Official: Mammootty’s Shylock enters the 50 cr club!

The makers of Mammootty starrer have officially declared that the film has crossed the Rs 50 crore mark from its worldwide box office collections. The film got released on January 23 and opened to tremendous response at all the centres. In the first few days, hundreds of extra shows were played in theatres across the country to accommodate the crowd. Fans as well as the family audience took a liking for the film, which has reflected in the box office figures.

‘Shylock’ directed by Ajai Vasudev is a complete entertainer that is high on mass moments. Mammootty’s tremendous energy, charisma and his quirky mannerisms are loved by the audience. As per popular opinion, in what is otherwise an usual storyline, it is the megastar who holds things together.

‘Shylock’ has managed to do such great business despite facing stiff competition from films like ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’, ‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakoodhi’, ‘Anveshanam’ and ‘Gauthamante Ratham’. Although two biggies – ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ and ‘Varane Avashyamund’ are hitting screens in Kerala today, ‘Shylock’ is still holding a good number of centres.

Adakachakko: Prithviraj and Biju Menon sing together for Ayyappanum Koshiyum

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is all set to hit screens tomorrow (February 7). The film written and directed by Sachi has Biju Menon and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles. With just hours for the film’s release, the makers have shared a new promo song online. The track titled ‘Adakachakko’ is sung by the two lead actors – Biju Menon and Prithviraj. BK Harinarayanan has penned the lyrics and Jakes Bejoy had composed the song. Superstar Mohanlal shared the song through his official Facebook page.

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is the story of two individuals – Ayyappan Nair, a soon-to-retire policeman and Koshy Kurian, a retired havildar. It is centred around a conflict between the two over a legal issue. Biju Menon plays Ayappan Nair and Prithviraj essays the part of Koshy Kurian. Veteran director Ranjith, Anna Reshma Rajan, Siddique, Anu Mohan, Sabumon Abdusamad, Anil Nedumangad, Shaju Sreedhar and many others are part of the supporting cast.

Sudeep Elamon of ‘Pathinettam Padi’ and ‘Finals’ fame is the cinematographer and Jakes Bejoy is the music director. The film is produced by Ranjith and PM Sasidharan under the banner of Gold Coin Motion Picture Company.

Prithviraj and Biju Menon record a song for Ayyappanum Koshiyum

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is all set for release tomorrow (February 7). The film written and directed by Sachi has Biju Menon and Prithviraj in the lead roles. As part of promotions, a press meet was held last day in Kochi. While interacting with the media, Prithviraj revealed that he along with Biju Menon have rendered a song in the film. It will be out today evening through Mohanlal’s official Facebook page.

Prithviraj had earlier said that ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ has one of the most unusual soundtracks for a mainstream film in Malayalam. He also praised composer Jakes Bejoy for delivering director Sachy’s vision to perfection. ‘Kalakkatha’, a folk number sung by a tribal woman named Nanchamma has already grabbed attention in social medias.

The story of ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is set in the Attapadi region. It is centred around a conflict between a policeman and a retired solider over a legal issue. Biju Menon plays Ayappan Nair, a middle-aged cop and Prithviraj essays the part of Koshy Kurian, a havildar who is retired from army after 16 years of service.

Last year, after the success of ‘Unda’, director Khalidh Rahman had announced that his next film will be with Shane Nigam in the lead. Ashiq Usman was supposed to produce the film. The makers had even released a casting call for the female lead. However, we now hear that the project has been shelved. Shane Nigam’s ongoing issues with the Kerala Film Producers Council is presumed to be the reason for shelving the project.

Ashiq Usman and Khalidh Rahman have now decided to team up for another film. Tovino Thomas and Sharafudheen will be playing the lead roles in it. Its formal announcement was made last day through the producer’s official social media handle. Muhsin Parari, who co-wrote ‘Sudani From Nigeria’ and ‘Virus’, is penning this film along with Ashraf Hamza, the director of ‘Thamaasha’.

Ever since the issue with the producers council escalated, Shane Nigam’s previously announced projects have all been in a state of uncertainty. He was supposed to act in Tamil films – ‘Spa’ directed by National award winner Seenu Ramasamy and ‘Cobra’ with Vikram. But unfortunately, the youngster has been replaced in both the films.

SanoopThykoodam, one of the co-writers of the Omar Lulu film ‘Chunkzz’, is making his directorial debut with ‘Sumesh & Ramesh’. The film is jointly scripted by Sanoop and Joseph Vijeesh, who is also one of the writers of ‘Chunkzz’. Alby is handling the camera and Ayoob Khan is the editor. The talented duo of Yakzan Gary Periera and Neha Nair have been signed to handle the music department.

‘Sumesh & Ramesh’ is produced by Fareed Khan under the banner of White Sands Media House. KL 7 Entertainments is also involved in the film’s production. Release date will be announced shortly.

Release date announced for SS Rajamouli’s RRR

After the record-breaking success of his ‘Baahubali’ films, ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli is currently working on ‘RRR’, a period flick that is being made on a much bigger scale and canvas. Tollywood’s young superstars Ram Charan and Jr NTR are playing the lead roles. Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Olivia Morris Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody and Samuthirakani will be seen essaying other crucial roles.

Though ‘RRR’ was initially planned as a summer 2020 release, the makers have now postponed it as shoot has only reached the halfway stage. Last day, it was officially announced that the film will be hitting screens worldwide on January 8, 2021. Apart from the original Telugu version, the film will be released in all major regional Indian languages.

‘RRR’ is a fictitious story that revolves around India’s freedom fighters, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR) who fought against the British Raj and the Nizam of Hyderabad, respectively. SS Rajamouli’s father KV Vijayendra Prasad, who usually pens stories for his films, has written the story for ‘RRR’ as well. Rajamouli has penned the screenplay and dialogues are by Sai Madhav Burra and Madhan Karky.

The film is being made on a huge budget of over Rs 400 crore. Almost the same technical crew from ‘Baahubali’ has been retained, which includes DOP KK Senthil Kumar, editor Sreekar Prasad, music director MM Keeravani, production designer Sabu Cyril, VFX supervisor Srinivas Mohan and costume designer Rama Rajamouli.

After the smashing success of the first two parts, the third installment in the ‘Baaghi’ franchise is gearing up for release. Tiger Shroff is once again back as the rebel, this time with the company of Ritiesh Deshmukh and Shraddha Kapoor. The film’s trailer has been released online and it pretty much reveals the entire plot.

From the trailer, we make out that Tiger and Ritiesh play siblings in the film. The latter, Ayan, is a police officer, is naive and relies on his brother, Ronnie, in times of trouble. During an official trip to Syria, he gets abducted by unknown men. How Ronnie rescues his brother forms the rest of the plot. It is a tired and tested storyline but the ‘Baaghi’ films were never known for their out of the box plots.

It is the adrenaline pumping action that people seek, and from the trailer, it looks like ‘Baaghi 3’ has plenty of it. Tiger Shroff is seen doing all his signature moves – the acrobatic flying around, tearing his T shirt to show off the ripped physique and break multiple bones at a time.

Ahmed Khan, who directed ‘Baaghi 3’ is calling the shots for the third part as well. Sajid Nadiadwala has written the story and screenplay is penned by Farhad Samji. Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and Fox Star Studios are jointly producing it. The film is scheduled for a grand worldwide release on March 6, 2020.

Dileep’s next with Major Ravi to start rolling in April

We had earlier reported about Dileep teaming up with director Major Ravi for a new film. If things out turn out as per plans, shoot for the same will begin in April. The film has playing a soldier who is posted near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir. Benny P Nayarambalam is scripting this film, which apparently is a romantic comedy told in an army background.

This will be Dileep’s fourth outing as an army personnel after ‘Megham’, ‘War and Love’ and ‘Jack and Daniel’. Unlike Major Ravi’s usual military-based films that focus mostly on the profession and the patriotic side, this one with Dileep is said to be a fun-filled love story. Moreover, this is the first time the director is working on another person’s script.

Scenarist Benny P Nayarambalam shares a great track record with Dileep. He has penned some of the actor’s biggest blockbusters like ‘Kalyanaraman’, ‘Kunjikoonan’, ‘Chanthupottu’ and ‘Marykkundoru Kunjaadu’. So expectations will be on the higher side for this film. Official announcement with full details regarding the cast and crew is likely to be made soon.

Dileep is currently busy shooting for ‘Keshu Ee Veedinte Nathan’ directed by Nadhirshah.

As ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is set to hit screens tomorrow, a new song from the film has been released online. The track titled ‘Thalam Poyi’ sounds very intense and carries the mood of the film. Rafeeq Ahammed has penned the lyrics and is set to tunes by composer Jakes Bejoy. Jakes has also lent his vocals along with Sangeetha.

Earlier, the makers had released a very interesting folk number from the film. A tribal woman named Nanchamma had written the lyrics and sung that track. After tasting success with his first two films, ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’ (AKV) and ‘Unda’, director Khalid Rahman is now set to helm his third flick. Tovino Thomas and Sharafudheen will be playing the lead roles in the film, which is yet to be titled. Muhsin Parari, who co-wrote ‘Sudani From Nigeria’ and ‘Virus’, is penning this film along with Ashraf Hamza, the director of ‘Thamaasha’.

Khalid Rahman has brought together a talented set of technicians for this film. His brother Jamshi Khalid, who had cranked the camera for ‘AKV’ has been retained. Songs will be composed bg the duo of Rex Vijayan and Shahabaz Aman while Sushin Shyam has been trusted with the background score. Others in the technical crew include editor Noufal Abdullah, sound designers Vishnu Govind-Sree Sankar, make up artist Ronex Xavier, costume designer Mashar Hamsa, art director Gokul Das and project designer Badusha.

Aashiq Usman is producing the film that is expected to go on floors soon.
