Bollywood celebrity couple Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor have named their baby girl Raha. Alia took to her social media handle to reveal the name. However, the parents haven’t shown the baby’s face to the public yet. Announcing the name, Alia wrote in her social media handle,

The name Raha (chosen by her wise and wonderful Dadi) has so many beautiful meanings

Raha, in its purest form means divine path
in Swahili she is Joy,
In Sanskrit, Raha is a clan,
In Bangla – rest, comfort, relief,
in Arabic peace,
it also means happiness, freedom & bliss.

And true to her name, from the first moment we held her – we felt it ALL!

Thank you Raha, for bringing our family to life, it feels as though our lives have only just begun.

Alia and Ranbir got married in April this year and announced their pregnancy in June. The two fell in love while acting together in Ayan Mukherji’s fantasy action-adventure film ‘Brahmastra’. The couple welcomed their first child on November 6.

As reported earlier, Manju Warrier is playing the female lead in the upcoming Ajith Kumar starrer ‘Thunivu’. It is Manju’s second outing in Tamil after the national award winning film ‘Asuran’. Last day, Manju took to her social media handle to announce that she has sung a song in ‘Thunivu’. Sharing photos with music director Ghibran from the recording studio, Manju wrote,

Earlier during the shoot of ‘Thunivu’, Manju accompanied Ajith and his team for a bike trip in Ladakh. They wrapped up shoot only recently with the final schedule being held in Bangkok.

‘Thunivu’ directed by H Vinoth is touted as a heist thriller. It is Ajith’s third film with the director after ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ and ‘Valimai’. Boney Kapoor’s Bayview Projects LLP and Zee Studios are jointly backing the project. The film is all set for a Pongal 2023 release.

Don Palathara’s Family goes to International Film Festival Rotterdam

Acclaimed filmmaker Don Palathara’s new film ‘Family’ has been picked for screening at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. The film will have its world premiere at the prestigious festival. Earlier in 2021, Don Palathara’s ‘Everything Is Cinema’ was also screened at IFFR.

The director took social media to make the announcement about Family getting selected for IFFR. He has written,

I am grateful to everyone who has been a part of this journey, from my producer Newton Cinema to IFFR for kickstarting FAMILY’s journey as soon as the film is made. Thanks and congratulations to the entire cast and crew of the film.

Family, scripted by Don and his partner Sherine Catherine, is a social drama with a tinge of dark comedy. Set in Idukki, the film revolves around an affluent family and the power hierarchies within. Vinay Forrt, Mathew Thomas, Divyaprabha, Aarsha Chandini Baiju and Nilja K Baby play the major roles in the film.

Simbu’s Pathu Thala wrapped up

We had earlier told you about Simbu and Gautham Karthik starring in ‘Pathu Thala’. Directed by Obeli N Krishna of ‘Sillunu Oru Kaadhal’ and ‘Nedunchalai’ fame, the film’s shoot got completed last day.

‘Pathu Thala’ is the official remake of blockbuster Kannada film ‘Mufti’. While the original had Shivarajkumar in the lead role of a gangster, Simbu does the role in the Tamil version. Gautham Karthik reprises the character played by Sriimurali. Interestingly, the original’s director Narathan was supposed to direct ‘Pathu Thala’ also, but he opted out after a few days of shoot due to creative differences.

‘Pathu Thala’ has Gautham Vasudev Menon as the antagonist. Priya Bhavani Shankar and Malayalam actress Anu Sithara are the female leads. The film which has music by AR Rahman, is produced by KE Gnanavel Raja.

Alphonse Puthren’d Gold release date announced

Finally, it has been announced that Alphonse Puthren’s ‘Gold’ will hit screens on December 1. The film has huge expectations majorly because of the ‘Premam’ director comeback after a very long gap. It is also the the first outing of Prithviraj and Nayanthara together.

‘Gold’ also has a big supporting cast in it. Shammy Thilakan, Ajmal Ameer, Mallika Sukumaran, Jagadheesh, Sudheesh, Chemban Vinod Jose, Jaffer Idukki, Prem Kumar, Saiju Kurup, Krishna Shankar, Baburaj, Lalu Alex, Shanthi Krishna, Roshan Mathew, Vinay Forrt, Thesni Khan, Suresh Krishna, Deepti Sati, Althaf Salim, Shabareesh Varma, and Sabumon Abdusamad are some of them.

‘Gold’ was planned to hit screens for Onam, but it pulled out of the race as the team couldn’t wrap up the post-production works in time. However, the expectations among the audience are still intact. It is produced by Supriya Menon’s Prithviraj Productions and Listin Stephen of Magic Frames. Besides Malayalam, the film will be releasing in Tamil as well. Subbiah Shanmugham, who has distributed films like ‘Valimai’ and ‘Maanaadu’, is presenting the film in Tamil Nadu.

We had earlier reported about Tamil filmmaker Venkat Prabhu teaming up with Telugu star Naga Chaitanya for a Tamil-Telugu bilingual. The project has been titled ‘Custody’ and its first look is out. The poster features Naga Chaitanya is a cop who is held captive on gunpoint by other policemen. Krithi Shetty of ‘Shyam Singha Roy’ fame is the female lead.

‘Custody’ has a star-studded cast comprising Arvind Swami, Priyamani, Sarath Kumar, Sampath Raj, Vennela Kishore, Premi Viswanath and Premgi. The film has music scored by the maestro Ilaiyaraaja and his son Yuvan Shankar Raja. It is produced by Srinivasaa Silver Screen.

After ‘Custody’ Venkat Prabhu has plans to remake ‘Maanaadu’ as a Telugu-Hindi bilingual. Interestingly, the films have different heroes for each language but the same villain. Details regarding the casting are not yet out.

After the sensational success of ‘Suzhal’, Amazon Prime Video is all set to release their second Tamil web series ‘Vadhandhi’. The show, a murder mystery, is scheduled to premiere on December 2. Last day, the makers held its trailer launch in Chennai. From the trailer, it looks like a gripping murder mystery. SJ Suryah plays the lead role of a cop who investigates the murder of a young girl named Felonie.

Andrew Louis, who has earlier made films like ‘Leelai’ and ‘Kolaigaran’, has been credited as the creator, writer and director for the ‘Vadhandhi’. Pushkar-Gayatri, the creators of ‘Suzhal’, are also part of the team as creative producers.

The official plotline of ‘Vadhandhi’ reads,

“Vivek, a diligent cop, takes charge of the investigation of the murder of a beautiful young girl, Velonie. The rumours about her that spring up post her death threatens to irrevocably damage Velonie’s image, Vivek must wade through a web of half-truths and confusing leads to solve the case.”

Debutante Sanjana, Laila, Nasser, Vivek Prasanna, Hareesh Peradi, Smruthi Venkat, Kumaran Thangarajan and many others are part of the cast. Director of photography is Saravanan Ramasamy and music is by Simon K King.

‘Vadhandhi’ is slated to premiere on Dec 2, 2022. Apart from Tamil, it will also released in Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu languages.

Shoot for Jeo Baby’s upcoming film ‘Kaathal’ has been wrapped up. The team shot for 34 days in total. Its lead actors Mammootty and Jyotika had completed their portions few days back. Last day, the makers took to their official social media page to share photos from their last day’s shoot. They also wrote,

Running short of words to describe what went behind capturing the likes of Dearest #Mammukka, #Jyotika mam and the other talented artists..

‘Kaathal’ has Mammootty playing the role og a politician named Mathew Devassy. Jyotika is making her return to Malayalam after over a decade with this film. It is scripted by debutants Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skaria. Lalu Alex, Muthumani, Chinnu Chandni, Sudhi Kozhikode, Anagha Akku, and Adarsh Sukumaran are also part of the cast.

‘Kaathal’ has cinematographer Salu K Thomas, editor Francies Louis and music director Mathews Pulickal in its main technical team. It is backed by Mammootty’s own banner Mammootty Kampany.

HanuMan teaser promises spectacular action and jaw-dropping visuals

The makers of ‘HanuMan’, a pan Indian superhero film, released the teaser recently. It looks highly promising with spectacular action and jaw-dropping visuals. Thanks to mythological part, the film, which got originally made in Telugu, has already gathered a nationwide attention. The teaser has gone viral by clocking close to 10 million views on YouTube already.

‘HanuMan’ is written and directed by Prasanth Varma. He has earlier made films like ‘Awe’, ‘Zombie Reddy’ and ‘Kalki’. The upcoming biggie stars Teja Sajja as the lead. Amritha Aiyer , Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar, Vinay Rai , Raj Deepak Shetty, Vennela Kishore, Getup Srinu, and Satya are also part of the cast. Shivendra is the DOP and edits are handled by SB Raju Talari. Music is done jointly by Gowra Hari, Anudeep Dev, Krishna Saurabh

Radhika Apte part of Mohanlal-Lijo Jose Pellissery film?

The long speculated Mohanlal-Lijo Jose Pellissery film is finally materialising. If reports are to be believed, the makers are planning to begin shoot in January. Lijo and his team are currently working on the pre-production, which includes the casting. It is widely reported that Bollywood actress Radhika Apte is in talks for the female lead’s role. If she signs the project, it will be her second Malayalam film. The ‘Andhadhun’ actress made her M-Town debut in 2014-with the Fahadh Faasil starrer ‘Haram’.

The Mohanlal-Lijo Jose Pellissery project, which is yet to be titled, is backed by former Kerala State Minister Shibu Baby John’s newly launched production house John & Mary Creative. Century Films and Max Lab are also part of the production. There are reports about it being a wrestling-based film, but a confirmation is awaited.

Lijo is also waiting for the release of ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’ starring Mammootty. The film, which has also been selected to compete at the upcoming IFFK, is eyeing theatrical release in December.
