Mammootty and Samrajyam director Jomon set to reunite!

It’s raining projects for Mammootty. The megastar already has a handful of films lined up and we hear that he is in talks for another promising one. He is set to join hands with veteran director Jomon, with whom he has worked multiple times in the past. If things turn out as per plans, shoot will be beginning by the first half of this year itself. Some leading artists and technicians from Bollywood are also said to be part of the film, which will be shot in Australia. An official announcement with complete details regarding the project is expected to be made shortly.

Mammootty and Jomon have earlier worked together in films like ‘Samrajyam’, ‘Anaswaram’, ‘Jackpot’, ‘Siddhartha’ and ‘Bhargavacharitham Moonam Khandam’. The duo’s first film together ‘Samrajyam’ enjoys a cult status among the Malayali cinephiles. Mammootty’s stylish look as the underworld don Alexander and the iconic background score is hugely popular even today. When the same combo reunite after all these years, expectations will be high among the fans.

Mammootty is currently shooting for ‘The Priest’ directed by debutant Jofin T Chacko. ‘Bilal’, ‘CBI 5’, ‘New York’ with Vysakh, Ameer’ and an untitled film with Sathyan Anthikad are some of his other projects in the pipeline. ‘One’, in which he plays a Chief Minister’, will be his next to hit screens.

D 43: Dhanush’s next is with Karthick Naren

Last day, it was announced that Dhanush will be joining hands with promising young filmmaker Karthick Naren. Sathya Jyothi Films will be producing the film, which has been tentatively titled as ‘D 43’. GV Prakash has been signed as the music director. Interestingly, along with the announcement poster, the makers also revealed a slight bit about the plot. It is centred around the death of an independent journalist, Gurumoorthy, and his wife in an accident, and how their elder son is determined to solve the mystery behind the deaths.

Director Karthick Naren first shot to fame as a 22-year-old when he made the neo-noir crime thriller ‘Dhuruvangal 16’. The film was a sleeper hit and Karthick soon became a talent to watch out for. The following year, he made the multi-starrer ‘Naragoosaran’ but the film is yet to hit screens. His next release is ‘Mafia: Chapter 1’ starring Arun Vijay, Prasanna and Priya Bhavani Shankar in the leads.

When a highly promising talent like Karthick teams up with Dhanush, expectations are bound to be on the higher side. Shoot for the film is expected to begin in a couple of months time. The makers have confirmed that it will be an October 2020 release.

Actor Muhammad Musthafa is turning a director with a film titled ‘Kappela’. First look poster of the film featuring lead actress Anna Ben has been released online. The actress, who won hearts with her earnest performance in ‘Kumbalangi Nights’ and ‘Helen’, will be looking forward to continue her good run. Sreenath Bhasi, Roshan Mathew, ‘Ambili’ fame Tanvi Ram and Sudhi Koppa will be seen in other major roles.

Musthafa is noted for his roles in films like ‘Paleri Manikyam’, ‘Bhavuttiyude Naamathil’ and ‘Penpattanam’. He had also won a special mention for his performance in the film ‘Ain’ at the 62nd National Film Awards. It will be interesting to see what his maiden directorial has to offer.

Musthafa has scripted ‘Kappela’ jointly with Nikhil Vahid and Sudhas. The supporting cast includes ‘Thamaasha’ fame Navas Vallikkunnu, Sudheesh, Jaffer Idukki, Vijileesh, Nisha Sarangh and many others. On the technical front, Jimshi Khalidh of ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’ fame handles the camera, music is composed by Sushin Shyam and editing is done by Noufal Abdullah.

‘Kappela’ is being produced by Vishnu Venu under the banner of Kadhaas Untold. Local Theatres, a new distribution firm headed by Marthandan, Ajai Vasudev, Sreeraj AKD and Dixon Poduthas, will be releasing the film in Kerala.

It has been over two decades since Manju Warrier started acting in films. She has acted with almost all the top stars of Malayalam cinema, except for one big name – Mammootty. The long wait is finally coming to an end this year as they both will be seen sharing screen space in ‘The Priest’. Last day, Manju joined the sets and shared a photo taken with Mammootty in her social media handle. She captioned it as a dream come true moment.

‘The Priest’ is directed by debutant Jofin T Chacko. It is said to be a thriller with horror elements in it. Jofin has written the story while screenplay and dialogues are penned by Deepu Pradeep and Shyam Mohan. Nikhila Vimal, Sreenath Bhasi, Saniya Iyappan, Baby Monica of ‘Kaithi’ fame, Jagadheesh, Ramesh Pisharody, ‘Karikku’ fame Ameya Mathew and Tony Luke will be seen in important roles.

On the technical front, the film has Akhil George of ‘Ibilis’ fame as the DOP and Rahul Raj as the music director. Shameer Muhammed is handling the edits. The film is jointly produced by Anto Joseph, B Unnikrishnan and VN Babu.

Motion poster of Antony Varghese starrer Ajagajantharam released

The motion poster of Antony Varghese starrer ‘Ajagajantharam’ has been released online. The poster has been shared by almost all the leading actors in Malayalam cinema. ‘Swathanthryam Ardharthriyil’ fame Tinu Pappachan is directing the film. It is scripted by ‘Angamaly Diaries’ (AD) actors Vineeth Viswam and Kichu Tellus.

Vineeth, a former associate of Ranjith Sankar, played the part of Bheeman in AD while Kichu essayed the role of Pork Varkey. ‘Ajagajantharam’ is their first attempt in scripting a film. Along with Antony Varghese, the cast also includes Chemban Vinod Jose, Arjun Ashokan and Sabumon in major roles. Tito Wilson, Sinoj Varghese, Lukman, Sudhi Koppa, Jaffer Idukki, Rajesh Sharma and many others will be appearing in supporting roles.

‘Ajagajantharam’ has Jinto George as the DOP, Shameer Muhammed as the editor, Gokul Das as the art director and Renganaath Ravee as the sound designer. Jakes Bejoy will be composing the songs and background score will be done by ‘Thanneer Mathan Dhinangal’ fame Justin Varghese.

Emmanuel Joseph and Ajith Thalapilliyum are producing the film under the banner of Silver Bay Studios. Central Pictures will be releasing it in Kerala.

As reported earlier, the blockbuster Tamil film ‘Asuran’ is getting remade in Telugu as ‘Naarappa’. Veteran star Venkatesh is reprising Dhanush’s role from the original and it will be directed by Srikanth Addala. Priya Mani and Amala Paul have been signed as the female leads. While Priya Mani reprises Manju Warrier’s character, Amala Paul is essaying the role played by ‘Ratchasan’ fame Ammu Abhirami.

‘Asuran’ tells the story of a lower caste family’s fight for survival. Multiple National award winner Vetrimaaran directed the film. He adapted the film from Poomani’s famous novel ‘Vekkai’. Upon its release last October, the film got widespread critical appreciation. It was also a huge success at the box office.

The makers of ‘Naarappa’, the Telugu version, will be trying to repeat the success. The script has been tweaked slightly to suit the sensibilities of the Telugu audience. Suresh Productions and Kalaipuli S Thanu’s V Creations are jointly producing the remake version.

‘Marakkar- Arabikadalinte Simham’ has been a dream that director Priyadarshan has been pursuing for over two decades. The film is finally hitting screens next month. The ace filmmaker has pinned huge hopes on the film and that is evident from the kind of statements he has been giving prior to release. Earlier in the day, while speaking at the Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters, Priyadarshan assured that ‘Marakkar’ will be the most technically perfect film ever made in this country.

The epic film which is based on Kunjali Marakkar IV has Mohanlal playing the lead role. Kunjali Marakkar was the title given to the naval chief of Zamorin of Calicut in the 16th century, whose duty was to protect the coast against the invading Portuguese army. The film is being made on a huge budget of around 100 crores with actors from various languages.

Suniel Shetty, Arjun Sarja, Keerthy Suresh, Pranav Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Ashok Selvan, Prabhu, Mukesh, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Fazil, Siddique, Baburaj, Nedumudi Venu, Hareesh Perady, Nandu, Innocent, Mammukoya, Ganesh Kumar, Suresh Kumar and many others are part of the film. Several foreign actors are also playing crucial roles in the film. National award winning cinematographer Tirrru and production designer Sabu Cyril are part of the technical team.

Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly producing the film, which is slated for a grand worldwide release on March 26.

Malayalam actor Vishnu Unnikrishnan ties the knot

February 2 seems to be a special day for Malayalam film celebrities. Actors Parvathy Nambiar, Balu Varghese and Vishnu Unnikrishnan are getting married today. Vishnu tied the knot with Aishwarya, who hails from Kothamangalam. Close friends and family members attended the wedding ceremony and blessed the couple. The two got engaged last December and the actor had shared photos in his social media handle.

Vishnu Unnikrishnan made his acting debut in 2003 as a child artist in ‘Ente Veedu Appuntem’. After playing small roles in several films, Vishnu got his major break when he co-scripted the comedy entertainer ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ with Bibin George. The hit combo later penned ‘Kattapanayile Rithiwk Roshan’ and ‘Oru Yamandan Premakadha’.

The film directed by Sathyan Anthikad’s son Anoop Sathyan has a dream lead cast comprising of Dulquer Salmaan, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Suresh Gopi and Shobhana. Last day, its trailer was released online to great response from the viewers. Actor Pranav Mohanlal shared the trailer through his social media handle and wished the team luck. His Facebook post reads,

‘Varane Avashyamund’ scripted by Anoop Sathyan looks like a feel-good family entertainer. From the trailer, the film seems to be an urban version of a Sathyan Anthikad film that appeals to all sections of the audience. The film also has the presence of actors like Urvashi, Lal Jose, Major Ravi, Johny Antony, Lalu Alex, Siju Wilson and KPAC Lalitha in it.
