Yoodle Films picks up Kaapa

Shoot for the Shaji Kailas directorial ‘Kaapa’ ia currently underway. The film starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Asif Ali, Aparna Balamurali and Anna Ben as the leads is touted to be an action-packed crime thriller. Jinu V Abraham and Dolwin Kuriakose are producing the film for Theatre of Dreams and Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) Writers Union. It is the first ever film to be backed by FEFKA Writers Union.

Yoodle Films, the film division of Saregama, a leading music label owned by the RP- Sanjiv Goenka Group of companies, has now joined the production of ‘Kaapa’. They first forayed into Malayalam film industry by backing the upcoming Nivin Pauly-starrer ‘Padavettu’. They are also backing Tovino’s upcoming film ‘Anveshippin Kandethum’, besides signing a multi-project deal with him. The banner is also teaming up with Prithviraj for his maiden web series. He will be directing and acting in the Hindi series based on ‘Biscuit King’ Rajan Pillai.

About producing ‘Kaapa’, Siddharth Anand Kumar, Saregama’s Films & Events Vice President, said in a statement, “With Kaapa we are excited to get into the action thriller genre. Prithviraj & Shaji Kailas do not need any introduction and this film is going to push the mass narrative envelope even further. We have the privilege of working with some of the finest actors, directors, and technicians in the Malayalam film industry and we are sure of packing a punch.”

‘Kaapa’, scripted by novelist Indugopan based on one of his stories, is touted to be an action thriller centered around gangsters in Thiruvananthapuram city.

Tinu Pappachan’s next with Kunchacko Boban, Antony Varghese and Arjun Ashokan begins

After the success of ‘Ajagajantharam’, director Tinu Pappachan has started works on his next. The film stars Kunchacko Boban, Antony Varghese and Arjun Ashokan as the leads. Its shoot kick-started recently in Thalassery. Actor Joy Mathew has scripted the film. He has earlier penned films like ‘Shutter’ and ‘Uncle’, both of which were directed by him.

Tinu Pappachan, who made his directorial debut with the jailbreak thriller ‘Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil’, is known for helming action-packed films. It is not yet known if his upcoming film will also be high on action. Details regarding its genre and other cast, crew members are awaited.

While Antony and Arjun have previously worked with Tinu Pappachan, this is Kunchacko Boban’s first outing with the director. Kunchacko Boban, meanwhile, has a promising line up of films including ‘Nna Thaan Case Kodu’, Mahesh Narayanan’s ‘Ariyippu’, ‘Rendagam’/’Ottu’, ‘Enthada Saji’ and ‘Pakalum Paathiravum’.

Kamal Haasan to produce Udhayanidhi Stalin’s next

In the recently held event celebrating Red Giant Movies’ 15th year in cinema, Kamal Haasan announced that Udhayanidhi Stalin will be playing the lead in the 54th production venture of his banner, Raajkamal Films International (RKFI).

The announcement came as a big surprise as both Kamal and Udhayanidhi come from different political factions. Apparently, the two have decided to keep politics away from cinema. Details regarding who will be directing Udhayanidhi’s film for RKFI are not yet known.

Earlier in 2010, Udhayanidhi had produced Kamal Haasan’s Manmadhan Ambu. More recently, the former’s Red Giant Movies collaborated with RKFI by distributing the all-time blockbuster ‘Vikram’ across Tamil Nadu.

Besides the Udhayanidhi film, RKFI is also producing another project starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi. ‘Rangoon’ director Rajkumar Periasamy will be helming that film.

KGF music director Ravi Basrur joins Prithviraj’s Kaaliyan

It has been a few years since Prithviraj’s epic film ‘Kaaliyan’ got announced. The makers had to postpone the project due to multiple reasons, including Prithviraj’s tight schedule and the pandemic. However, they are now back on track and are planning to begin shooting by the end of this year. The team have been involved in the extensive pre-production works all this while.

Recently, it was announced that ‘KGF’ fame Ravi Basrur will be composing music for this big-scale actioner. The composer made his Malayalam debut with the off-road racing action thriller ‘Muddy’. Him joining the team of ‘Kaaliyan’ has certainly heightened the expectations.

Mahesh S, who is a Kalaripayattu guru, is making his directorial debut with ‘Kaaliyan’, which is based on the Southern Ballads (Thekkan Paatukal). BT Anil Kumar has scripted the film, which tells the story of Kunchirakkottu Kali, a warrior who lived in the 17th century in Venad. Kaaliyan was a trusted disciple of Iravikkutty Pillai, a legendary warrior. Though Iraivikutty Pillai and his life story went on to be a part of history, Kaaliyan remained an unsung hero.

The makers had initially announced that Prithviraj will be playing the titular role and veteran Tamil actor Sathyraj will be essaying the part of Iravikutty Pillai. But it remains to be seen if there will be changes in the cast.

Shoot for the Shaji Kailas directorial ‘Kaapa’ ia currently progressing at a brisk pace. The film stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Asif Ali, Aparna Balamurali and Anna Ben as the leads. Prithviraj plays a gangster named Kotta Madhu in it. Last day, the makers released a short making video featuring how they shot an action sequence with Prithviraj. The actor looks intense and rugged reminding one of his ‘Anwar’ days.

Kunchacko Boban’s next, ‘Nna Thaan Case Kodu’ with Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval of ‘Android Kunjappan Ver 5.25’ is set screens on August 12. Recently, the makers had released a song from the film. It is the reproduced version of Ouseppachan’s classic song ‘Devadoothar Paadi’ from the Mammootty starrer ‘Kaathodu Kaathoram’. While KJ Yesudas sung the original, the latest version is rendered by Biju Narayanan. Dawn Vincent has reproduced the song.

Kunchacko Boban’s steps in the song has gone viral with the video fetching 4.4 million views within 2 days of its release. The actor himself has choreographed the dance steps. He plays a thief named Kozhummal Rajeevan in the film and his makeover has already grabbed attention.

Touted to a satirical courtroom drama, ‘Nna Thaan Case Kodu’ is directed by Ratheesh Balakrishna Poduval of ‘Android Kunjappan’ fame. Vinay Forrt, Tamil actress Gayathrie Shankar of ‘Super Deluxe’ fame, Saiju Kurup, Rajesh Madhavan, and Jaffer Idukki will also be seen in major roles.

Santhosh T Kuruvilla is producing the film with Kunchacko Boban, and Sherin Rachel Santhosh as the co-producers.

Mammootty launches the Malayalam trailer of Sita Ramam

The Malayalam trailer of Dulquer Salmaan’s upcoming trilingual film ‘Sita Ramam’ has been released. Megastar Mammootty shared the trailer through his official social media handle. Earlier, the makers had released the Telugu and Tamil versions of the trailer. The film directed by Telugu filmmaker Hanu Raghavapudi is touted to be a period love story. It has Dulquer playing an army officer named Lieutenant Ram. Mrunal Thakur is paired with Dulquer in the film. Rashmika Mandanna essays another important role named Afreen.

The film also stars Prakash Raj, Vennela Kishore, Murali Sharma, Sumanth and Gautam Vasudev Menon in crucial roles. It has cinematography by PS Vinod and music by Vishal Chandrasekhar. Swapna Cinema is producing ‘Sita Ramam’ and Priyanka Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies will be presenting it. As confirmed by the makers, the film is slated to hit screens on August 5.

The team, including Dulquer and Mrunal Thakur, is doing promotional tours currently and they will be in Kochi today.

The first look of Dhanush-starrer ‘Vaathi’ has been released one day ahead of his birthday. The makers have announced that the teaser will be released tomorrow at 6 PM as a special treat for the star’s fans.

‘Vaathi’ is a Tamil-Telugu bilingual directed by Venky Atluri, who is known for helming films like ‘Tholi Prema’, ‘Rang De’ and ‘Mr Majnu’. It has Malayali actress Samyuktha Menon as the female lead. Both the actors are reportedly playing teachers in the film.

The upcoming Malayalam film ’19 (1)(a)’ starring Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen as the leads has been confirmed as a direct OTT release. The makers have announced that the film will be having its premiere on Disney + Hotstar. However, the release date has not yet been announced.

’19 (1)(a)’ is written and directed by debutante Indu VS. As per the makers, the film has a pan-Indian subject that demands strong performers like Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen. Though the former has previously made a brief appearance in ‘Marconi Mathai’, this is his first full fledged role in a Malayalam film.

Indrajith Sukumaran, Indrans, Srikanth Murali, Arya Salim, Bhagath Manuel and Deepak Parambol are some of the others in the cast. ’96’ fame Govind Vasantha is the music director and Kerala State award winner Manesh Madhavan is handling the cinematography. The film is produced by Anto Joseph Film Company.

Vishal’s new film ‘Laththi’ is gearing up for released in September. The makers have already kick-started the promotional activities by launching the teaser last day. Vishal plays a police constable’s role in the film. The teaser shows him fighting several guns in a multi storey building under construction. As per a report, the film is about a police constable, who gets trapped in a building with his 10-year-old kid, and how they escape from the building surrounded by a group of enemies.

Written and directed by A Vinoth Kumar, ‘Laththi’ promises to be an action thriller. Though Vishal has done cop roles before, this promises to be something different. In a recent tweet, Vishal himself confirmed this. He added that ‘Laththi’ was an experience for a lifetime with Peter Hein, who has choreographed the stunts in the film.

Sunaina plays the female lead’s role in the film, which has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. It is set for to hit scenes on September 15 in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam.
