Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar is known for his craze for bikes and riding. Of late, ths actor has been riding a lot across the world in between his shoot breaks. Recently, after the completion of the Bangkok schedule of his upcoming film ‘Thunivu’, Ajith set off on another ride. Some new photos of him doing bike stunts have been released online. In his last release ‘Valimai’, Ajith had done a lot of such stunts and even got injured during shoot.

Meanwhile, 99% of ‘Thunivu’ shoot is done with just a few patch works remaining. The film, written and directed by H Vinoth, is said to be an action packed heist thriller. It is Ajith’s third film with H Vinoth after ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ and ‘Valimai’. Boney Kapoor’s Bayview Projects LLP and Zee Studios are jointly backing the project.

The cast also includes Manju Warrier, Samuthirakani, Veera, John Kokken and many others. Nirav Shah, who handled the camera for ‘Valimai’, is retained for ‘Thunivu’ as well. Music is by Ghibran and Vijay Velukutty is doing the edits.

As per reports, ‘Thunivu’ is eyeing a Pongal 2023 release. An official confirmation is awaited.

Mammootty’s grandson lends his voice for Rorschach song; Here’s the video

As Mammootty’s ‘Rorschach’ continues its terrific run at the box office, the makers have decided to release the first single. The song titled ‘Dont Go’ is composed by Midhun Mukundan and written by SA. The two have also sung the track along with Adyan Sayeed, who is the grandson of Mammootty. This marks Adyan’s playback singing debut.

‘Rorschach’ directed by Nisam Basheer is a psychological thriller with supernatural elements in it. The film is written by Sameer Abdul, who has previously scripted the Asif Ali films ‘Adventures of Omanakuttan’ and ‘Ibilis’. Along with Mammootty’s brillaint performance, ‘Rorschach’ also boasts of strong supporting acts from Bindu Panicker, Jagadish, Kottayam Nazeer, Grace Antony and Sharafudheen.

The film, which is the maiden venture of Mammootty’s new production banner Mammootty Kampany, is running with packed houses in most centres in Kerala. With positive response continuing to pour in, ‘Rorschach’ is most likely to continue its good run in the coming days as well.

Palthu Janwar gears up for OTT release

Basil Joseph-starrer ‘Palthu Janwar’ after a decent theatrical run is now set for OTT release. The film is set to premiere on Disney + Hotstar on October 14. It is directed by debutant Sangeeth P Rajan, a former associate of filmmakers Amal Neerad and Midhun Manuel Thomas. Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran have jointly produced it.

‘Palthu Janwar’ is a rural-based entertainer in which Basil plays the role of a livestock inspector. The film revolves around the events that occur in the village after the arrival of Basil’s character Prasoon. The cast also includes Shammy Thilakan, Indrans, Johny Antony, Dileesh Pothan, Sibi Thomas, Unnimaya Prasad and many others.

‘Palthu Janwar’ is scripted by novelist Vinoy Thomas and Aneesh Anjali. The film has cinematography by Renadive, music scored by Justin Varghese and edits by Kiran Das.

Basil, meanwhile, is waiting for the release of his new film ‘Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey’. The Vipin Das directorial was initially scheduled for October 21 release, but recently got pushed by a week to October 28.

Karthi’s Sardar release date announced

Karthi’s ‘Sardar’ is getting ready for Deepavali release. The makers have announced that the film will be hitting screens on October 21. It will be directly clashing with Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Prince’, which is also slated for release on the same day.

‘Sardar’ has Karthi teaming up with ‘Irumbuthirai’ director PS Mithran. The film has the actor in a dual role after ‘Siruthai’ and ‘Kashmora’. Touted to be a spy-thriller, the film has Karthi as a cop and a legendary spy, who is famously called Sardar.

Rajisha Vijayan and Raashi Khanna essay the female leads in the film. Bollywood actor Chunky Pandey will be seen as the antagonist in the film. Laila, Murali Sharma, Ilavarasu, Munishkanth and many others are part of the cast. On the technical front, GV Prakash is the music director and cinematography is by George C Williams. Editor Ruben and stunt choreographer Dilip Subbarayan are also part of the core team.

‘Sardar’ is produced by Lakshman Kumar under the banner of Prince Pictures.

Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam to be screened at IFFK

This year’s International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) is set to be held from December 9-16. A jury comprising of R Sarath, Jeeva KJ, Ranjith Sankar, and Anuraj Manohar have picked the Malayalam films to be screened this year. In the Competition Section, Mammootty’s ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’ and Kunchacko Boban’s ‘Ariyippu’ have been picked.

Tovino’s ‘Vazhakk’, ‘Pada’, ‘Freedom Fight’, ’19 (1)(a)’, ‘Aayirathonn Nunakal’, ‘Baaki Vannavar’, ‘Normal’, ‘Great Depression’, ‘Vettapattikalum Ottakkarum’, ‘Aanu’, ‘Bharthavum Bharyayum Maricha Randu Makkalum’, and ‘Dhabariquruvi’ are the other films that got selected in the Malayalam Cinema Today category.

‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’ directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery is eagerly awaited by many since it marks Mammootty’s first collaboration with the acclaimed filmmaker. Apart from the IFFK, the film is also expected to be screened at some other international film festivals. ‘Ariyippu’ has already been picked up at Locarno, London (BFI) film festival and Busan festival. After the festival run, it will premiere on Netflix.

Here’s the previsualisation glimpse of Ajayante Randam Moshanam

Tovino’s big-budget film ‘Ajayante Randam Moshanam’ kick-started recently with a customary pooja ceremony. The film is directed by debutant Jithin Lal and scripted by Sujith Nambiar. UGM Productions is presenting the film in association with Magic Frames.

Last day, the makers released a previsualisation glimpse of the film. It is a period film set in different timelines with Tovino essaying triple role for the first time in his career. Telugu actress Krithi Shetty of ‘Shyam Singha Roy’ is making her Malayalam debut with this film. Aishwarya Rajesh has also been roped in as one of the female leads. Surabhi Lakshmi, Rohini, Basil Joseph, Jagadish, and Harish Uthaman are also part of the supporting cast.

The makers have got Jomon T John as the cinematographer and Shameer Muhammed as the editor. Tamil composer Dhibu Ninan Thomas is the music director. The film has been planned to be made completely in 3D with release in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, English and Kannada.

Aishwarya Lekshmi’s new Telugu film ‘Ammu’ is gearing up for a direct release on Amazon Prime Video. The film is written and directed by Charukesh Sekar, who has earlier made the Tamil web series ‘Triples’. Last day, the trailer of ‘Ammu’ got released online. It tells the story of a young woman who is subjected to domestic abuse from her police officer husband. As things get out of control, Ammu retaliates. Aishwarya Leksmhi plays the titular character while Naveen Chandra essays the role of her husband. Bobby Simha, Maala Parvathy and Anjali Ameer are also there in prominent roles.

The film’s official plotline reads,

Ammu thought marriage was a fairy tale – full of love and magic. It all changed when her cop-husband Ravi hit her for the very first time. What Ammu thought was a one-off incident turned into a never-ending cycle of abuse, trapping her and breaking her soul and spirit. Pushed to her limits, Ammu teams up with an unlikely ally to break free.

‘Ammu’ is produced by Kalyan Subramaniam, Kaarthekeyen Santhanam. Tamil filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj is the creative producer for this film, which is slated to premiere on October 19, 2022.

Official: Ponniyin Selvan-1 crosses Rs 400 crores mark globally

‘Ponniyin Selvan-1’ makers have officially announced that the film has gone past the Rs 400 crore mark from its worldwide collections. With this, the Mani Ratnam directorial is on par to Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vikram’. It now remains to be seen which of these two films will end up as the highest grossing Tamil film of all time.

‘Ponniyin Selvan’, based on Kalki’s novel of the same name, tells the story of early days of Arulmozhi Varman, who later became the Chola emperor, Raja Raja Chola I. Jayam Ravi plays the titular role. Others in the lead cast include Vikram, Trisha, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, and Aishwarya Lekshmi.

Criticis and commoners alike have taken a liking to the period epic. Besides youngsters, who are usually the majority of the film-going audience, ‘PS 1’ is pulling in a lot of families and older audience, who are all intrigued to watch the already familiar novel on big screen.

‘PS-1’ has been released in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. It is produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies.

Helen Remake: Here’s the first look of Janhvi Kapoor’s Mili

We had earlier reported about Janhvi Kapoor starring in the Hindi remake of Malayalam film ‘Helen’. The Hindi version titled ‘Mili’ is directed by Mathukutty Xavier, who directed the original as well. Janhvi’s father Boney Kapoor’s Bayview Projects is backing it along with Zee Studios. AR Rahman has composed music for the film. It will be interesting to see how the makers have tweaked the script from the original to adapt the sensibilities of the Hindi audience. The film will be hitting screens on November 4, followed by an OTT release on Netflix.

‘Helen’ is a survival thriller that had Anna Ben playing the titular role. The film was received well by both the critics as well as the general public. It won two awards at the National level — Best Debut Film of a Director and Best Makeup Artist (Ranjith Ambady). Anna Ben’s performance also got her a Special Mention at the Kerala State Awards.

‘Helen’ was also remade in Tamil as ‘Anbirkiniyal’ with Keerthy Pandyan as the lead. It was directed by Gokul, who previously made films like ‘Rowthiram’, ‘Idharkuthaane Aasaipattai Balakumara’, ‘Junga’, and ‘Kashmora’.

In the Tamil version, which is yet to be titled, who had made her acting debut with ‘Thumbaa’, will be seen playing the lead role. Her dad Arun Pandian is reprising the father’s role played by Lal in the original.

Since ‘Helen’ is a survival thriller, its story should appeal to a wide range of audience irrespective of the language.
