Basil Joseph’s Palthu Janwar trailer is highly promising

The trailer of ‘Palthu Janwar’ starring Basil Joseph as the lead has been released. The film is directed by debutant Sangeeth P Rajan, a former associate of filmmakers Amal Neerad and Midhun Manuel Thomas. Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran are jointly producing it.

From the trailer, it looks like a rural-based gripping drama in which Basil plays the role of a livestock inspector. The film seems to be centred around the events that occur in a rural area after the arrival of Basil’s character Prasoon.

The film also stars Shammy Thilakan, Indrans, Johny Antony, Dileesh Pothan, Sibi Thomas, Unnimaya Prasad and many others. It is scripted by novelist Vinoy Thomas and Aneesh Anjali. The film has cinematography by Renadive, music scored by Justin Varghese and edits by Kiran Das.

‘Palthu Jawar’ recently got censored with a clean U certificate and is slated to hit screens on September 2.

Chathuram gets a release date

Sidharth Bharathan’s new film ‘Chathuram’ has been confirmed to hit screens on September 16. The film stars Swasika Vijay, Roshan Mathew, Santhy Balachandran, Leona Lishoy and Alenicer Ley Lopez as the leads.

‘Chathuram’ has already grabbed attention with its intriguing posters and teaser, which featured some steamy love making portions between Swasika and Roshan. The film scripted by Sidharth Bharathan along with Vinoy Thomas is touted to be an erotic thriller.

Pradeesh Verma is the DOP and music is composed by Prashant Pillai. Deepu Joseph is the editor. It is produced by Vinitha Ajit, George Sandiago, Jamneesh Thayyil and Sidharth Bharathan under the banners of Greenwich entertainments and Yellove Bird productions.

Sidharth Bharathan is also waiting for the release of ‘Djinn’. It has Soubin Shahir, Santhy Balachandran, Leona Lishoy, Shine Tom Chacko and Sharafudheen in major roles. Though shoot was completed sometime back, it got delayed due to the pandemic.

Arya’s sci-fi thriller Captain trailer is intriguing

We had earlier reported about Arya joining hands with his ‘Teddy’ director Shakti Soundar Rajan for a film titled ‘Captain’. The film has Arya playing an army officer. It is an action-packed sci-fi flick on the lines of ‘Predator’. The 2.5-minute-long trailer shows Arya as army officer Captain Vetriselvan. It then introduces a remote area, Sector 42 where no known biological life forms could be detected. This where the soldiers confront an extraterrestrial creature. How they tackle it seems to be the core plot.

‘Captain’ has Malayali actress Aishwarya Lekshmi as the female lead. The film also has veteran actress Simran in an important role. Others in the cast include Thyagarajan, Harish Uthaman, Kavya Shetty and Gokul Anand. D Imman scores music for this movie, which has cinematography by Yuva.

Produced by Arya’s The Show People along with Think Studios, the film is set to hit screens on September 8.

Alphonse Puthren’s Gold to be released in Malayalam and Tamil

Alphonse Puthren’s ‘Gold’ is gearing up for release amidst high expectations. The film starring Prithviraj and Nayanthara as the leads is confirmed to hit screens for Onam, though an exact date has not been said. Interestingly, ‘Gold’ will have a Tamil version as well. Subbiah Shanmugham, who has distributed films like ‘Valimai’ and ‘Maanaadu’, is presenting Gold in Tamil Nadu. His SSI Production will be releasing the film in Tamil and Malayalam.

‘Gold’ has the presence of a huge supporting cast. Shammy Thilakan, Ajmal Ameer, Mallika Sukumaran, Jagadheesh, Sudheesh,
Chemban Vinod Jose, Jaffer Idukki, Prem Kumar, Saiju Kurup, Krishna Shankar, Abu Salim, Baburaj, Lalu Alex, Shanthi Krishna, Roshan Mathew, Vinay Forrt, Thesni Khan, Suresh Krishna, Deepti Sati, Althaf Salim, Shabareesh Varma, and Sabumon are some of them. Many other popular actors will be seen in guest roles in the film.

Apart from scripting and directing, Alphonse Puthren is also handling the film’s edits, stunts, Visual FX, animation, and colour grading. Cinematography is by Anend C Chandran and Viswajith Odukkathil. Alphonse’s regular collaborator Rajesh Murugesan is scoring music for the film.

‘Gold’ is produced by Supriya Menon’s Prithviraj Productions and Listin Stephen of Magic Frames.

Neeraj Madhav, Aparna Balamurali starrer Sundari Gardens to release on SonyLIV; Trailer out

We had earlier reported about Neeraj Madhav and Aparna Balamurali teaming up for a rom-com titled ‘Sundari Gardens’. National-award winning director Salim Ahamed, known for his films like ‘Adaminte Makan Abu’ and ‘Pathemari’, is producing the film. It is written and directed by Charlie Davis.

‘Sundari Gardens’ is set to have a direct release on SonyLIV on September 2. Last day, the streamer announced the same along with releasing the trailer. It looks like a feel-good romantic film with equal prominence to both the leads.

Music is by Alphons Joseph and cinematography is handled by Swaroop Philip. Editor Sajit Unnikrishnan, art director Ashik S, lyricist Joe Paul, and makeup artist RG Wayanadan are the others in the team.

Neeraj Madhav meanwhile is making his Tamil debut with Gautham Menon’s ‘Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu’ starring Simbu in the lead role. Aparna Balamurali, who won the National award for her performance in ‘Soorarai Pottru’, also has some interesting projects lined up in Tamil and Malayalam. She is playing one of the leads in the Shaji Kailas film ‘Kaapa’, also starring Prithviraj, Asif Ali and Ann Ben.

Release date of Dulquer Salmaan’s Chup announced

Dulquer Salmaan’s upcoming Hindi film ‘Chup: The Revenge of an Artist’ with director R Balki is gearing up for release. The makers have announced that the film will hit screens on September 23. Prior to that, they will be releasing the much-awaited trailer.

Touted to as a psychological thriller, the film stars Pooja Bhatt, ‘Scam 1992’ fame Shreya Dhanwanthary and Sunny Deol as the leads. Balki has scripted the film along with Rishi Virmani and Raja Sen. The director is known for helming National award winning films like ‘Paa’ and ‘Padman’. This is the first time he is attempting a psychological thriller. So there are a lot of expectations on it.

Vishal Sinha is the cinematographer now. Amit Trivedi is composing the songs and Aman Pant handles the score. The film is being co-produced by Gauri Shinde, R Balki and Rakesh Jhunjhunwala.

Makers of Rajinikanth’s Jailer announce cast

Superstar Rajinikanth is currently shooting for his new film ‘Jailer’ with director Nelson. Last day, the makers officially announced the remaining cast members. Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan, Vasanth Ravi (Taramani, Rocky) and Yogi Babu have joined the cast.

The Ramya Krishnan-Rajinikanth combo is best known for their roles in the all-time blockbuster, ‘Padayappa’. It will be interesting to see them together after all these years. Yogi Babu has also acted with Rajinikanth in ‘Darbar’. Vinayakan, who has acted in Tamil films like ‘Thimiru’, ‘Silambattam’ and ‘Maryan’, is making his comeback to the industry after a long gap. The actor has reportedly started shooting for his portions with Rajinikanth.

‘Jailer’ is touted to be a mass entertainer set in which Rajinikanth plays the titular role. Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar has reportedly been signed to play a prominent role as gangster but the makers have not yet confirmed it.
The film has Nelson’s frequent collaborator Anirudh Ravichander as the music director. It is produced by Sun Pictures.

It has beem censored with a clean U certificate and is now confirmed to hit screens on September 2. Recently, the makers had released a couple of songs composed by Justin. Both the tracks — the promo song and ‘Ambili Raavu’ have got good response in social media.

Kunchacko Boban and Arvind Swami’s upcoming Tamil-Malayalam bilingual film is all set to hit screens on September 2. Titled ‘Ottu’ in Malayalam and ‘Rendagam’ in Tamil, the film is helmed by Malayali filmmaker Fellini TP of ‘Theevandi’ fame. It is produced by Arya and Shaji Nadesan under the banner of August Cinema.

Scripted by S Sanjeev, ‘Ottu’ has been made a thriller. Recently, the makers released its trailer online and it looked promising. Arvind Swami as David seems to be playing a powerful gangster who suffers memory loss. Kunchacko Boban essays a character named Kichu, who befriends David to gather some crucial info. Telugu actress Eesha Rebba, noted for her roles in films like ‘Awe’ and ‘Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava’, is the female lead. Aadukalam Naren and Jackie Shroff also essay prominent roles.

On the technical front, the film has Gautham Sankar as the cinematographer and Appi N Bhattathiri as the editor.
