Prithviraj’s Vilayath Buddha set to begin in October

As reported earlier, Prithviraj Sukumaran is set to star in the directorial debut of his former associate Jayan Nambiar. Titled ‘Vilayath Buddha’, the film is based on GR Indugopan’s novel of the same name. The film was supposed to be directed by Sachy, who unfortunately passed away last year. It was only then that Jayan Nambiar, who was also an associate to Sachy, took up the project.

Urvasi Theatres is backing ‘Vilayath Buddha’, which is set to go on floors in October. The makers have finalised Marayoor and Idukki as the main locations. The story of ‘Vilayath Buddha’ revolves around Bhaskaran master, who grows a sandalwood tree in his yard for a personal reason, and his student Double Mohanan, a smuggler, who challenges his teacher that he will cut down the tree.

Prithviraj will be seen playing Double Mohanan’s role but the makers are yet to give confirm will be essaying Bhaskaran Master’s part. Indugopan and Rajesh Pinnadan are adapting the screenplay.

Confirmed: Jeo Baby’s next is with Mammootty

The Great Indian Kitchen director Jeo Baby has confirmed that his next film will be with Mammootty. In a recent interview, the director said that two of his friends are scripting the film. He also added that Mammootty’s face was the first thing that came to his mind after reading the script. The team is now doing some minor corrections on the script and is expected to begin other words shortly.

Jeo Baby is currently awaiting the release of his sophomore feature ‘Sree Dhanya Catering Service’, which is set to hit screens tomorrow (August 26). The director along with several newcomers are acting in the film, which revolves around cookery and male caterers.

Meanwhile, Mammootty is shooting for ‘Christopher’ directed by B Unnikrishnan. Udayakrishna is scripting the film, which is touted to be a real-life based cop thriller in which Mammootty plays a cop. The megastar also has ‘Rorschach’ and Lijo Jose Pellisserry’s ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’ lined up for release.

Attention Please trailer heightens expectations

‘Attention Please’, an upcoming Malayalam film directed by Jithin Issac Thomas is gearing up to hit screens tomorrow. Tamil filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj’s production banner Stone Bench Films and Originals is debuting in Malayalam by presenting this film. Its trailer got released recently and it looked highly promising.

It tells the story of an aspiring script writer who narrates his plots over booze to his four flatmates. Vishnu Govind plays the narrator. Anand Manmadhan, and Athira Kallingal, Sreejith B, Jobin Paul and Jicky Paul essay the other main roles. The film is touted to be a relevant thriller that addresses caste-based discrimination.

‘Attention Please’, produced by Kaarthekeyen Santhanam and Nithyan Martin, is all set to hit screens this Friday (August 26). It is also likely to have its digital release on Netflix later. The film was earlier selected for official screening at the 25th International Film Festival of Kerala and 18th Chennai International Film Festival.

Tamil filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj’s production banner Stone Bench Films and Originals got launched in Malayalam recently. Karthik’s close friend, filmmaker Alphonse Puthren was the chief guest at the launch event held in Kochi. The banner’s maiden Malayalam film is ‘Attention Please’, written and directed by Jithin Issace Thomas. It was earlier selected for official screening at the 25th International Film Festival of Kerala and 18th Chennai International Film Festival.

As we already know, Tamil filmmaker Atlee is making his Bollywood debut with ‘Jawan’ starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. Shoot for the film is current progressing in Chennai. Actor Vijay was recently spotted with Shah Rukh in the film’s sets. This has lead to speculations that Vijay will be making a cameo appearance in ‘Jawan’.

It is well known that Vijay and director Atlee are very close friends after having worked together in three films — ‘Theri’, ‘Mersal’ and ‘Bigil’. So the possibilities of Vijay acting in ‘Jawan’ can’t be dismissed as such. Vijay had earlier made a similar cameo appearance in Akshay Kumar’s ‘Rowdy Rathore’, directed by Prabhu Deva.

‘Jawan’, touted to be an action thriller, has Vijay Sethupathi in the villain role. Deepika Padukone is also reportedly playing a cameo role in the film. Nayanthara, Sanya Malhotra and Priya Mani are confirmed to be part of the cast.

Atlee’s regular collaborator GK Vishnu is cranking the camera for this film as well. Anirudh Ravichander, who had earlier composed the background score for Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Jersey’, is making his full-fledged Bollywood debut with ‘Jawan’. SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment is backing the film, which is slated for release on June 2, 2023.

We had earlier reported about Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham playing the leads in the upcoming action-thriller ‘Pathaan’. The makers have shared a motion poster featuring John Abraham. Shah Rukh Khan described the character as, ‘He’s tough and plays it rough’.

‘Pathaan’ is directed by Siddharth Anand, who has previously made action films like ‘War’ and ‘Bang Bang’. The big-scale actioner was shot in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Spain, and other foreign countries. Shah Rukh’s character in the film is said to be a spy. It is reported that the film will also have cameos from Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan as part of expanding YRF’s spy universe. Salman Khan will be appearing as Tiger while Hrithik will be reprising his character Kabir from ‘War’.

‘Pathaan’ is scheduled to hit screens on January 25, 2023. Besides Hindi, the film will also be releasing in Tamil and Telugu.

Anu Sithara joins Simbu’s Pathu Thala

Shoot for Simbu’s ‘Pathu Thala’ resumed recently. The film, which is the official remake of blockbuster Kannada film ‘Mufti’, also stars Gautham Karthik in the lead. Gautham Vasudev Menon is the antagonist and Priya Bhavani Shankar is essaying another important role. Latest to join the cast is Malayalam actress Anu Sithara. A video featuring the actress along with Simbu is currently doing the rounds in social media. There are reports about Anu Sithara playing Simbu’s sister in the film, but the makers are yet to confirm it.

‘Pathu Thala’ has been in the making for sometime now. The project was initially supposed to be directed by Narthan, who helmed the orginal as well. However, it got shelved at the initial stages itself after a tussle between the director and the film’s producer KR Gnanavel Raja. Later it got revived with Obeli N Krishna of ‘Sillunu Oru Kaadhal’ and ‘Nedunchalai’ fame as the director.

‘Pathu Thala’, which has music by AR Rahman, is set to hit screens on December 14, 2022.

Shoot begins for Rajinikanth’s Jailer; First look out

Shoot for Rajinikanth’s new film ‘Jailer’ with director Nelson has begun. The film produced by Sun Pictures is touted to be a mass entertainer set in the backdrop of a jail. Rajinikanth plays the role of a jailer in the film. Though the makers are yet to announce any cast details, it is learnt that Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar has been signed to play a prominent role in the film. It is said that he essays the role of a gangster in it.

Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi and Malayalam actor Vinayakan are some of the others reported to be in the cast. ‘Jailer’ has Nelson’s frequent collaborator Anirudh Ravichander as the music director. Vijay Kartik Kannan is the cinematographer and edits will be done by Nirmal.

The director’s last film ‘Beast’ was a huge failure. Similarly, Rajinikanth’s ‘Annaatthe’ also failed to do well at the box office. So both the director and the actor will be hoping to make a strong comeback with ‘Jailer’.

Pathonpatham Noottandu trailer is grand and super-promising

Director Vinayan’s ambitious period film ‘Pathonpatham Noottandu’ is set for a grand Onam release on September 8. Ahead of the release, the makers have shared the trailer online. It looks grand and spectacular with a lot of action and drama. The film tells the story of Arattupuzha Velayudha Panicker, an Ezhava chieftain, who was the first martyr of the Kerala Renaissance movement. Siju Wilson plays the lead role.

‘Pathonpatham Noottandu’ has a huge ensemble of supporting actors. Chemban Vinod essays the role of Kayamkulam Kochunni. Kayadu Lohar is essaying another prominent role. Anoop Menon, Deepti Sati, Sudheer Karamana, Suresh Krishna, Sudev Nair, Jaffer Idukki, Senthil Krishna, Bibin George, Biju Pappan, Indrans, Poonam Bajwa and many others are part of the film.

Gokulam Gopalan is producing the big-budget film, that has songs composed by M Jayachandran and cinematography by Shaji Kumar. Tamil composer Santhosh Narayanan is handling the background score. National award winner Vivek Harshan is editing the film.

Shoot for Indian 2 resumes today

The much hyped Shankar-Kamal Haasan film ‘Indian 2’ has resumed filming today. The project has been revived after almost two years of being shelved. Apparently, the massive success of Kamal’s ‘Vikram’ has inspired the makers of ‘Indian 2’ to immediately resume the project.

‘Indian 2’, the sequel to the 1996-classic hit, will see Kamal Haasan returning as the freedom-turned-vigilante Senapathi. Kajal Agarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Bobby Simha, Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Samuthirakani, Guru Somasundaram, Gulshan Grover, Manobala, Akhilendra Mishra, and Kalyani are part of the cast.

‘Indian 2’ has its script by Shankar and dialogues by Jayamohan, Kabilan Vairamuthu and Lakshmi Saravana Kumar. The film has music scored by Anirudh, cinematography by Ravi Varman. Action choreography will be done by Ramazan Bulut, PeterHein and Anl Arasu. Veteran Sreekar Prasad will take care of the edits.

The film is produced by Lyca Productions in association with Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies.
