Last year’s highly acclaimed Tamil film ‘Asuran’ is getting remade in Telugu as ‘Narappa’. Veteran star Venkatesh is playing the titular role, which was done by Dhanush in the original. Manju Warrier’s role from ‘Asuran’ is being essayed by Priyamani. It is the latter’s birthday today and the makers of ‘Narappa’ have released a special poster revealing her character’s look.

‘Asuran’ is the story of a lower caste family’s fight for survival. Director Vetrimaaran adapted the film from Poomani’s famous novel ‘Vekkai’. Dhanush and Manju Warrier’s performances in the film was widely appreciated. As the film gets remade in Telugu, both Venkatesh and Priyamani being seasoned actors are expected to come up with equally brilliant performances.

‘Narappa’ is directed by Srikanth Addala. Suresh Productions and Kalaipuli S Thanu’s V Creations are jointly producing the film. It is learnt that the script has been expected to be tweaked slightly to suit the sensibilities of the Telugu audience.

Confirmed: Mysskin’s next with Arun Vijay is a cop flick

After falling out with Vishal during the shoot of ‘Thupparivalan 2’, there have been many speculations about director Mysskin’s upcoming films. In a recent interview, the director himself has revealed his plans. He currently has three projects lined up — a cop film with Arun Vijay, a horror flick titled ‘Kaavu’ and an action film with Simbu.

Arun Vijay’s film will be the first to go on the floors. This is the first time the talented actor will be working with Mysskin, so expectations are high. There were reports about this upcoming film being a sequel to the director’s own ‘Anjathe’, also a cop film, that got released back in 2008. Mysskin has however denied these reports. As per him, it is a fresh script with an interesting premise. All in Pictures is said to be producing the film. An official word is expected to be out soon.

Arun Vijay had recently wrapped up shoot for ‘Sinam’ and was working on Arivazhagan’s new film when the lockdown was announced. Touted to be a thriller, it is his second film with the director after the superhit success of ‘Kuttram 23’. The star also has some other interesting projects like ‘Boxer’ and ‘Agni Siragugal’ in the pipeline.

For the last few days, Kollywood medias have been Vikram joining hands with the highly talented Karthik Subbaraj. As per these reports, this will be Virkam’s 60th film and it will be produced by Lalith Kumar of 7 Screen Studio. It is worth a mention that the same banner is producing Vikram’s upcoming film ‘Cobra’ as well.

Latest speculation is that Vikram and his son Dhruv might share screen space in Karthik’s film. No official confirmation has been made yet but it will be huge if Karthik indeed manages to bring the father-son duo together. Ever since the release of his debut film ‘Aditya Varma’, which didn’t perform well, Dhruv has stayed away from the limelight. Acting alongside his father at such an early stage of his career should prove to be a big break for Dhruv. Let’s hope the project materializes.

Vikram meanwhile has a few days of shoot still left for ‘Cobra’, directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu of ‘Imaikka Nodigal’ fame. ‘Karnan’ and ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ are his other two projects in the pipeline.

Last month, Prithviraj Sukumaran along with the 57-member crew of ‘Aadujeevitham’ returned back from Jordan, where they were shooting for over two months. Ever since then, all of them have been in quarantine as per the protocols laid out by the government. Prithviraj has now tested negative for Covid-19. The actor took to social medias to share the test result. Along with that, he has also written,

‘Aadujeevitham’ is directed by award-winning filmmaker Blessy. It is the story of a migrant labourer getting stranded in the deserts of Saudi Arabia. Prithviraj reduced around 30 kilos to sport a malnourished look. The actor is now slowly getting back to shape. Recently, he had shared photos of his fit physique after a workout session.

‘Aadujeevitham’ team still has another schedule of shoot. It is learnt that the makers are planning to shoot the remaining portions in Namibia once the situation gets better worldwide and traveling abroad is advised.

After the blockbuster success of ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’, offers are pouring in for Jayaram from Telugu film industry. His performance and overall had stylish appearance in the film grabbed eyeballs. The veteran star has now bagged some other big projects in Tollywood. He will be seen in crucial roles in Jr NTR’s and Prabhas’ upcoming films. The actor himself revealed this in a recent interview. Besides this, he also has a Sanskrit film named ‘Namo’ and the multi-starrer ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ in the pipeline.

‘Namo’ is directed by Vijeesh Mani, who is best known for his film ‘Vishwaguru’ that was made and released in just 51 hours and 2 minutes. He had created a new Guinness World Record with that film. Jayaram will be seen playing the role of Kuchelan in ‘Namo’. He had undergone a major physical transformation by shaving his head completely and losing around 20 kgs of weight for the character.

In ‘Ponniyin Selvan’, Jayaram will be sharing screen space with with pan-Indian stars like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Trisha, Vikram Prabhu, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Kishore, Rahman, Lal etc. In this epic-historic film, he essays a character named Azhwarkadiyan Nambi.

Forensic all set for streaming in Netflix

Superhit Malayalam film ‘Forensic’ is all set for release in Netflix. The streaming giant had got the rights for a huge price and we have learnt that the film will be released on June 7. The film has already had its television premier. Recently, it was re-released in a few theatres in Dubai.

‘Forensic’ starring Tovino Thomas was having an excellent run at the box office when theatres had to shut down. The film had grossed around Rs 20 from the worldwide box office before it had to be pulled out from theatres.

Directed by Akhil Paul and Anas Khan, ‘Forensic’ is a crime-investigative thriller centred around a series of abduction and killing of girl children. It has Tovino essaying the lead role of a medico legal advisor. Mamta Mohandas plays an equally important character of an IPS officer who heads the investigation.

Reba Monica John, Renji Panicker, Prathap Pothen, Rony David, Dhanesh Anand, Anwar Shereef, Srikanth Murali, Ginu John and many others are also part of the supporting cast. The film is produced by Navis Xaviour and Siju Mathew under the banner of Juvis Productions and Raju Malliath’s Ragam Movies.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, theatres across the country have been closed for almost three months now. Even if the lockdown restrictions are over and theatres resume functioning, it is not yet sure if audience will be coming back for the big screen experience due to the risk involved. Also the lockdown period has introduced many to the world of OTTs and watching films from home comfort. Despite all that, there is a belief among industry insiders that good content can pull back audience to theatres.

Malayalam filmmaker Jeethu Joseph is confident that ‘Drishyam 2’ will do well in theatres. The fact that the first part was a humongous success helps as audience will be intrigued to what happens to Georgekutty and family. The director firmly believes that the film will offer an engaging experience. Mohanlal will be reprising the lead role and along with him, all major actors are expected to be retained.

Shoot for ‘Drishyam 2’ is likely to begin once the lockdown restrictions are lifted and guidelines are issued. The makers are planning to wrap up the entire shoot in just around 60. Aashirvad Cinemas is producing the film.

Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is one of the most ambitious films in the making in Indian cinema currently. The film stars a plethora of stars from various languages. Malayalam star Jayaram is also playing a very important role in the film. He had shot for a few portions during the first schedule which was held in Thailnad. Shoot is currently put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The film is originally based on a historical Tamil novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. It tells the story of early days of Arulmozhivarman, who later became the great Chola emperor Raja Raja Chola I. Jayaram has pinned high hopes on the film. According to him, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is like Mahabharatha made on a huge scale. Made in two parts, it is shaping up to be one of the biggest films made in Indian cinema.

Jayaram has revealed that he plays the character named Azhwarkadiyan Nambi. He will be seen sporting a clean shaven head in the film. The cast also includes Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Trisha, Vikram Prabhu, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Kishore, Rahman, Lal, Ashwin Kakumanu and many others.

Mani Ratnam’s own banner Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions are collaborating for this mega budget film’s production.
