Kamal Haasan resumes Indian 2 shoot

Kamal Haasan has resumed shooting for ‘Indian 2’ today. The actor took to Twitter to inform the same by sharing a few photos taken with director Shankar on the film’s sets. The project got revived recently after being shelved for almost two years. With Shankar working simultaneously on RC 15 with Ram Charan, his former assistants-turned-filmmakers Vasanthabalan, Arivazhagan and Chimbudevan have been brought on board to help him with ‘Indian 2’ shoot.

‘Indian 2’, the sequel to the 1996-classic hit, will see Kamal Haasan returning as the freedom-turned-vigilante Senapathi. Kajal Agarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Bobby Simha, Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Samuthirakani, Guru Somasundaram, Gulshan Grover, Manobala, Akhilendra Mishra, and Kalyani are part of the cast.

‘Indian 2’ has its script by Shankar and dialogues by Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairamuthu and Lakshmi Saravana Kumar. The film has music by Anirudh, cinematography by Ravi Varman. Action choreography is done by Ramazan Bulut, PeterHein and Anl Arasu. Veteran Sreekar Prasad will take care of the edits.

The film is produced by Lyca Productions in association with Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies.

Ajith’s next titled Thunivu; First look out

Last day, the makers of Ajith’s upcoming film with H Vinoth unveiled the film’s first look and title. Titled ‘Thunivu’, its first look has Ajith seating casually with a gun in hand. The actor is sporting a stylish bearded getup in the poster, which has a powerful tagline — ‘No guts, no glroy.’ The film is touted to be a heist thriller.

‘Thunivu’ is Ajith’s third film with H Vinoth after ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ and ‘Valimai’. Boney Kapoor’s Bayview Projects LLP and Zee Studios are jointly backing the project. Malayalam actress Manju Warrier plays the female lead. Samuthirakani, John Kokken and many others are said to be part of the cast. Nirav Shah, who cranked the camera for ‘Valimai’, has been retained for ‘Thunivu’ as well. Music is by Ghibran and Vijay Velukutty will be doing the edits.

After completing ‘Thunivu’, Ajith will be teaming up with director Vignesh Shivan. Tentatively titled ‘AK 62’, the film is to be produced by Lyca Productions. Anirudh Ravichander, who has earlier composed music for Ajith’s ‘Vedalam’ and ‘Vivegam’, has been signed as the composer. As per the makers, the film’s shoot will begin by the end of this year and will hit screens by mid-2022.

Kala fame Sumesh Moor joins the cast of Captain Miller

Dhanush’s upcoming film ‘Captain Miller’ is set to go on floors soon. The film directed by Arun Matheswaran for ‘Saani Kaayidham’ and ‘Rocky’ fame is planned as a big scale period action-adventure set in the 30s and 40s. Sathya Jyothi Films is backing the project, which is set to be shot in locations across the country.

Meanwhile, the makers have announced its cast members. Malayalam actor Sumesh Moor who made a smashing debut with the Tovino-starrer ‘Kala’ is also part of ‘Captain Miller’. Moor was also recently seen in the Jeo Baby directorial ‘Sree Dhanya Catering Service’. His role in ‘Captain Miller’ is expected to be a slightly eccentric one as is evident from director Arun Matheswaran’s tweet, ‘A tinge of craziness with Moor in Captain Miller’.

The film also stars Priyanka Mohan, Nivedhithaa Sathish, John Kokken and Sundeep Kishan. It has GV Prakash composing music and Shreyaas Krishna as the cinematographer.

Release date out for Dhansuh’s Naane Varuven

The makers of Dhanush-starrer ‘Naane Varuven’ have announced that the film will hit screens on September 29. It is releasing a day ahead of Mani Ratnam’s epic film ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’. It will be interesting to see how the box office collections of these two highly anticipated films get shared.

‘Naane Varuven’ has Dhanush in a dual role. From the recently released teaser, we learn that one of them is a simple family man who lives with his wife and daughter. The other guy looks like a psycho killer. It gives creepy vibes like Kamal Haasan’s ‘Aalavandhan’.

‘Naane Varuven’ marks Dhanush’s reunion with his brother Selvaraghavan after a long gap. The director is also playing a major role in the film. It is the first time that the brothers are acting together. Others in the cast include Elli AvrRam, Prabhu, Induja Ravichandran and Yogi Babu.

‘Naane Varuven’ is produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu’s V Creations. Music for the film is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Release date of Jayasurya’s Eesho announced

Jayasurya’s upcoming film ‘Eesho’ is set to have a direct OTT premiere. It has been announced that the film will start streaming on Sony Liv on October 5. The release date was out along with sharing a new trailer. The trailer is centered around an ATM security’s encounter with a mysterious man on a rainy night. While Jayasurya plays the mysterious guy, Jaffer Idukki essays the other important role.

‘Eesho’ directed by Nadhirshah is touted to be a thriller. Nadhirshah is known for helming fun-filled entertainers. All his films so far — ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Kattapanayile Rithwik Roshan’, ‘Mera Naam Shaji’ and ‘Keshu Ee Veedinte Nathan’ — had humour as the main element. ‘Eesho’ is the first film with which he is attempting a thriller. Suneesh Varanaad, who earlier penned the Manju Warrier-starrer ‘Mohanlal’, has scripted ‘Eesho’.

The film has Namitha Pramod as the female lead. Salim Kumar will be also seen playing a pivotal role. Kottayam Nazeer, Suresh Krishna, Johny Antony, Akshara Kishore and Indrans are also part of the cast.
On the technical front, the film has Roby Varghese Raj as the cinematographer and Shameer Muhammed as the editor. Nadhirshah has composed the music and re-recording is handled by Jakes Bejoy.

As reported earlier, Dhanush is teaming up with Arun Matheswaran of ‘Saani Kaayidham’ and ‘Rocky’ fame for a new film titled ‘Captain Miller’. Backed by Sathya Jyoti Films, it has been planned as a big scale period action-adventure film set in the 30s and 40s. The makers are currently finalising its cast. Recently, it was announced that Priyanka Mohan will be playing the female lead’s role in the film. The actress is noted for her roles in films like ‘Gang Leader’, ‘Etharkkum Thunindhavan’, ‘Don’ and ‘Doctor’.

Shaji Kailas’ next titled Hunt

Shaji Kailas, who made a strong comeback with the blockbuster ‘Kaduva’, is next set to helm a film titled ‘Hunt’. It will be produced by K Radhakrishnan of Jayalakshmi Films in association with Ashtree Ventures. Nikhil Anand has scripted the film, further details regarding which are not yet known. The makers have still not revealed any details about its cast. On the technical front, ‘Hunt’ will have music by Kailas Menon and cinematography by Jackson. Ajas Pukkadan is the editor. Urvashi Theatres will be releasing the film.

Meanwhile, Shaji Kailas has two other projects lined up. He recently completed the shoot of ‘Kaapa’ starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Asif Ali, Aparna Balamurali and Anna Ben. It is a gangster film based on Indugopan’s story. Shaji Kailas is also reuniting up with Mohanlal for an experimental film titled ‘Alone’. The pandemic film which only stars Mohanlal is expected to release soon.

Release date announced for Dhanush’s Vaathi

It has been announced that Dhanush’s upcoming Tamil-Telugu bilingual ‘Vaathi’/’Sir’ will hit screens on December 2. The film has Dhanush in a teacher’s role. Both versions of the film have been shot seperately and the actor has dubbed it all by himself.

‘Vaathi’ is directed by Venky Atluri, who is known for helming films like ‘Tholi Prema’, ‘Rang De’ and ‘Mr Majnu’. It has Malayali actress Samyuktha Menon as the female lead. She is also playing a teacher’s role in the film. P Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani, Samuthirakani, Aadukalam Naren, Ilavarasu, Hareesh Peradi, Praveena and many others are part of the cast.

‘Vaathi’ has music by GV Prakash, cinematography by Yuvraj and editing by Navin Nooli. Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas are jointly producing
the film.

Sharafudheen and Rajisha Vijayan’s new film begins

We had recently reported about Sharafudheen and Rajisha Vijayan playing the leads in costume designer Stephy Zaviour’s directorial debut. The film went on floors last day with a customary pooja ceremony. Scripted by Mahesh Gopal and Jai Vishnu, the film, which is yet to be titled, is billed as a family entertainer set in Pathanamthitta.

According to the makers, the film will capture the culture and life in Pathanamthitta, a milieu rarely explored in Malayalam cinema. The cast also includes Vijayaraghavan, Sunil Sukhada, Biju Sopanam, Bindu Panicker, Arsha Baiju and quite a few newcomers.

Hridayam-fame Hesham Abdul Wahab has been signed as the music director. Chandru Selva Raj is the director of photography and Appu Bhattathiri will serve as the editor. The film is being produced by B3M Creations, the banner which is also backing the upcoming film ‘Bullet Diaries’ starring Dhyan Sreenivasan.

Pre-production begins for Tovino’s next with Forensic makers

Tovino Thomas is teaming up with his Forensic directors Akhil Paul and Anas Khan for a new film titled Identity. Touted to be an action-thriller, the film has Madonna Sebastian as the female lead. The makers are planning to start shooting only next year but they have already begun the pre-production works.

Recently, director Akhil Paul took to his social media handle to share photos taken with Tovino, Anas Khan, and cinematographer Anu Moothedath (Athiran) from one of their recent discussions. ‘Forensic’ producers Ragam Movies and Raju Malliath are backing ‘Identity’ in association with Century Kochumon. More details regarding the cast and crew are awaited.

Tovino meanwhile has wrapped up the shoot of ‘Adrishya Jalakangal’ directed by Dr Biju. Also starring Tovino Thomas, Nimisha Sajayan and Indrans, the film, which marks the Malayalam debut of leading Telugu production house Mythri Movie Makers.
