Kalyani Priyadarshan to be paired with Simbu

Kalyani Priyadarshan, who is currently a much wanted star in Telugu, is now making inroads in Tamil industry as well. After signing for Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘Vaan’ and Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Hero’, the pretty actress has now bagged her next. She has been paired with Simbu in the upcoming political flick ‘Maanaadu’, directed by Venkat Prabhu. Kalyani, who is thrilled to be part of the project, has written on her Twitter handle,

“Can’t wait to bring that amazing script to life.”

‘Maanaadu’ was first announced eight months back. Due to the delay in commencement of shoot, there were reports about the movie getting stalled. However, the makers have now informed that the movie is getting ready to go on floors shortly. Suresh Kamatchi is producing the movie.

Simbu is currently busy shooting for ‘Maha’, the landmark 50th movie of Hansika Motwani. He plays an extended cameo as a pilot in the film. Shoot is currently, progressing in Goa, after which he is expected to start works for ‘Maanaadu’.

BR Shetty confirms doing Mahabharatha, but with a new team!

UAE based Indian businessman BR Shetty was supposed to produce the movie adaptation of MT Vasudevan Nair’s ‘Randamoozham’, which was in turn a retelling of ‘Mahabharatha’. Mounted as an epic 1000 crore project, the movie was originally planned to be directed by Malayali filmmaker Shrikumar Menon with Mohanlal in the lead. But a fall out between MT and the director meant that the project had to be shelved. The writer has filed a case in the court demanding the return of his script.

However, BR Shetty has now confirmed that he will indeed be making ‘Mahabharatha’ but with a different team. Apparently, he has approached spiritual leader Sadhguru to suggest a suitable script for the movie. Shetty made it clear that he has moved out of Shrikumar Menon and MT, and doesn’t want to get involved in the legal battle. Shetty also added that he will be holding talks with the BJP and RSS to negate any further hurdles.

Shetty is quoted saying to Gulf News, “I want Sadhguru to suggest someone to write a new script for my film. I don’t want to be involved in the legal matters between Shrikumar Menon and MT Vasudevan Nair. I have distanced myself already. But for the new project I will get all the necessary permissions from the BJP, RSS. I don’t want any more problems now. The film will be shot in Abu Dhabi like we planned”.

When asked if Mohanlal would still be part of the film, Shetty said, “I don’t know yet. We have not selected any actors as of now. Right now, I am focussed on getting the story approved”.

Director Omar Lulu is known for introducing fresh talents through his movies. All this three films – ‘Happy Wedding’, ‘Chunkzz’ and ‘Oru Adaar Love’, had a young star cast. ‘Adaar Love’ had a bunch of debutant actors in the lead roles, most of whom were picked from dubsmash and other popular social media platforms. On similar lines, Omar is now launching Tik Tok fame Fukru through his new movie ‘Dhamaka’.

Fukru is a popular face in the Tik Tok arena. With several of his videos going viral, the youngster enjoys a solid fan following. Omar Lulu took to his social media handle to share a photo taken with Fukru and inform that the latter will be playing an important role in his new movie, ‘Dhamaka’

‘Dhamaka’ is actually the sequel to his 2017 hit film ‘Chunkzz’. All the major actors from the first part, including Balu Varghese, Honey Rose, Ganapathi, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Lal and Hareesh Kanaran part of the sequel as well. ‘Chunkzz’ was a youthful comedy flick that got heavily panned by the critics but still managed to emerge as a big hit at the box office. The makers will be hoping to repeat the success this time as well.

Suriya to step out of his comfort zone for his next with Siva

Suriya is currently busy with the promotions of his highly anticipated film ‘NGK’, which is slated to hit screens this Friday (May 31). The actor also has ‘Kaappaan’ gearing up for release in August. ‘Soorarai Pottru’ with Sudha Kongara is currently in the making. Apart from that, Suriya has also signed a film with director Siva, who is fresh from the blockbuster success of ‘Viswasam’.

In a recent interview to NIE, when asked about his expectations about the film, Suriya revealed that he is highly excited as the script demands him to step out of his usual comfort zone. He even cited the example of Amitabh Bachchan’s films that have good story, wholesome entertainment, and at the same time, ample scope for performance. Suirya firmly believes that his film with director Siva will be a similar one.

Suriya is currently shooting for ‘Soorarai Pottru’, which is inspired from the real life of Captain GR Gopinath. Malayali actress Aparna Balamurali plyas the female lead. It is a highly ambitious film that is backed by Academy award winner Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment and Suriya’s own 2D Entertainment.

It’s a clean U for Virus; All set to hit screens on June 7

Aashiq Abu directorial Virus is one of the most awaited Malayalam films this year. Based on last year’s deadly Nipah outbreak in Kerala, the film boasts of a stellar cast and crew. Last day, the movie’s censoring got completed and it was certified with a clean U. The movie now has a run time of around 150 minutes which is nearly 30 minutes short of what the makers had planned originally. With the censoring done, the movie is now confirmed to hit screens on June 7.

‘Virus is scripted by Muhsin Parari of ‘Sudani From Nigeria’ fame and Suhas-Sharfu, the writers of ‘Varathan’. The movie’s cast comprises of Revathy, Tovino Thomas, Asif Ali, Kunchacko Boban, Indrajith Sukumaran, Parvathy, Rima Kallingal, Poornima Indrajith, Remya Nambeesan, Madonna Sebastian, Soubin Shahir, Rahman, Dileesh Pothan, Savitri Sreedharan, Sarasa Balussery, Shebin Benson, Jinu Joseph, Basil Joseph, Indrans, Sharafudheen, Sreenath Bhasi, Joju George, Senthil Krishna and Sudeesh.

‘Virus’ also has a strong technical crew comprising of cinematographers Rajeev Ravi and Shyju Khalid, music director Sushin Shyam and editor Saiju Sreedharan. Aashiq Abu and Rima Kallingal are producing the movie under the banner of OPM

Sunny Wayne is all praise for Ishq team!

Shane Nigam starrer ‘Ishq’ continues to do well in the Kerala box office. The movie is also getting good response outside outside the state, especially among the passionate Tamil audience. Along with the performance of the lead actors, the progressive and relevant politics discussed in the movie is getting widely praised.

Actor Sunny Wayne recently got to watch the movie. He has written a note in his official Facebook page congratulating the whole team for delivering such a good film. His post reads,

‘Ishq’ is directed by debutant Anuraj Manohar and scripted by Ratheesh Ravi of ‘Pullikkaran Staraa’ fame. Shane Nigam and ‘Ezra’ fame play Ann Sheetal play the lead roles. Shine Tom Chacko, Jaffer Idukki and Leona Lishoy have essayed other prominent roles in the movie.

‘Ishq’ is a socially relevant film that throws light on the ugly face of moral policing in our society and the deep-rooted misogyny among seemingly progressive people. A special screening of the movie was held last day for MLAs. VT Balram, Kadannappalli Ramachandran and the whole team of ‘Ishq’ attended the screening. With its refreshingly unique ending, the movie has paved way for several quality discussions in social media platforms.

As informed earlier, the makers of Asif Ali starrer ‘OP 160/18 Kakshi : Amminippilla’ have released a new video song. Titled ‘Kallukudi Song,’ this is a fun track as one would expect it to be. Earlier, the makers had released two other songs, ‘Uyyaram Payyaram’ and ‘Thalasserykkare Kanda’; and both the tracks were well received.
The movie has songs composed by Arun Muraleedharan and Samuel Aby.

‘Kakshi Amminipilla’ is directed by debutant Dinjith Ayyathan and scripted by Sanilesh Shivan. The movie is basically a court-room drama centred around the case of a newly wed couple, Shajith Kumar Amminipilla and wife Kanthi Sivadasan. Asif Ali plays the lead role of advocate Pradeepan Manjodi, a political aspirant who takes up the case.

Riju Rajan is producing the movie under the banner of Zarah Films. It is scheduled to hit screens in June, though an official word regarding the exact date is yet to be made.

Thala Ajith’s ‘Viswasam’ is said to be one of the biggest blockbusters in Tamil cinema. The movie which was released in January during the Pongal holidays had a tremendous run at the box office after the common audience, especially the fanilies, lapped it up. The Siva directorial is a family drama starring Ajith, Nayanthara and Anikha in the lead roles.

Earlier in the day, superstar Rajinikanth invited Siva home after being impressed by ‘Viswasam’. He praised Siva for the overall quality of the film, particularly the father-daughter sentiment which is the core part of the movie. Ajith and Anikha as the long separated father and daughter shared great chemistry.

It must be remembered that ‘Viswasam’ clashed with Rajinikanth’s ‘Petta’ at the box office. Both the films released on the same day paving way for the biggest clash in recent Tamil cinema history. Despite that, it is extremely gracious of Rajinikanth to invite Siva and appreciate him. There also reports about the director pitching a story for a new collaboration, but nothing has been confirmed as yet.

Rajinikanth is currently on a schedule break from ‘Darbar’, directed by AR Murugadoss. The movie which has him playing a police officer after two decades is slated for release next January.

Vinayakan’s maiden film in a titular role, ‘Thottappan’, is getting ready for release. The actor, who otherwise is reluctant, has been actively promoting the movie with exclusive video interviews. In a recent interview with The Cue, while talking about ‘Thottappan’, his upcoming projects and other interests, Vinayakan revealed that he has composed a song in ‘Trance’.

The Anwar Rasheed directorial that has Fahadh Faasil in the lead has been in the making for a long while. Except for the cast and crew details, nothing much is known about the movie, which includes its genre. The secrecy maintained by and makers has successfully raised the audience’s curiosity. It will be interesting to see what kind of composition Vinayakan has come up with for ‘Trance’. He had earlier scored a song in Rajeev Ravi’s ‘Kammattipaadam’. The track ‘Puzhu Pulikal’ carried the soul of the movie and was well received.

Besides composing the song, Vinayakan is also playing a crucial role in ‘Trance’. Nazriya Nazim, Soubin Shahir, Chemban Vinod Jose, Dileesh Pothan, Arjun Ashokan and Sreenath Bhasi are also part of the cast. The movie is expected to hit screens some time by the end of this year.

Mammootty starrer ‘Madhura Raja’ was released during the Vishu season amidst huge expectations. Prior to its release, trade analysts and industry insiders had pinned high hopes on the movie and as expected, the movie has turned out to be a huge blockbuster. As the movie is fast approaching its 50th day of theatrical run, the makers have officially announced the much-awaited big news. ‘Madhura Raja’ has done a worldwide business of Rs 104 crore in 45 days.

This is quite a big achievement considering the fact that the movie had to face competition from several films, including the other 100 crore grosser ‘Lucifer’. Despite a slew of other releases, ‘Madhura Raja’ is still running in a few centres in Kerala. It is already the highest grosser in Mammootty’s three-decade long career.

‘Madhura Raja’ is the spiritual successor to the 2009 superhit film ‘Pokkiriraja’. It is directed by Vysakh and scripted by Udhayakrishna. Along with Mammootty, the movie also stars Anusree, Jai, Mahima Nambiar, Anna Reshma, Shamna Kasim and Jagapathi Babu in crucial roles. Nelson Ipe has produced the movie.
