Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru censored with U certificate

Suriya starrer ‘Soorarai Pottru’ has been censored with a clean U certificate. The makers have just shared the news through social medias. However, there is still no news regarding the release date. The film was supposed up to hit screens but it had to be pushed due to the lockdown. Since it is big scale film, the makers have repeatedly made it clear that it will first release in theatres.

‘Soorarai Pottru’ is directed by Sudha Kongara of ‘Irudhi Suttru’ fame. The film is loosely based on the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan. Suriya plays a character named Nedumaaran Rajangam Maara, a common man hailing from Madurai who dreams of owning an aircraft business.

Malayali actress Aparna Balamurali is paired with him. The cast also includes Paresh Rawal, Urvashi, Karunas, Vivek Prasanna, Kaali Venkatb and Mohan Babu in important roles. GV Prakash is handling the music department. Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment is producing the film jointly with Suriya’s own production house, 2D Entertainment.

Thalaivi digital rights bagged for Rs 55 crores!!

‘Thalaivi’, the biopic of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, that has Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut playing the lead was originally planned for release in July. But due to the delay in shoot and the Covid-19 situation, release has been postponed. AL Vijay is directing the film, which is being made as a bilingual in Tamil and Hindi.

Recently in an interview, Kangana confirmed that the film will be first releasing in theatres. It’s digital rights has already been sold for a whopping amount of Rs 55 crore. Netflix and Amazon Prime, the two OTT market leaders in India have acquired the rights Hindi version will be released in Netflix and Tamil version will be out on Amazon Prime.

Kangana Ranaut plays Jayalalithaa’s part in the film. The actress had taken lot of efforts to learn Tamil language and basics in classical dancing. She also put on weight for playing the character. Arvind Swamy will be seen essaying the role of MGR in the film. Madhubala and Samuthirakani are essaying other major roles.

‘Thalaivi’ is scripted jointly by ‘Baahubali’ writer KV Vijayendra Prasad and Rajat Arora. The film has Vishal Vittal cranking the camera and music composed by GV Prakash. It is jointly produced by Vishnu Induri and Shaailesh R Singh.

Chiyaan 60: Anirudh Ravichander to compose music for Vikram-Dhruv film?

For the last few days, Kollywood medias have been reporting about Vikram teaming up with the highly talented director Karthik Subbaraj. As per these reports, this will be Vikram’s 60th film and it will be produced by Lalith Kumar of 7 Screen Studio. The star’s son Dhruv is also said to be part of the film. Latest reports suggest that the makers are in talks with Anirudh Ravichander to handle the music department.

Anirudh and Karthik Subbaraj had earlier worked together in superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Petta’. Anirudh’s chartbuster music was one of the biggest reasons for the film’s success. So Karthik might try to retain him for his speculated project with Vikram and Dhruv.

An official confirmation has not yet been made by any of the parties involved but it will be huge if Karthik manages to bring such a team together. The father-son duo acting together itself makes it a huge project to watch out for. Let’s hope the news turns out to be true and we get to see the two stars share screen space.

Mysskin plans to make an action film with Simbu

In a recent interview, Tamil filmmaker Mysskin confirmed that he would be teaming up with Simbu soon. The two have been in talks for quite sometime and things have finally fallen in place. Apparently, the director is planning to make an action film with Simbu. Shoot will be commenting only next year as both the actor and director have other commitments lined up.

After the lockdown ends and industry starts functioning, Mysskin will starts works on a cop film with Arun Vijay. As opposed to reports that it is a sequel to the director’s own ‘Anjathe’, it will be a fresh script with an interesting premise. Official announcement will be made soon.

After the cop film with Arun Vijay, Mysskin will be doing a horror flick titled ‘Kaavu’. The director had earlier made a horror film named ‘Pisaasu’, which was anything unlike what was previously attempted in the genre in Indian cinema. ‘Kaavu’ is also expected to be a unique attempt from the director.

Harisree Ashokan starrer Haasyam selected for the 23rd edition of Shanghai International Film Festival

Multiple-award Jayaraj’s latest film movie ‘Haasyam’ has been selected for the 23rd edition of Shanghai International Film Festival. Veteran actor Harisree Ashokan plays the lead role in the film. It will be screened in the Panorma section of the festival, scheduled to be held from July 18 to 27. The film festival will be held in strict adherence to the guidelines for public gatherings during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is learnt that there won’t be any foreign delegates at this year’s festival because of the restriction in international air traffic.

‘Haasyam’ is the eighth film in director Jayaraj’s Navarasa series. ‘Shantham’, ‘Karunam’, ‘Bhibatsa’, ‘Adbutham’ (unreleased), ‘Veeram’, ‘Bhayanakam’ and ‘Roudram’ are his other films in the series. Among them, the last two ones — ‘Bhayanakam’ and ‘Roudram’ had won widespread acclaim. ‘Bhanayakam’ won Jayaraj awards at the National level for Best Direction and Best Adapted Screenplay.

‘Hasyam’ scripted by Jayaraj himself is a dark comedy. The film has Harisree Ashokan playing a character named Japan, who performs odd jobs including arranging cadavers and supplying organs for medical students. Sabitha Jayaraj, Shiny Sarah, KPAC Leela, Ullas Pandalam, Vavachan and PM Madhavan are also part of the cast. Vinod Ilampally has cranked the camera.

Script works completed for Mammootty-Vysakh film New York

After the superhit success of ‘Pokkiriraja’ and ‘Madhura Raja’, Mammootty and director Vysakh will be teaming up for a new film titled ‘New York’. UGM Productions is producing the film. It is learnt that script works have already been completed. The film is scripted by Naveen John, who had earlier penned the film ‘Ira’.

As per the makers, ‘New York’ will be a family-oriented action thriller. The makers had originally planned to shoot the film completely in the US. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there is an uncertainty prevailing regarding film shooting in foreign countries.

Director Vysakh is still hopeful that the film can be made as planned without any changes in the script. He firmly believes that they can recreate the setting of New York in India itself with the help of computer graphics and other latest technologies. More updates regarding the project is awaited.

Apart from ‘New York’, Mammootty has also committed for ‘Bilal’ and an untitled project with Sathyan Anthikad. Fortunately, he managed to finish his portions for ‘The Priest’ before the lockdown was announced. Debutant Jofin T Chacko is directing the film.

Oru Chance Kudu: Gautham Menon is back with a music video!

Tamil filmmaker Gautham Menon is keeping himself busy during this lockdown period with a lot of innovative ideas. After directing a lockdown short film named ‘Karthik Dial Seytha Yen’, he is now back with a music video. Titled as ‘Oru Chance Kudu’, it seems like a fun romantic song featuring Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Megha Akash and Kalaiyarasan. The song teaser has been released online.

From the teaser, it seems like ‘Oru Chance Kudu’ was shot following the lockdown protocols just like Menon’s earlier released shortfilm. The song is composed by Karthik and lyrics is penned by Madhan Karky. It is part of the Ondraga Originals series. The trio of Menon, Karthik and Karky had earlier made three other music videos named ‘Koova’, ‘Ulaviravu’ and ‘Bodhai Kodhai’.

Gautham Menon meanwhile has two feature films under different stages of production – ‘Joshua Imai Pol Naan Kaakka’ and ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’. He is also in talks for separate projects with Kamal Haasan, Suriya and Anushka Shetty.

Nivin Pauly is all praise for Anurag Kashyap-Roshan Mathew film Choked

As reported by us earlier, Malayalam actor Roshan Mathew is making his Bollywood debut with the Anurag Kashyap directorial ‘Choked: Paisa Bolta Hai’. The film is set to be released on streaming platform Netflix today (June 5) at 12.30 PM. Some selected celebrities have already had the opportunity to watch the film and the response so far has been unanimously positive.

Actor Nivin Pauly recently got to watch a special screening of the film and he seems to be highly impressed by it. The star took to his social media handle to heap praise on the film and the valuable contributions of the cast and crew. His Facebook post reads,

Just watched Anurag Kashyap’s #CHOKED.. The man continues to explore new territories each time..money, greed and its effects on relationships.. Thought provoking.. My friend and #Moothon co-star Roshan Mathew shines in his Hindi debut.. Saiyami Kher’s performance feels so real.. Sound Design is so well done, it puts you in the middle of every scene…Premiering June 5th on Netflix…A must watch! ?

It is worth a mention that Nivin Pauly, Roshan Mathew and Anruag Kashyap had earlier collaborated in ‘Moothon’. Kashyap had written the Hindi dialogues of the film. Incidentally, the director decided to cast Roshan in ‘Choked’ after being impressed by his terrific performance as the speech-impaired gay person in ‘Moothon’.

‘Choked’ has Roshan and Saiyami Kher in the lead roles. The film tells the story of a strong-willed middle-class housewife, who finds cash flowing out of her kitchen sink every night, and how this unexpected development changes her life. Saiyami plays 30-year-old bank cashier named Sarita Pillai and Roshan will be seen as her husband Sushant Pillai, who is a struggling musician. The film explores relationships, the balance between truth, power and money.

Master trailer to be released this month on Vijay’s birthday?

Every year on Vijay’s birthday, fans are treated with the first look poster, teaser or trailer of the star’s new film. This year, the situation is slightly different due to the Covid-19 scenario. Still fans are hopeful about the trailer release of Vijay’s highly anticipated film ‘Master’. The film was supposed to hit screens in April but due to the lockdown, all plans have changed.

Though the makers had earlier hinted that trailer will be out only after the release date is confirmed, fans are hoping that the decision will be changed and the trailer will be out on June 22, Vijay’s birthday. An official word is expected to be out in a week’s time.

‘Master’ is written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film has Vijay playing the role of an arts college professor with a dark past. Vijay Sethupathi, Andrea Jeremiah, Malavika Mohanan, Gouri Kishan and Shanthanu Bhagyaraj are also part of the film’s cast.
