Liar’s Dice, the much appreciated and national award winning film, directed by Malayalam actress Geethu Mohandas was out of the Oscar race. Geethu Mohandas herself announced this news to the film lovers through her Facebook page. It was quite a disappointment for viewers as they had high hopes on it to do good in Oscars in the foreign film category. Everyone Expected it to go forward in Oscars once ‘Liar’s Dice’ was selected as India’s official entry to Oscar awards this year.

Geethu Mohandas said in her Facebook post that Liar’s Dice did not make it to the final list for Foreign Language selection.  She told that It was a spectacular learning experience for her and her crew and she want to thank the entire cast and crew for supporting her to make this great film. She said that she had to give special thanks to her producers, people like Alan McAlex, Ajay Rai, Vinod Sekhar and her husband and cinematographer of the film, Rajeev Ravi. She said that their journey has just began and they had miles to go ahead.

Liar’s dice story tells the life of a mother who is wandering through the streets of Delhi with her daughter, in search of her husband who was missing. Navasudeen Siddique and Geethanjali Dhappa played the lead roles in the film and the film had won national award for Best actress and Best cinematography. Cinematography of the film is done by none other than Rajeev Ravi , who is the husband of the director Geethu Mohandas.

Rajeev Ravi was recently in the news for his controversial remark about Mnai Ratnam and Sreenivasan (Malayalam actor and writer), in which he said that he hate Sreenivasan films as it does nothing good to the society and he also told that he dost not think script is an essential part of film making. He in fact wants to burn the scripts before the shooting of the film. Against his statement people like Vineeth Sreenivasan came out through his page and gave a sarcastic reply to him. His wife Geethu Mohandas came out for his support later telling that it was his personal opinion and everyone had the right to tell what he or she thinks about a particular matter.

Aamayum Muyalum Review

0

Aamayum Muyalum was the latest offering from the Master Director  Priyadarshan to the Mollywood audience in this Christmas season. The film is  written by Priyadarshan Himself and it is a Malayalam remake of His Hindi film named ‘Maalamal Weekly’. Priyadrashan posted in Facebook page yesterday that even though he is going through some painful days, he is  trying to make us laugh and for that he is presenting us with  ‘Aamayum Muyalum’. Yes, it was a painful time for him indeed as his divorce issue is in court now. But when we see Aamyum Muyalum, we also feel a little pain as Priyan seems to be a shadow of himself.

We know the caliber of Priyadarshan as a director. He is the director who has made most number of successful Comedy films in Indian cinema. He is also so versatile that the same Priyan who gave us Kilukkam and Thenmavin Kombathu also gave us Kaalapani and Kanjeevaram. He had a magic in him and he had a Midas touch indeed. But Aamyum Muyalum ended as an average affair to say the least.

The story happens in an imaginary village that reminds us of his blockbuster ‘Thenmavin Kombathu’. It’s a village where most of the people who are poor and also suffering from the cruel deeds of a lady landlord, played by Sukanya. Innocent is playing the character called Nallavan and Jayasurya plays as a character who works for Nallavan and he is in love with Nallavan’s daughter, character played by Piya Bajpai. Nedumudi Venu plays the character of a lottery agent. The story begins when one of the villager named Antony won the first prize in a lottery draw, of rupees 5 crore and that lottery happened to be sold by Nedumudi Venu’s character.  He at first tries to conceal the this news from everyone and makes a plan to get back that winning lottery and take all the money by himself. But all his plans were disturbed with an unexpected incident and from there the story kicks of in a racy mood with some hilarious subplots.

The film offers us something to laugh and the performances of artists were also very good. But the film is almost 164 minutes and the length really pulled the film down from what could be an above average entertainer to an average entertainer. We can’t say that Priyadarshan is back, but surely he showed the signs of getting back onto his track as some sequences here and there really reminded us of the old Priyan magic that we saw in films like Thenmavin Kombathu, Chandralekha etc. If one can watch this film without the hangover of previous Priyan classics, he/she can surely enjoy it. Jayasurya as an actor had nothing to do in it as the central characters were played by Innocent and Nedumudi Venu. M G Sreekumar’s music was not upto the mark and Divakar Mani’s visuals was beautiful.

Mohanlal, with his magical voice introduces the story and character in the beginning and that helped Priyan a lot to bring the audience into the story without much effort. The climax portion even though consist of usual Priyan style, it created a lot of laughter inside the cinema hall. Totally, Aamyum Muyalum is a one-time watchable family entertainer if you go without a prejudiced mindset.

Director : Priyadarshan
Release Date : 19/12/2014
Cast : Jayasurya, Pia Bajpai, Nedumudi Venu, Anoop Menon

PK Review

0

PK, another Magic from the magician Raj Kumar Hirani and the Perfectionist of Indian cinema Aamir Khan. Pk, is definitely one of the best film ever made in Bollywood and Aamir gave his best performance till date In PK and as PK. Raj Kumar Hirani amazed us with his previous films such as Munnabhai MBBS, Lagey raho Munnabhai and the epic ‘3 IDIOTS’. After a while he came back with yet another masterpiece named Pk.

Aamir in this film plays an Alien who reaches earth and lost contact with his space ship as a human being stole his locket size remote control.  He tries his best to get it back but luck was not in his favour. During the process he understand the human being, their behavior, beliefs and tries to adapt with it. While he tries it he came to meet  Bhairon Singh, character played by none other than Sanjay  Dutt and after a chain of events Bhairon Singh sends him to Delhi for searching his locket. Bhairon Singh was still unaware of the fact that Aamir’s character was an alien.

PK goes to Delhi and try to search his locket. But everywhere people told him that they are of no help and only God has the power to help as he is the creator of this world. So decided to find out God in order to get his locket back from the thief. But his search for God leads to a chain of events and confusions. People thinks that he is doing these kind of weird activities because he is drunk and calls him PK. There he meets a News channel anchor named Jaggu, played by Anushka Sharma and with the help of her PK start his mission to find out his remote and on the way teaches the people about what is God and what is religion, what is right and what is wrong etc.

PK is really a great film as it  raises one of the most important question on our modern society, that is about God and Godmen, About religion and false belief, about blind following and sensibility of people. Aamir just lived as Pk. He once again proved that he was indeed the perfectionist of not just Bollywood, but the Indian cinema as a whole. He is the most trusted actor in India now whom people can trust to give them great films every time they step into the cinema hall.

Raj Kumar Hirani is the real hero of this film, for his master craftmanship, fantastic editing, brilliant and tight Screenplay in association with Abhijat Joshi.  Hirani is now arguably the best director in India with his latest Offering PK. He always come up with something exciting, fresh and amazing elements through his films. He not only just entertains us but also enlightens with utmost simplicity and clarity of thoughts.C K Muraleedharan’s  DOP was just superb as it really made the spectator to enter into the world of PK. Music by Ajay Atul , Shantanu Moitra, Ankit Tiwari was perfect for the mood of the film and it also helped the film to move along quite smoothly. Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Sidharth Roy Kapoor also deserves mention as they can be proud of themselves for producing such a fantabulous film along with Raj Kumar Hirani. We recommend You all to watch pk, infact it was a must watch film. We can surely say that if you miss this film, you will miss one of the best ever experience a cinema can give you in your life time.

0

2014, Another year to remember for Prithviraj

2014 has become an year ti remember for our young super star Prithviraj Sukumaran. As an actor and an individual this year gave him a lot of memories to cherish. The most important thing happened in his life is that he became a father of a baby girl this year. It was indeed a wonderful memory for him to cherish all his life. The new born baby girl is named ‘Alamkritha’ and there was some controversy happened when he joined the name ‘Menon’ to his daughters name. Prithviraj now a proud father going great guns as an actor and star too. He had 6 releases this year.

London Bridge
It was directed by Anil C menon was prithvi’s first release this year. The film was almost fully shot in London. But the film was an utter failure at the box office and did nothing good to Prithvi raj as an actor and star. But it was dubbed in telugu as ‘Love in London’ and it was a success there.

7th day
Eventhough he began this year on a rather low note, his next release was a super hit. It was ‘7th day’ directed by debutant Shyamdhar and scripted by another debutant Akhilesh Paul. 7th day become a great success along with Ring master in the vishu season of 2014.

Munnariyippu
His next release was Munnariyippu directed by Venu and the laed role was done by none other than Mammootty. Prithvi just played a little cameo in that film. Eventhough the film has got great critical appreciatiom, it does not made much impact in the box office.

Sapthamshree Thaskaraha
Prithvi’s Onam release was Sapthamasree Thaskaraha directed by Anil Radhakrisnan Menon, and produced by prithvi himself . It had clearly become the Onam winner among all the Super star films pulling back Universal star Mohanlal’s Peruchazhi to the second place and Mega star Mammootty’s Rajadhi Raja to the third.

Tamar Padar
His next release was in October which was ‘Tamar Padar’ and it was the directorial debut of Script writer Dileesh nair. The film was failed miserably at the box office eventhough prithvi had high hopes on it.

Kaviya Thalaivan
The masterpiece from Prithvi just came at the end of this year. Yes, it was Kaviyathalaivan, a tamil film directed by national award winning director Vasantha balan has made such an impact that it gave prithvi lots of appreciation as an actor and film also doing great at the box office.

Thus he had able to end 2014 on a high note. He had some great releases lined up in 2015 as Picket 43 by Major Ravi and Double barrel by Lijo Jose Pellissery is on the post production stage. We wish him all the very best to continue his great run in the coming year too.

Dulquer Salmaan 2014 Overview

0

2014, A mixed bag for Dulquer Salmaan

Year 2014, has been a sort of mixed bag for young star Dulquer Salmaan in which had his own share of flops and hits. He also got some great opportunities this year. One such opportunity is that he got the chance to act as a main role of a renjith film and another one is that he is playing the lead role in the coming Mani Ratnam film ‘Okey Kanmani’ which is now on floors. Dulquar has got five releases this year.

Salala Mobiles
He had begun this year in the worst possible manner with a disaster. It is ‘Salala Mobiles’ directed by debutant Sharath M Haridasan, which was bombed at the box office.

Samsaram Aarogyathinu Haanikaram
The second one was ‘Samsaram arogyathinu Haanikaram’, helmed by Tamil director Balaji mohan and it ended as a disaster too in Kerala. It was actually a bilingual film and in Tamil it got released in the name of ‘Vaayai moodi pesavum’. There the film has got good critical appreciation and rather good response than that it received in Kerala.

Bangalore Days
His nest release was ‘Bangalore Days’ directed by Anjali Menon. The film also featured Fahadh Faasil and Nivin Pauly along with him and it become a blockbuster of the year. Apparently it’s the highest grosser of the year if we count Drishyam out of the equation as it is a 2013 year end release. Bangalore Days gave Dulquer a solace from continuous flops.

Vikramadithyan
Then comes his next hit which is Vikramadithyan, directed by none other than Lal Jose. Unni Mukundan also shared screen space along with Dulquer in this film. Even though the film has got mixed opinion, it had done exceedingly well at box office.

Njan
This one was the best film Dulquer had done in his career. It was the Renjith film ‘Njan’, in which he played the character of K T N Kottoor. His performance in the film is well appreciated by the critics. The film was not a financial success and it removed from theaters very soon. But the film had given him an opportunity show his caliber as an actor who can do challenging roles.

He had some Good, hopeful films to get released in 2015. One is the directorial debut film of veteran director Kamal’s son Jenuse Mohammad’s ‘100 Days Of Love’ and master craftsman Mani Ratnam’s  ‘Okey Kanmani’. We wish Dulquer best of luck for all his coming projects in 2015.

Rajinikanth phenomenon on the decline..?

0

It seems Super star of Super stars Rajinikanth is loosing his grip over the Box office. His latest release Lingaa opens to completely negative responses and in Box office too it failing to create the rajni magic which was his trademark long ago. Sometimes back, just the presence of Rajinikanth can make a film super success and that is why had been called the biggest super star India has ever seen. But now it seems that it is on the decline.

The phenomenon called the Rajinikanth Mania seems to have on the way to its End at the moment. In Kerala alone ‘Lingaa’ released above two hundred theaters and they made it possible by removing many Malayalam films which were running decently. But in many places the shows of Lingaa were cancelled because of the scarcity of audiences. And the people who watched the film said that it was one of the worst films Rajinikanth has ever done and the heroism of Rajiani was unbearable to say the least.

Reports saying that even his die hard fans were stood up from the seat and booed all the way while watching the climax portion. It was really surprise to hear it as it was Rajni’s heroism is the one which made him the biggest super star and helped him to get astonishing number of fans all over the world. His last release Kochadiyaan was also a disaster and took quite a time to settle the issue with its distributors.

More than that there is great protest going on Kerala , because of the removal of many good and decently running Malayalam films for the release of a Tamil film and in social medias, people were strongly posting and discussing about this issue of wide release of Tamil films which directly affects the Malayalam industry in the worst possible manner.  There are many Malayalam films which are still not released due to the unavailability of theaters. We had seen many examples in the recent past that Tamil films which widely released in Kerala removing Malayalam films are failing at the box office miserably. In Tamilnaadu and Andra Pradesh also Lingaa got poor response and removed from many centers within a week.

Cousins Review

0

Cousins triggered the Celebration this season. At last cousins landed here after the audience eagerly waited for it for a while. ‘Cousins’ was surely the most anticipated movie of the year right from the start of its shooting. The main reason behind that is the star studded cast list of the film which includes evergreen youth hero Kunchacko Boban, Young versatile actor Indrajith Sukumaaran, and comedy king Suraj Venjarammood. But it is not ending here. It also includes sweet heart of youngsters, Vedhika, dashing Nisha Agarwal, beautiful Miya and actors such as Kalabhavan Shajon and Pradeep Rawat. Apart from all these, south Indian actress Kamalini Mukharjee also part of this film through an item number.

This big budget visual spectacle is directed by none other than the Hit maker Vysakh ans scripted by Sethu. And about the film in one sentence, A great festival celebration which is in top gear from the very beginning and will worth each penny of yours in this festival season . And the young film maker is back with a bang after the debacle of Vishudhan and Vysakh had astonished all of us by creating an astonishing atmosphere to tell the story and the way he picturised the story was quiet brilliant. And the visual magic he created through the song sequences was unbelievable and Mollywood have never witnessed such a rich and colourful atmosphere in any of its film.

The story begins when the cousins starts a journey to find a key to the lost memories of their brother Sam. And on the way they reach a carnival celebration at a palace at Chandragiri and there they encounter some people who had connection with Sam’s lost memories. From there they really begin to find out some mysteries that happened in Sam’s life and love. And about the performances, It was the cousins show all the way. Each cousins compete with each other to make their character perfect. Chackochan was at his usual best as Sam who lost his memory and Indrajith as Joji was terrific in his screen presence and dialogue delivery.  Suraj as pauly made the audience laugh their heart out with their funny expressions and crisp one liners. The actresses were gorgeous and all of them done a neat job. Supporting actors also did their part to perfection and they altogether lift the film to another level.

Music by M. Jayachandran was really good and made people dance to his tunes. But its placement was a bit edgy at times. Gopi sundar’s background scoring was average. Joseph Nellikkal’s art direction was just fantabulous. Shaji’s cinematography was another specialty of the film. He really captured the beauty Of banglore palace, Athirappilly etc and his visuals really took the audience into the world of ‘Cousins’. Sethu’s script is bit loose at times and sometimes its very predictable. This big budget fun ride is financed By Vysakh Rajan. And on the whole we can say that ‘Cousins’ is a decent Paisa Vasool, Colourful entertainer which will make you celebrate each moment inside the theater.
