Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam second teaser out

A new teaser from Mammootty-Lijo Jose Pellissery combo’s upcoming film ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’ got released last night. The intriguing 1-minute long teaser is set in a wine shop where Mammootty is seen enacting a famous scene from Sivaji Ganesan’s 1973-released film ‘Gauravam’. Like the first teaser, one cannot draw any conclusion about the film’s plot. The previous teaser featured shots of a whole village including animals taking a nap in the afternoon.

‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’ has its story written by Lijo Jose Pellissery and screenplay by ‘Jallikattu’ fame S Hareesh. It is said to be a hybrid attempt with dialogues in Malayalam as well as Tamil. The supporting cast includes veteran actor Ashokan, Tamil actress Ramya Pandian, ‘Homely Meals’ fame Vipin Atley, Rajesh Sharma, ‘Poo’ Ram and Ramachandran Durairaj.

Theni Easwar is the DOP and edits are handled by Deepu Joseph. The film is produced by the Mammootty’s newly launched production house Mammootty Company.

Nani-Nazriya starrer Ante Sundaraniki gets an OTT release

The Telugu rom-com ‘Ante Sundaraniki’ starring Nani and Nazriya is all set for its OTT release. The film will have its digital premiere on Netflix on July 10. Vivek Athreya of ‘Mental Madhilo’ and ‘Brochevarevarura’ fame is directing the film, which is a light-hearted entertainer about how two people from different religious backgrounds fall in love and the problems they face. While Nani plays Hindu guy who hails from a highly orthodox family, Nazirya’s character is a Christian.

‘Ante Sundaraniki’ also stars Nadiya Moidu, ‘Ambili’ fame Tanvi Ram, and Alagam Perumal as part of the film’s cast. Naveen Yerneni and Ravi Shankar Y have jointly produced the film under the banner of Mythri Movie Makers.

Upon its theatre release on June 10, the film earned mixed response from the general audience. Though a section of the audience praised the film, some criticised, particularly its duration. It will be interesting to see how the response will be post its OTT release.

Arun Vijay is making his web series debut with Tamil Rockerz, based on the notorious piracy group that rocked Tamil cinema. The series is directed by Arivazhagan, who has previously made films like ‘Eeram’ and ‘Vallinam’. He has also worked with Arun Vijay in ‘Kuttram 23’ and the yet-to-be-released ‘Borrder’.

From the teaser, we can make out that Arun Vijay plays a cop who heads a team appointed to bust the Tamil Rockerz group. They have openly challenged the film industry bigwigs that they will release pirated versions of a big-ticket film on the release day itself.

The series also stars Vani Bhojan, Iswarya.Menon, Azhagam Perumal, Subbaraj and many others. It has music scored by Vikas Badisa, cinematography by Rajasekhar and editing by Sabu.Joseph. AVM Productions is backing the series, which is set to premiere on Sony LIV. An official announcement regarding the release date is still awaited.

First look of Pa Ranjith’s Natchathiram Nagargiradhu grabs attention

The first look poster of director Pa Ranjith’s upcoming release ‘Natchathiram Nagargiradhu’ has been grabbing attention ever since its release. The film stars ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’ fame Dushara, Kalaiyarasan and Kalidas Jayaram as the leads. Harikrishnan and ‘Dancing Rose’ Shabeer Kallarakkal will also be seen in prominent roles in the film.

As per reports, the film set in the backdrop of Tamil theater scene explores multiple facets of love, including straight and LGBTQ romances. Director Ranjith shared the poster by captioning it as ‘love is political’. The film has music scored by Tenma and cinematography by Kishor Kumar. It is jointly bankrolled by Neelam Productions and Yaazhi Films. The film targets a July release.

Pa Ranjith meanwhile is prepping up for his upcoming film with Vikram, which is set to begin production later this month. Set in the backdrop of Kolar Gold fields, Karnataka, the film revolves around miners who discover gold in the 19th century. The director’s own banner Neelam Productions and Studio Green are jointly backing the film. Ranjith is also in talks with Kamal Haasan for a Madurai-based film.

Prithviraj’s latest release ‘Kaduva’ has opened to largely positive response. The film comes as a refreshing change for the Malayali audience, who have been missing action-packed mass films for long. Actor Unni Mukundan echoed similar thoughts in his Facebook post, in which he showered praise on Prithviraj, director Shaji Kailas and the whole team of Kaduva.

Basil Joseph to star in Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran’s production, Paalthu Janwar

The trio of Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran are reuniting, this time for production. They are jointly backing a new film titled ‘Paalthu Janwar’. Basil Joseph is playing the lead role in it and debutant Sangeeth P Rajan is directing the film. The latter is a former associate of filmmakers Amal Neerad and Midhun Manuel Thomas.

‘Paalthu Janwar’ is scripted by novelist Vinoy Thomas and Aneesh Anjali. It has cinematography by Renadive, music by Justin Varghese and edits by Kiran Das. The makers have announced that the film will be out in theatres for this coming Onam.

From the first look, Basil Joseph seems to be playing the role of a veterinary doctor in the film. The actor-filmmaker took to his social media handle to share his excitement. His post reads,

The hugely awaited teaser of Mani Ratnam’s ambitious project ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ got launched in a grand manner in Chennai. Since its a multilingual, the teaser has been released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. Stars Amitabh Bachchan, Mohanlal, Mahesh Babu, Suriya and Rakshit Shetty released the teaser in their respective languages.

‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is a two-part epic and the first part is set for for release on September 30. The film based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s historical Tamil novel tells the story of early days of Arulmozhi Varman, who later became the great Chola emperor, Raja Raja Chola I. Jayam Ravi, Trisha Vikram, Karthi and Aishwarya Rai play the main roles in the film.

The cast also includes Vikram Prabhu, Parthiban, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prakash Raj, Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Babu Antony, Riyaz Khan, Kishore, Jayaram, Rahman, Lal and Ashwin Kakumanu. The film has music is AR Rahman and cinematography by Ravi Varman. It is produced by Mani Ratnam’s own banner Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.

Antony Varghese and Shane Nigam team for a big-budget action film

Antony Varghese and Shane Nigam are set to star in a big budget film produced by Sophia Paul of Weekend Blockbusters. The banner last produced Tovino’s superhero film ‘Minnal Murali’.

Debutant Nahas will be directing the upcoming film, which has been planned as an action-packed entertainer. AnbAriv, the stunt masters known for their work in the ‘KGF’ films, ‘Kaithi’ and ‘Vikram’, have been signed to choreograph the action sequences.

Apart from Antony Varghese and Shane Nigam, the film will also have another lead actor. Reportedly, the makers are in talks with actors like Sreenath Bhasi and Neeraj Madhav for this role. An official confirmation regarding the third actor is expected to be made shortly.

If things go as per plans, the makers are eyeing to begin the shoot in Chingam 1 (August 17). Prior to that, more details regarding the project are expected to be out.

The makers of Ponniyin Selvan have shared two new posters featuring actors Trisha and Jayam Ravi. While Trisha plays the role of princess Kundavai, Jayam Ravi essays the role of Arulmozhi Varman, the actual Ponniyin Selvan.

Sony Liv bags Sunny Wayne’s Appan

Sunny Wayne’s upcoming film ‘Appan’ has been picked up by Sony Liv. The streamer is expected to announce the release date soon. The film marks Sunny’s second time collaboration with his ‘French Viplavam’ director Maju KB. The makers had earlier released its trailer, which looked highly promising.

‘Appan’ has its story written by director Maju. He has penned the screenplay jointly with R Jayakumar. Alencier Ley plays the titular character — a bed-ridden aged man, whose death is eagerly awaited by the family. Pauly Valsan plays the role of his wife and Sunny is seen as their son. Ananya and Grace Antony also play prominent roles in the film.

Sunny Wayne himself is producing the film along with Josekutty Madathil and Ranjith Manambarakkat’s banner Tiny Hands Productions. The film has Pappu cranking the camera and Dawn Vincent has scored the music. Kiran Das is handling the edits.
