Dubbing works started for Suresh Gopi starrer Kaaval

Suresh Gopi starrer ‘Kaaval’ was on the verge of competition when lockdown was announced. The team has still got 10 more days of shoot left and it’s expected to be resumed once lockdown restrictions are over. Meanwhile, they have started the post-production activities. Dubbing works are currently underway.

Suresh Gopi is making his comeback to mass genre with ‘Kaaval’ and hence expectations are high. It is written and directed by Nithin Renji Panicker of ‘Kasaba’ fame. The film touted to be an action-packed family drama. The story set in the high ranges of Idukki spans across different timelines.

Renji Panicker is playing a crucial role along with Suresh Gopi. Lal was initially supposed to play the role but he opted out due to his commitments in other languages. Both Suresh Gopi and Renji Panciker will be appearing in two getups in the film – an older and younger look.

‘Kaaval’ has Zaya David of Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu’ as the female lead. Others in the cast include Alencier Ley Lopez, IM Vijayan, Sujith Shankar, Kichu Tellus, Binu Pappu, Santhosh Keezhattoor, Muthumani and Pathamaraj Ratheesh. National award winner Nikhil S Praveen is the DOP and Ranjin Raj of ‘Joseph’ fame handles the music department. Joby George of Goodwill Entertainments is producing the film.

Karnam Malleswari biopic announced on her birthday

It seems like there is no end to biopics in Indian cinema and the latest to get one is weightlifting champion Karnam Malleswari. Today, on the occasion of her birthday, Kona Film Corporation have officially announced the biopic. Sanjana Reddy, who made ‘Raju Gadu’, will be directing this film. The makers are yet to reveal the cast but they have confirmed that it will be a multilingual pan Indian film made on a big scale.

Karnam Malleswari born in Andhra Pradesh trained in weightlifting since childhood and began her career when she was 12. She is the first and only Indian woman to win a medal at the Olympics. At the the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Malleswari lifted 110 kg in the snatch and 130 kg in the clean and jerk categories for a total of 240 kg. She made the country proud by winning the bronze medal at the competition.

It is not yet known who will be playing Karnam Malleswari’s role in the biopic but whoever does the role will have to put strenuous efforts to pull off the character authentically.

Karthik Subbaraj to team up with Vikram next

Couple of years back, there were speculations about Vikram and Karthik Subbaraj joining hands. It was speculated that the duo will be teaming up for a mass entertainer. But, there were no further updates and the director went on to work with superstar Rajinikanth in ‘Petta’ and later with Dhanush in ‘Jagame Thanthiram’. After a brief gap, talks regarding Karthik and Vikram teaming up have once again started doing the rounds.

Lalith Kumar of 7 Screen Studio is likely to produce the film. It is worth a mention that the same banner is producing Vikram’s upcoming film ‘Cobra’ as well. It will be interesting to see Vikram with a talented young filmmaker like Karthik.

The director’s much-anticipated gangster film ‘Jagame Thanthiram’ was supposed to release this month but due to the Covid-19 scenario, all plans have been changed. Vikram meanwhile has a few days of shoot still left for ‘Cobra’, directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu of ‘Imaikka Nodigal’ fame. ‘Karnan’ and ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ are his other two projects in the pipeline.

Andhaghaaram to release directly on Netflix

After ‘Ponmagal Vandhaal’ and ‘Penguin’, another Tamil film is now getting a direct OTT release. Its streaming rights have been bagged by Netflix. Release date is expected to be announced shortly. The film stars ‘Katihi’ fame Arjun Das, Vinoth Kishan, Pooja Ramachandran, Kumar Natarajan and Misha Ghoshal in major roles.

Directed by V Vignarajan, ‘Andhaghaaram’ is a supernatural suspense thriller. The plot goes like this, “A blind conjurer’s struggle for survival, a washed-up cricketer’s fight for deliverance and a desolate psychiatrist’s quest for reclamation lead them to a labyrinth of obscurity while their lives are intertwined i a web of deceit, dismay and darkness.”

Superhit filmmaker Atlee is presenting the film under his banner A For Apple. Atlee was very impressed by the film and decided to release it through his banner. It is produced by Sudhan Sundaram and Jayaram from Passion Studios Production in association with K Poorna Chandra of O2 Pictures and Priya Atlee.

Dulquer Salmaan to reprise Kamal Haasan’s role in the remake of this yesteryear classic Tamil film!

As per latest reports from Kollywood medias, classic Tamil film ‘Aval Appadithan’ is set to be remade after 42 years of its release. The new version will be directed by Hari Venkateswaran and Shruthi Haasan will be playing the lead role in it. The original had Sripriya, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth in the lead roles. Shruthi has already been confirmed to essay Sripriya’s role. Talks are on with Dulquer Salmaan to reprise Kamal Haasan’s role. Rumours about Simbu playing Rajinikanth’s role are also doing the rounds.

‘Aval Appadithan’ directed by C Rudhraiya is among the most celebrated films in Tamil cinema history. The plot revolves around a woman and the difficulties she faces in her life, due to her romantic relationships, resulting in her developing an aggressive and cynical nature towards men.

Badri Venkatesh, who has previously directed films like ‘Baana Kaathadi’ and ‘Semma Botha Aagathey’, has already got a producer on board. They are currently trying to bag the rights of the orginal film. If everything goes well, the film will be ready sometime next year.

Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith Sankar is known for consistently doing films unlike his contemporaries who tend to take long breaks. The director is making full use of this lockdown period as he has finished penning four scripts already. It includes a family entertainer, an action-based film, a socio-political thriller and an experimental project based on the lockdown.

Ranjith Sankar is aware that cinema industry is severely hit by Covid-19 pandemic and it will take time for things to get back to normal. He believes that Malayalam films are most likely to loose markets outside Kerala and overseas. So the only way forward is reducing the budget and work accordingly.

Ranjith Sankar’s last release was ‘Kamala’ that had Aju Varghese and Ruhani Sharma in the leads. The film failed to click at the box office but the director hopes to see people talking about the film after years like ‘Ramante Edanthottam’, another film of his that didn’t do well at the theatres.

Suriya and Karthi to star in Ayyappanum Koshiyum remake?

It seems like there is no end to speculations regarding the cast of ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ remake. Ever since the Tamil version’s rights was bagged by producer S Kathiresan, there has been multiple reports about who will be playing the two central characters. Names like Arya, Sasikumar and Sarath Kumar were the first to do the rounds. Fresh set of rumors suggest that brothers Suriya and Karthi will be playing the lead roles. It seems to be a highly unlikely chance but fans are still hopeful about the two stars coming together on screen. No confirmation has been made yet.

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is an action-drama written and directed by Sachy. Prithviraj Sukumaran and Biju Menon played the lead roles in it. The story revolves around the raging conflict between a soon-to-retire policeman and a retired havildar. The film was a big hit during its theatrical run and later with the OTT release, it found got great response from the non-Malayali audience as well. Though remake rights of its Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions have already been sold, formal announcement regarding the cast has not yet been made.

Malayalam actor Jayaram is starring in a new Sanskrit film named ‘Namo’. The film is based on the friendship between Lord Krishna and Kuchela or Sudama. Jayaram is playing the role of Kuchelan in it. First song from the film has just been released online. The song titled ‘Neel Neel Krishna’ is sung and composed by Anup Jalota, who is popularly known as the ‘Bhajan Samraat’.

‘Namo’ is directed by Vijeesh Mani, who is best known for his film ‘Vishwaguru’ that was made and released in just 51 hours and 2 minutes. He had created a new Guinness World Record with that film. The director had also made another film named ‘Netaji’ in Irula language with producer Gokulam Gopalan as the lead actor. The film also won a Guinness award, this time for being the world’s first tribal language film.

For ‘Namo’, Jayaram had undergone a major physical transformation. He shaved his head completely besides losing around 20 kgs of weight. Sarkar Desai, Mythili Javedkar, Raj and many other actors from across the country are part of the cast.

OTT rights of Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb bagged for Rs 125 crores!!

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and shutting down of theatres, many filmmakers are pondering over direct OTT release. In Bollywood, Ayushmann Khuranna-Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ will be the first to release after the lockdown started. The film is set to premiere in Amazon Prime on June 12.

Akshay Kumar’s horror-comedy ‘Laxmmi Bomb’ is another film that is gearing up for OTT release. If reports are to be believed, the film’s streaming rights have been bagged by Hotstar for a whopping amount of Rs 125 crores. Usually digital rights of a big star film gets sold at prices of Rs 60-70 crores. But since ‘Laxxmi Bomb’ will not be having a theatrical release and is being straightaway sold to digital, they have fetched a huge price.

‘Laxmmi Bomb’ is the official remake of blockbuster Tamil film ‘Kanchana’ aka ‘Muni 2’. Akshay Kumar, Kiara Advani and Tussshar Kapoor play lead roles in the film. Raghava Lawrence, who starred and directed the original, is helming the Hindi version as well.

‘Laxmmi Bomb’ was originally scheduled for release during the Eid season. Even though it would have clashed with Salman Khan’s ‘Radhe’, it is widely believed that the film had the potential of earning over 200 crore at the box office. Currently, the team is busy with the post-production works. It is learnt that film will not be hitting the OTT platforms at least till a month after the lockdown is lifted.

The trailer of Mamta Mohandas’ new film ‘Lalbagh’ dropped in recently. Set entirely in the city of Bangalore, the film looks like a crime thriller. Prasanth Murali Padmanabhan is directing the film. He has also scripted it. Along with Mamta, the cast includes Sijoy Varghese, Rahul Madhav, Neha Saxena, Nandini Rai, Rahul Dev Shetty, VK Prakash and many others.

Mamta and Sijoy Varghese play a couple in the film. From the trailer, ‘Lalbagh’ looks like a thrilling ride. The film even comes with the tagline, ‘Garden City of Sins’. Antony Jo’s cinematography seems to be one of the highlights of the film. The visuals are slick and has the mood of a proper thriller. Rahul Raj is handling the music department in the film. Official announcement regarding the release date is expected to be made only after the Corona crisis is over and theatres resume functioning.
