Earlier in the day, news broke that Bollywood superstar John Abraham has bagged the remake rights of the recent Malayalam blockbuster ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’. It is still not known if John will be acting in the remake version but the star seems to be really kicked about the film. According to him, ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is a film that strikes perfect balance between action, thrill and a good story. So he is hopeful of making an engaging film with the remake.

John has tweeted,

Ayyappanum Koshiyum, a film that strikes a perfect balance between action, thrill and a good story. At JA Entertainment we are keen to bring such appealing stories to our audience..we hope to make a truly engaging film with this remake in Hindi. Really Excited !!!

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ written and directed by Sachy has Prithviraj and Biju Menon in the lead roles. The story revolves around the conflict between a soon-to-retire policeman and a retired havildar. It was a big hit during its theatrical run and later with the OTT release, the film found got great response from the non-Malayali audience as well. Apart from Hindi, its Tamil and Telugu remake rights have also been sold.

Last year, it was announced that Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Joju George would be teaming up for a film named ‘Thankam’. National award winner Syam Pushkaran is scripting the film and Saheed Arafat of ‘Theeram’ fame is directing it. Shoot was supposed to kick-start in April, but due to the lockdown and other restrictions, it has been put on hold.

As confirmed by the makers, ‘Thankam’ will be a crime drama. Interestingly, Fahadh Faasil will be seen playing a thief’s role in the film. It is said that he is essaying a character named Kuttappan Thankamani aka Kallan Kuttan. It is worth a mention that, Fahadh’s remarkable performance as a small-time thief in ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ had earned him a National award. In ‘Thankam’, we can expect to see a different style of performance from him.

Syam Pushkaran, Dileesh Pothan and Fahadh are also involved in the production of ‘Thankam’. They are jointly producing it under their banners of Working Class Hero and Fahadh Faasil and Friends. The trio last produced the widely acclaimed ‘Kumbalangi Nights’.

For his new film ‘Aadujeevitham’, Prithviraj has undergone a dramatic physical transformation, a first of this kind in Malayalam cinema. The film is about a Najeeb, a migrant labourer who gets stranded in the deserts of Saudi Arabia. For playing the character, Prithviraj had lost around 30 kilos to achieve a malnourished look.

After being on a strict diet for close to five months, the actor is now slowly returning back to his usual self. Just a while back, he shared a new photo flaunting his abs after his regular work out session. Along with the photo, he has written a brief note about the struggle that he had to endure during the shoot days in Jordan. He also tagged colleague Dulquer Salmaan who has been inspiring everyone during these lockdown with his training photos.

Prithviraj’s post reads,

One month since we finished the last of the bare body scenes for #Aadujeevitham. On the last day, I had dangerously low fat percentage and visceral fat levels. Post that..one month of fuelling, resting and training my body has got me here. I guess my crew who’ve seen me a month ago when I was at my weakest, and way way below my ideal weight will be the ones truly surprised. Thanks to Ajith babu my trainer/nutritionist and Blessy chetan and team for understanding that post “THAT” day, shoot will have to be planned with enough time allocated for my recuperation. Remember..the human body has it’s limits..the human mind doesn’t! Dulquer Salmaan #TrainingDone ?

After being in Jordan for over two months for the shoot of ‘Aadujeevitham’, the 58-member team returned back to Kochi only last week. They were stranded there for few weeks due to the Covid-19 scenario before they returned back in a special flight. Prithviraj is currently quarantining at a specially arranged accommodation at Fort Kochi.

2020 started off on a great note for Dulquer Salmaan as he delivered two back to back hits, that too in two different languages. His February releases – ‘Varane Avashyamund’ (VA) and ‘Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal’ (KKK) emerged successful at the box office. His ambitious film ‘Kurup’ was planned to release during the Eid season but due to the lockdown, all plans got changed.

This year, Dulquer was also supposed to act in a Telugu film. The actor himself had confirmed it when he was in Hyderabad as part of promotions of ‘Kanulu Kanulanu Dochayante’, the Telugu dubbed version of KKK. We hear that the film will be directed by Hanu Raghavapudi of ‘Padi Padi Leche Manasu’ fame.

Reports suggest that Pooja Hegde will be paired with Dulquer in this yet-to-be titled film. After the smashing success of the Telugu film ‘Ala Vaikunthapuramuloo’, Pooja has been getting several big offers from Tamil and Telugu. This will be her first outing with Dulquer, and their chemistry would be something exciting to watch out for.

Dulquer is already familiar with the Telugu audience thanks to the huge success of ‘Mahanati’, in which he played the role of late actor Gemini Ganesan. His new film with Hanu Raghavapudi will be produced by Swapna Cinema, one of the banners that produced ‘Mahanati’.

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ has been hot in the remake market ever since the tremendous reception it received during its release time. After the Tamil and Telugu remake rights, then film’s Hindi rights have also been sold. Bollywood superstar John Abraham has acquired the remake rights. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh broke the news by tweeting,

ANNOUNCEMENT… #JohnAbraham acquires #Hindi remake rights of #Malayalam film #AyyappanumKoshiyum… The #Malayalam film – an action-thriller – stars #PrithvirajSukumaran and #BijuMenon… #John’s production house – JA Entertainment – will produce the film.

Since John Abraham has bagged the rights, he is most likely to play one of the leads in the film. The original directed by Sachy had Prithviraj and Biju Menon in the lead roles. Although the remake rights of Tamil and Telugu versions have been bagged, details regarding the cast and crew are not yet known.

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is a dual hero film that revolves around the conflict between a soon-to-retire policeman and a retired havildar. It tells an intricately woven tale of revenge with a lot of important socio-political issues addressed. It will be very interesting to see how the film will be adapated to different languages to suit the sensibilities of the native audience.

Mammootty’s Masterpiece becomes the first Malayalam film to be dubbed in Russian language!

Mammootty’s 2017 film ‘Masterpiece’ is set to be the first Malayalam movie to be dubbed in Russian language. The film’s director Ajai Vasudev shared the big news through his official social media handle. Actor Unni Mukundan, who played the villain role in the film, has also shared the news.

‘Masterpiece’ is a mass entertainer set in the backdrop of a campus. The film had an elaborate star cast comprising of actors like Gokul Suresh, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Divya Pillai, Poonam Bajwa, Mukesh, Maqbool Salman etc. During the time of its theatrical response, the film couldn’t appease the critics but it still had a fair run. The film was later dubbed in Tamil as Sanakyan and in Hindi as Ek Thaa Boss. The Hindi version has fetched over 6 lakh views in YouTube.

‘Masterpiece’ was produced under the banner of Royal Cinemas owned by CH Muhammed. For the Russian version, the makers have signed a deal with Four Season Creations, a company based in Norway.

First look poster of Manju Warrier’s Kayattam grabs attention!

Last day, on the occasion of Eid, the first look poster of Manju Warrier’s new film ‘Kayattam’ was released online. From the poster, we can make out that she plays a hiker in the film. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, the film was completely shot in Himachal Pradesh. Manju has also produced the film along with Shaji Mathew and Aruna Mathew.

It was during the shoot of ‘Kayattam’ that Manju Warrier and crew got stranded in the flood-hit remote areas of Himachal Pradesh last August. The crew got stuck in Chhattru, an isolated village located on the road to Spiti Valley from Manali, after a series of flash floods and landslides had blocked the roads. Timely intervention from the Kerala government, Union Ministry and Himachal Pradesh government helped the crew return back to safety.

Karthi, who belongs to a well-known cinema family in Kollywood, started his journey in the industry as an assistant director to Mani Ratnam in ‘Aayudha Ezhuthu’. He made his acting debut in 2007 with the widely acclaimed ‘Paruthiveeran’. Over the years, he has carved a niche for himself by starring in several hit films like ‘Paiyaa’, ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’, ‘Madras’, ‘Komban’, ‘Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru’, ‘Kadaikutty Singam’ and ‘Kaithi’.

In a shocking incident, that is probably the first of its kind in Kerala, Hindu extremist members have demolished the structure of a church erected for the shoot of upcoming Malayalam film ‘Minnal Murali’. The incident occurred at Kalady where the art department had worked several days to erect a huge structure of a church. The film’s climax portions were supposed to be shot in this church. Unfortunately, the Kalady schedule could not begin in time due to the lockdown.

Bajrang Dal activists stormed the area last day and vandalised the set alleging that it stood on Hindu grounds. A top member of the group even shared photos of young members demolishing the structure. Netizens and many from within the film industry have come out calling against these activists. FEFKA general secretary B Unnikrishnan has requested the government to take severe action against the perpetrators.

Sophia Paul, who is the producer of ‘Minnal Murali’, took to her social media handle to express her disappointment. She has written,

Minnal Murali is an ambitious super hero project which is under production and we have filmed almost a major portion of the film. The film required almost 2 years of preproduction and planning owing to the scope and scale of the film. The remaining portion of the movie will be shot as soon as restrictions for movie production is lifted.

The next schedule is planned in Kaladi and we have had constructed a massive set of a church where the climax was to be shot. Unfortunately due to the pandemic we couldn’t resume the shoot and was waiting for government guidance regarding the permissions to resume shoot.The set at kaaladi was planned and built for one of our most important scene. All required permissions to build the set at the location was taken.

Today’s incident is so unfortunate and a colossal loss.

‘Minnal Murali’ is being directed by Basil Joseph of ‘Kunjiramayanam’ and ‘Godha’ fame. Tovino Thomas plays the lead role of a local superhero in the film. Tamil actor Guru Somasundaram is also there in an important role. Scripted by Arun Anirudhan and Justin Mathew, the film tells the story of a rustic youth who gets superhero powers after being struck by a lightning.

‘Minnal Murali’ is being made simultaneously in 4 languages – Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. The film has Sameer Thahir as the cinematographer, Shaan Rahman as the composer and Hollywood-based Vlad Rimburg as the action choreographer.
