Shoot wrapped up for Olavum Theeravum; Film to be released in black and white format

Shoot for ‘Olavum Theeravum’, the Mohanlal-Priyadarshan segment in the upcoming Netflix anthology has been completed. It is part of the 10-part film series, which are all based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s stories. It is a remake of ‘Olavum Theeravum’, the 1970-classic directed by PN Menon. MT had scripted the film based on his own story of the same title, which was published in 1957.

Priyadarshan is retelling the story with Mohanlal playing the lead role of Bapputty, essayed by Madhu in the orginal film. Durga Krishna essays the female lead’s role. Hareesh Peradi and Mammukoya are also playing main roles in the film. Santosh Sivan is the cameraman and Sabu Cyril handles the production design. It is also learnt that the film will be released in black and white format.

The Netflix project also has films directed by Santosh Sivan, Rathish Ambat, MT’s daughter Aswathy V Nair, Shyamaprasad and Jayaraj. Priyadarshan is helming another segment with Biju Menon in it. A formal announcement regarding the directors and team members is expected to be made soon.

Thallumaala trailer promises an action-packed entertainer

The trailer of Tovino’s upcoming film ‘Thallumaala’ has been released. The film directed by Khalid Rahman, who previously made ‘Anuraga Karikkin Vellam’, ‘Unda’ and ‘Love’. Scripted jointly by Muhsin and ‘Thamaasha’ fame Ashraf Hamza, ‘Thallumaala’ promises to be an action-packed entertainer. Tovino plays a character named Manavalan Wasim in the film. Kalyani Priyadarshan essays the female lead’s role. Shine Tom Chacko is also playing a prominent role as a cop.

According to the makers, ‘Thallumaala’ is an experimental film which they shot for 102 days. It has Jimshi Khalid as the cinematographer and Vishnu Vijay handling the music department. Vivek Harshan edited the racy trailer.

The film also stars Chemban Vinod Jose, Shine Tom Chacko, Binu Pappu, Lukman, Johny Antony and Gokulan among others. It has been announced that the film will be hitting screens on August 12.

Akhil Akkineni-Mammootty film Agent teaser gets great reception

The teaser of Akhil Akkineni’s much hyped spy-thriller ‘Agent’ got released recently. The teaser has fetched a whopping 11 million views within a day of its release. Since the makers are planning it as a pan-Indian film, the teaser has been released in 5 languages. Apart from the original Telugu version, it has been dubbed and released in Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi and Kannada languages.

‘Agent’ is an espionage thriller made on a big scale. Surender Reddy of ‘Race Gurram’ fame is directing the film and it is scripted by Vakkantham Vamsi. The teaser introduces Akhil’s character as ‘the most notorious, most ruthless patriot’. Mammootty essays a character named Mahadev, who is the head of the national security agency. He is assigned to capture Akhil.

Shoot for ‘Agent’ is currently in the final stages. The film is produced by Ramabrahmam Sunkara, and co-produced by Ajay Sunkara and Pathi Deepa Reddy under the banners of AK Entertainments and Surender 2 Cinema, respectively. The technical crew includes Hip Hop Tamizha as the music director, Rasool Ellore as the cinematographer and Naveen Nooli as the editor.

Malayankunju trailer promises a thrilling survival drama

Fahadh Faasil’s long-awaited film ‘Malayankunju’ is set to release in theatre release on July 22. Meanwhile, the makers have shared its trailer online. Set in a rural backdrop, the film has Fahadh in a grey-shaded role. The conflict is about how he gets trapped in a landslide and whether he manages to survive. Rajisha Vijayan plays the female lead.

‘Malayankunju’ is directed by debutant Sajimon Prabhakar, who has assisted many senior filmmakers. Mahesh Narayanan, who had directed Fahadh Faasil in ‘Take Off’, ‘Malik’ and ‘CU Soon’, has scripted the film. He is also debuting as a cinematographer with this film. AR Rahman is making his comeback to Malayalam by scoring its music. It is his third Malayalam film after ‘Yodha’, and the yet-to-be-released ‘Aadujeevitham’.

‘Malayankunju’ marks Fahadh’s return to the big screen with a Malayalam film after a 2 year long gap. His last Malayalam release was ‘Trance’ in February 20, 2020. His last few outings in Malayalam — ‘CU Soon’, ‘Joji’, ‘Malik’ and ‘Irul’ have all been OTT releases.

Release date of Suresh Gopi’s Paappan confirmed

The much-awaited Suresh Gopi starrer ‘Paappan’ has finally got its release date. The makers have announced that the film will be hitting screens worldwide on July 29. The Joshiy directorial has high expectations since he is reuniting with Suresh Gopi after a very long gap.

‘Paappan’ has Suresh Gopi playing a police officer named Abraham Mathew Mathan. Though he has done a lot of cop characters before, this is said to be a role with multiple shades. He will be appearing in two different looks in the film, which includes a salt-and-pepper bearded getup. Scripted by RJ Shaan, the film is a crime-investigation thriller with mystery and suspense elements in it.

Gokul Suresh, Kaniha, Sunny Wayne, Nyla Usha and Neeta Pillai are also playing prominent roles in the film.

Fahadh Faasil-Akhil Sathyan film Pachuvum Athbuthavilakkum confirmed as December release

As told earlier by us, Fahadh Faasil is teaming up with Sathyan Anthikad’s son Akhil Sathyan for a film titled ‘Pachuvum Athbuthavilakkum’. The film had originally gone on floors in January, 2020 but shoot had to be stopped halfway due to the pandemic. The makers are now planning to resume works are release it in December.

‘Pachuvum Athbuthavilakkum’ has Fahadh playing a Mumbai-based Malayali youth. As per Akhil Sathyan, Fahadh’s is a fun character that offers enough scope for him to display his humour skills. The film is centred around his journey from Mumbai to Kerala and then to Goa. It is essentially the story of a young girl and an older woman, and how Fahadh’s character connects them both.

The film has three female leads – Viji Venkatesh, Dhwanu Rajesh and Anjana Jayaprakash. Viji, a renowned author, is debuting as an actor with this film. Dhwani Rajesh, a 13-year-old who had earlier starred in the Majid Majidi directorial ‘Beyond The Clouds’ is essaying a crucial role. Anjana Jayaprakash, who had appeared in the Tamil-English web series ‘Queen’, is the other female lead.

Sharan Velayudhan of ‘Ambili’ fame is the DOP and Justin Prabhakaran is handling the music. Besides scripting and directing, Akhil Sathyan is also editing the film. It is produced by Sethu Mannarkad of Full Moon Cinema.

Akhil Akkineni’s much hyped spy-thriller ‘Agent’ is set to have a pan-Indian release. Apart from Telugu, the film will be dubbed and released in Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi and Kannada languages. Shoot for the film is currently in the final stages. The makers have meanwhile announced that its teaser will be out on July 15.

‘Agent’ is an espionage thriller made on a big scale. Surender Reddy of ‘Race Gurram’ fame is directing the film and it is scripted by Vakkantham Vamsi. While Akhil is playing the lead role of a spy agent in, Malayalam superstar Mammootty reportedly essays a military officer’s role. The makers had earlier released a special poster featuring Mammootty. It had the veteran star in an army background with cap in his head and holding a gun. The poster introduced him as ‘The Devil: Ruthless Saviour’.

Mammootty’s last Telugu release was ‘Yatra’, a biographical film in which he played the role of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Rajasekhara Reddy.

Dhanush’s much-hyped Hollywood debut ‘The Gray Man’ is set to premiere on Netflix on July 22. The film directed by ‘Avengers’ fame Russo Brothers has Hollywood stars Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans as the leads. Dhanush is playing an important role in it. Last day, the makers released an action-packed glimpse featuring Dhanush, Ana De Armas and Ryan Gosling.

‘The Gray Man’ is an action thriller revolving around two killers – a freelance assassin Gentry (Ryan Gosling) and Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), a former associate of Gentry at the CIA and now on a worldwide hunt for him, and their duel. Dhanush plays Dhanush Avik San, “one of the top assassins of the world”.

Wagner Moura, Julia Butters, Rege Jean Page and Alfre Woodard and Jessica Henwick are also playing prominent roles in the film. ‘Avengers’ scenarists Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are also involved in this project, which is reportedly Netflix’s biggest ever till date.

Even after its OTT release, ‘Vikram’ is getting new admirers. ‘KGF’ director Prashanth Neel, who recently watched the film, took to his Twitter handle to heap praise and congratulate the team. He wrote that it was a feast to watch Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil together on screen. The director also mentioned about Suriya’s fiery cameo role, Anirudh’s stellar music, Anbariv’s stunt choreography. Neel also added that he has always been a big admirer of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s work.

‘Vikram’ started streaming on Disney + Hotstar from July 8. The film which got released on June 3, has ruled box office successfully for over a month. Ponniyin Selvan teaser promises a grand spectacle

Amidst of a lot of expectations, the teaser of Mani Ratnam’s ambitious project ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ got launched in a grand manner in Chennai. Since its a multilingual, the teaser was released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi languages. The 1.21-minute long teaser has glimpses of a true visual spectacle. Social medias are abuzz with talks about the teaser and its decoding.

‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is a two-part epic and the first part is set for theatre release on September 30. The film is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s historical Tamil novel, which tells the story of early days of Arulmozhi Varman. He later became the great Chola emperor, Raja Raja Chola I. Jayam Ravi, Trisha Vikram, Karthi and Aishwarya Rai play the main roles in the film.

The cast also includes Vikram Prabhu, Parthiban, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prakash Raj, Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Babu Antony, Riyaz Khan, Kishore, Jayaram, Rahman, Lal and Ashwin Kakumanu.

The film has music by AR Rahman and cinematography by Ravi Varman. It is produced by Mani Ratnam’s own banner Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.
