Vivegam is a notch above Veeram and Vedhalam: Vivek Oberoi

Thala Ajith’s highly anticipated movie Vivegam is all set for release on August 24. The movie marks director Siva’s third film with Ajith after Veeram and Vedhalam. Vivegam is a big budget movie made on an international scale. Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi will be seen in a prominent role in the movie.

Vivegam is Vivek Oberoi’s debut Tamil film and he is highly fortunate to have grabbed an opportunity to act alongside such a big star like Ajith. In a recent interview, the actor was quizzed about the reason behind signing a Tamil movie.

He is quoted saying, “I am very choosy about the movies I pick. When Vivegam first came to me, I wasn’t so sure. It is not my natural language, double the effort, and the shooting will be in freezing cold countries. But with just 15 minutes of narration, I agreed. The passion with which Siva was narrating convinced me and I wanted to work with him. It was only after the entire narration, I went back and saw Veeram and Vedhalam. I could see the chemistry between him and Ajith. Both of them are great films but I personally feel Vivegam is a notch above.”

Vivegam is a spy thriller in which Ajith is playing the role of a foreign agent of an anti-terrorist squad. He has undergone a fantastic make-over for the movie by shedding down a lot of extra pounds. Kajal Agarwal is playing the female lead and Kamal Haasan’s younger daughter Akshara Haasan is also playing a pivotal character.

The movie is being made on a whopping budget of Rs 120 crores. It was shot across the globe in countries like Romania, Albania, Bulgaria and Serbia. Vetri has handled the cinematography and young sensation Anriudh Ravichander has composed the music. This big budget movie is produced by Satya Jyothi Films.

Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil marks the first production venture of director B Unnikrishnan. Newcomer Dileep Kurian has scripted this movie which is tipped to be an action thriller.

Antony plays a Kottayam based youngster who works in a finance company. The movie is about certain incidents that happen in one night which turns his life upside down. How he tries to solve the problems takes the plot forward.

Kerala State Award winner Vinayakan and Chemban Vinod Jose will be seen in prominent roles. Angamaly Diaries actor Tito Wilson, who played the role of U Clamp Rajan is also part of this upcoming movie.

The team is presently on the look out for a newbie to play the female lead. Kottayam, Mangalore and Australia have been finalized as the major shooting locations.

Chemban Vinod Jose and Lijo Jose Pellissery are co-producing this movie. More details regarding the crew members is expected to be announced soon.

Mohanlal’s Velipadinte Pusthakam, directed by Lal Jose is gearing up to hit screens this Onam. The recently released ‘Jimikki Kammal’ has become a big sensation among the audience. This peppy number composed by Shaan Rahman has become an instant favourite among the kids and youngsters. Vineeth Sreenivasan and Renjith Unni have lent their voice to this song penned by Anil Panachooran

The official video of this song was released two days and within a few hours it has clocked lakhs of views. The videos has now fetched over 15 lakh views in YouTube. It is a fun campus song featuring a set of youngsters including Angamaly Diaries fame Sarath Kumar, Jude Anthany Joseph and Aanandam fame Arun Kurian among others. Mohanlal makes an entry towards the end of the video riding a bicycle.

Velipadinte Pusthakam is written by Benny P Nayarambalam. Mohanlal appears in two different looks in the film; one as a college professor Mathew Idicula and the other as a goon hailing from the coastal area. Angamaly Diaries fame Anna Reshma Rajan is playing the female lead. Anoop Menon, Priyanka Nair, Siddique, Salim Kumar, Alencier Ley Lopez and many other supporting actors are also part of the cast.

Godha fame Vishnu Sarma is cranking the camera and Shaan Rahman is handling the music department. The movie is funded by Mohanlal’s own production house Aashirvad Cinemas.

My next is an unusual project and I’ll be showing an unseen side of Vijay: AR Murugadoss

It is already known that Vijay’s next (Vijay 62) after the ongoing Mersal will be with ace filmmaker AR Murugadoss. This will be his third film with the director after the blockbusters Thuppakki and Kaththi, both of which entered the elite 100 crore club. Not much is known about their upcoming movie.

In a recent interview, AR Murugadoss revealed that the duo’s next outing will be an unusual project and he will be showing an unseen side of Vijay in this film.

Murugadoss is one filmmaker who very well knows how to utilize the acting potential and star power of Vijay correctly. Almost all his movies have been money spinners that have also found critical acclaim.

In a recent interview to TOI, the director was quizzed about any pressure on teaming up for Vijay for the third time. He is quoted saying, “While doing Thuppakki, there was a bit of fear because I was making a film with a huge mass hero. With Kaththi, the fear was about matching up to the previous film. Now, it is all about what we can do that will be new? There is pressure, but I consider it as a challenge.”

There are unconfirmed reports about Sun Pictures returning back to production after seven long years by funding this high-profile project. Their last production was the all time blockbuster Enthiran, released back in 2010. Young sensation Anirudh Ravichander is rumoured bd to composing for Vijay 62.

Meanwhile, director Murugadoss is busy with the final patch up works of his Tamil-Telugu bilingual SPYder starring Mahesh Babu and SJ Suryah in the lead roles. The movie is slated to hit screens worldwide on September 27.

Dhanush’s VIP 2, one of the most anticipated Tamil movies of the year, was released worldwide on August 11. This Dhanush starrer is the sequel for his 2014 superhit movie Velai Illa Pattadhari aka VIP. The movie is directed by Dhanush’s sister-in-law and filmmaker Soundarya Rajinikanth.

Mohanlal’s Aashirvad Cinemas, who acquired the distribution rights, released the movie in a great number of screens all over Kerala. VIP 2 was opened to largely mixed reviews from the critics. Most of them have stated that the sequel has failed to match up to the first part and that it could not live up to the huge expectations. However, the critic reviews have not had a big impact in the box office earnings.

VIP 2 movie has had an average opening week collection in Kerala.

According to collection reports our trade sources, VIP 2 has managed to gross Rs 3.80 crores from its first week run in the state. Dhanush enjoys good popularity in Kerala and his VIP was a massive success in the state. So it remains to be seen how the movie will fare in the coming weeks.

Dhanush himself has has written the story and dialogues for VIP 2. Bollywood actress Kajol has made a comeback to Kollywood after a long gap of nearly two decades with VIP 2. She is playing the role of Vasundhara Parameshwar, a rich and influential industrialist who is pitted against Dhanush’s Raghuvaran.

Amala Paul plays Dhanush’s pair and she is reprising her character, Shalini from the first part. Samuthirakani, Vivek, Cell Murugan and Hrishikesh are also part of the cast. Sean Rolden replaced Anirudh to handle the music department. Malayali cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Sameer Thahir is man behind the visuals in VIP 2. The movie is bankrolled by Kalaippuli S Thanu’s V Creations.

Fahadh Faasil’s last outing Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum marks his reunion with director Dileesh Pothan after the widely acclaimed Maheshinte Prathikaram. The movie was released amidst huge expectations on June 30.

Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum opened to unanimously positive reviews from the critics as well as the common audience. Now the movie has successfully crossed the 50 days theatrical run in Kerala. According to latest collection reports from our trade sources, Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum has grossed 17.30 days from its 50 days theatrical run in Kerala alone. Worldwide, the movie has already crossed the Rs 20 crore mark.

Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum stars Fahadh Faasil, Suraj Venjaramoodu, debutante Nimisha Sajayan, Alencier Ley Lopez and a host of real life policemen in major roles. The movie, written by Sajeev Pazhoor is centred around a newly married couple who encounter a thief during a bus journey. They are taken to a police station and rest of the events are set in the police station and it’s premises.

Critics and movie buffs across South India have lapped up the movie and showered appreciation on the whole team. The movie is written by Sajeev Pazhoor and dialogues are co-written by National award winner Syam Pushkaran.

Rajeev Ravi has cranked the camera, Kiran Das has edited the film and Bijibal has handled the music department. The movie is produced jointly by Sandeep Senan and Aneesh M Thomas under the banner of Urvashi Theatres.

We had reported about Carbon, an upcoming movie starring Fahadh Faasil and Mamta Mohandas in the lead. Cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Venu is directing this movie which is all set to go on floors this Monday (August 21).

The official title poster of this movie has been released by the makers. Carbon is tipped to be a suspense thriller, set in the backdrop of forests. As per reports, the movie will discuss about the climate change and it’s consequences. Interestingly, the title comes with the tagline ‘Ashes and Diamonds’.

Fahadh is playing the role of Sibi, a rustic youth in the movie. Soubin Shahir, Sharafudheen, Manikandan Achari, Dileesh Pothan, Ashokan, Nedumudi Venu, Vijayaraghavan, Kochu Preman, Guppy fame Master Chetan Lal and Lena are also part of the supporting cast.
