The success story of ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’ is probably the first of its kind in Malayalam. The film that got released amidst very less hype on January 10 has now entered the elite 50 crore club of Mollywood. It is Kunchacko Boban’s first film to cross the 50 crore mark and the actor just cannot control his excitement. He took to his social media handle to share the big news and thank his followers for all the love and support.

‘Anjaam Pathiraa’ is a crime thriller written and directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas. The film is centred around a series of killings that occur in Kochi. Kunchacko Boban plays the lead role of a criminologist. Unnimaya, Jinu Joseph, Harikrishnan, Jaffer Idukki, Sharafudheen, Abhiram Pothuval, Shaju Sreedhar, Divya Gopinath and Remya Nambeesan play the other key roles.

Cinematographer Shyju Khalid, composer Sushin Shyam and editor Saiju Sreedharan form the core technical crew. The film is produced by Aashiq Usman.
