Powerstar trailer fetches 2 million views in 2 days

The trailer of Omar Lulu’s upcoming film ‘Powerstar’ with Babu Antony was released on the occasion of Eid. Within two days of its release, the trailer has got a whopping 2 million views in YouTube. Though the response has not been all that great, the makers must be glad that the trailer has reached out to so many people.

‘Powestar’ marks Babu Antony’s comeback to being a lead actor, and that too in a full-fledged action role. In the trailer, he is seen sporting a long haired look. Abu Salim and Niyaz also accompany him.

‘Power Star’ is scripted by the late Dennis Joseph. It is said to be a complete action-packed entertainer with the story centred around drug deals. Though Omar had initially announced Riyaz Khan, Baburaj, Hollywood actor Louis Mandylor, retired American kickboxer Robert Parham and Kannada star Shreyas Manju as part of the cast, it is not sure if they’re still part of the film.

‘Powerstar’ has Sinu Sidharath as the cinematographer. The film also marks Omar Lulu’s debut as a music director. He is composing the songs and background score for the film.

As reported earlier by us, Tamil filmmaker Atlee is making his Bollywood debut with ‘Jawan’ starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. The film’s recent announcement and the first look became quite a sensation in social media. Touted to be an action thriller, the film is backed by SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment.

Latest buzz is that Vijay is likely to play a cameo role in ‘Jawan’. It is well known that Vijay and director Atlee are very close friends after having worked together in three films — Theri, Mersal and Bigil. So the possibilities of Vijay making a guest appearance in ‘Jawan’ can’t be dismissed as such. Reports suggest that Vijay and Shah Rukh Khan’s portions will be shot in mid-September in Chennai. The ‘Kaththi’ actor had earlier made a similar cameo appearance in Akshay Kumar’s ‘Rowdy Rathore’, directed by Prabhu Deva.

‘Jawan’ already has Nayanthara, Sanya Malhotra and Priya Mani as part of the cast. There are also unconfirmed reports about Vijay Sethupathi also acting in the film. An official confirmation is still awaited. Anirudh Ravichander, who had earlier composed the background score for Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Jersey’, is making his full-fledged Bollywood debut with ‘Jawan’.

We had earlier reported about Suriya teaming up with director Bala for his next. The film, which was tentatively titled ‘Suriya 41’ so far, has now been officially named ‘Vanangaan’. A glimpse of Suriya’s look is also there in the poster. It is similar to his Rolex look in ‘Vikram’.

‘Vanangaan’, set in a coastal region, reportedly has Suriya playing a fisherman. Recently, there were rumours about the project getting shelved because of creative differences between Suriya and Bala. However, the actor came out dismissing such speculations.

‘Vanangaan’ marks the actor-director duo’s reunion after 18 long years. The two have previously worked together in ‘Nanda’ and ‘Pithamagan’. Their new film also stars Krithi Shetty, Malayalam actress Mamitha Baiju in important roles. Balsubramaniam is the DOP and music is by GV Prakash Kumar.

It also has a huge star cast comprising of actors from various languages. Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan is making his acting debut with this film. He essays the role of French Interpol officer named Aslan Yilmaz.

Malayankunju release date announced

Dismissing speculations about a direct OTT release, the makers of Fahadh Faasil’s new film ‘Malayankunju’ have announced the theatre release on July 22. It will be competing with ‘Mahaveeryar’ at the Kerala box office. The Nivin Pauly-Asif Ali starrer is set to hit screens one day earlier on July 21.

Fahadh’s last Malayalam film to be released in theatres was ‘Trance’ in February 20, 2020. His last few outings in Malayalam — ‘CU Soon’, ‘Joji’, ‘Malik’ and ‘Irul’ have all been OTT releases.

‘Malayankunju’ is directed by debutant Sajimon, who has assisted many senior filmmakers. Mahesh Narayanan, who had directed Fahadh in ‘Take Off’, ‘Malik’ and ‘CU Soon’, has scripted the film. He is also debuting as a cinematographer with this film.

‘Malayankunju’ is a landslide-based survival thriller in which Fahadh plays a grey-shaded role. Maestro AR Rahman is scoring music for the film. It is his third Malayalam film after ‘Yodha’, and the yet-to-be-released ‘Aadujeevitham’.

‘Oh Meri Laila’ is scripted by debutant Anuraj OB. Bablu Aju is the cinematographer and music is by Ankit Menon. Saji Joseph handles the edits. The makers are expected to announce the release date once the post-production works are done.

As reported earlier, Mammootty and B Unnikrishnan are reuniting 12 years after the release of their maiden collaboration, ‘Pramani’. Their new film got launched last day with a formal pooja ceremony. Full-fledged shoot is set to begin on July 15. The film is scripted by Udhayakrishna, who penned B Unnikrishnan’s last film ‘Aarattu’ as well.

As per reports, the film is a thriller based on a real incident. Mammootty will be seen playing a cop’s role. Reportedly, the makers have signed Amala Paul, Sneha and Aishwarya Lekshmi as the female leads. Interestingly, Sneha was also part of ‘Pramani’ as well.

Tamil actor Vinay Rai, who made a comeback by playing strong negative roles in ‘Thupparivalan’ ‘Doctor’ and ‘Etharkkum Thunindhavan’, has also been signed for a prominent role. Others in the cast include Shine Tom Chacko, Dileesh Pothan and Jinu Joseph. The trio last shared screen with Mammootty in ‘Bheeshma Parvam’.

B Unnikrishnan’s RD Illuminations is backing the film. More details regarding its crew members are awaited.

Mahaveeryar’s fascinating trailer continues to grab attention

The trailer of ‘Mahaveeryar’ was released recently. Starring Nivin Pauly and Asif Ali as the leads, the film promises to be a fascinating experience. From the trailer, it looks like a genre-bending attempt. There are talks about it being a fantasy film, while some believe it has a time travel concept in it. A confirmation is expected soon.

‘Mahaveeryar’ is directed by Abrid Shine. The film has its story by Sahitya Akademi Award winner M Mukundan and adapted screenplay by Abrid Shine. Chandru Selvaraj has handled the camera and music is composed by Ishan Chhabra. The makers of ‘Kudukku 2025’ have released the teaser online. Bilahari K Raj, who had debuted with ‘Allu Ramendran’, is helming this film. It stars Krishna Sankar and Durga Krishna as the leads. Swasika, Shine Tom Chacko, Raghunadh Paleri and Aju Varghese will be seen in prominent roles.

The film is billed a futuristic thriller, that is set in the post-pandemic world. As per the director Bilahari, the film starts off as a regular entertainer and develops into a mystery, action-thriller. He has also produced the film along with lead actor Krisha Sankar and Deepthi Ram. The teaser looked very interesting and promises a lot of thrills.

Debutant Abhimanue Viswanath is the cinematographer and Kiran Das is editing the film. Music is by Bhoomee and Mujeeb Majeed. Earlier, the makers had released two songs — ‘Maaran’ and ‘Theythaka’ — and both the tracks got great reception. Though it has been confirmed that the film will be a theatre release, the exact date is yet to be announced.

The Mohanlal-Priyadarshan segment in the upcoming Netflix anthology has begun. It is part of the 10-part film series, which are all based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s stories. Santosh Sivan, Shyamaprasad and Jayaraj are directing a segment each in it. Priyadarshan is helming two segments, one of which has Biju Menon in it. Its shoot has already been completed. The one with Mohanlal started rolling recently.

It is based on ‘Olavum Theeravum’, the 1970-classic directed by PN Menon. MT Vasudevan Nair had scripted the film based on his own story of the same title, which was published in 1957. Priyadarshan will be retelling the story with Mohanlal playing the lead role of Bapputty, essayed by Madhu in the orginal film. Hareesh Peradi and Mammukoya are also playing main roles in the upcoming film. Santosh Sivan is the cameraman and Sabu Cyril handles the production design.
