National award winner Apurva Asrani heaps praise on Nivin Pauly’s Moothon

It has been almost a year since the release of ‘Moothon’ but the film still continues to be talked about. The Geetu Mohandas directorial was noted for its sensitive and beautiful portrayal of a homosexual relationship. Nivin Pauly and Roshan Mathew as the gay couple were brilliant and their portions are easily the best moments of the film.

Apurva Asrani, a renowned editor-turned-filmmkaer from Bollywood, has showered praise on the film and the performances. He has tweeted,

Apart from being a National award winning editor, scenarist and filmmaker, Apurva Asrani is also an influential voice in the fight for equal rights for the LGBTQ in India. Vijay requests fans not to celebrate his birthday this year!

Every year, Tamil actor Vijay’s birthdays are celebrated extravagantly with charity activities, other social works and special re-release of his popular films. On top of that, new updates regarding his upcoming films will also be made to create a buzz in social medias. However, this year it looks like there will be no such celebrations due to the Covid-19 situation.

As per Kollywood medias, Vijay has personally requested his fans not to engage in any celebrations during this moment of crisis and instead continue with the welfare activities. N Anand, head of Vijay Fan Club Association in Tamil Nadu, has conveyed the same to the actor’s fans across the country.

Meanwhile, fans are atleast hopeful of getting a new update like a teaser or trailer of the star’s upcoming film ‘Master’. An official word is expected to be out soon. The Lokesh directorial was supposed to hit screens in April but it had to be postponed due to the pandemic. The film has Vijay playing the role of an arts college professor with a dark past. Vijay Sethupathi, Andrea Jeremiah, Malavika Mohanan, Gouri Kishan and Shanthanu Bhagyaraj are also part of the film’s cast.

B Tech fame Mridul Nair and Nimisha team up for Ghar Se

It’s been almost three months since the country has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Since film shoots are not happening like it used to be, many are adapting themselves to this new situation. Lockdown short films are being made in many languages and we have now got one from Malayalam industry. Director Mridul Nair of ‘B Tech’ fame has made a short film named ‘Ghar Se’. Nimisha Sajayan, Dinesh Prabhakar and Ambika Rao play the leads in the film. An intriguing first look poster featuring Nimisha was released online last day.

‘Ghar Se’ has its story by Mridul while screenplay and dialogues are penned by J Ramakrishna Kulur, who was also the co-scenarist of ‘B Tech’. Cinematography is done by Jomon T John, who is now a much-wanted DOP in Bollywood. Music is composed by Sreerag Saji and edits are handled by Manoj Kannoth. National award winning art director Vinesh Banglan and acclaimed sound designer Renganaath Ravee are also part of the crew.

Sajin Jaffar has produced the film. Interestingly, actor Asif Ali’s wife Zama Mazreen Ali has been credited as the creative producer.

Prachi Tehlan picks her three favorite actors from Malayalam!

Punjabi actress and former sportsperson, Prachi Tehlan is now a known face to the Malayali audience after ‘Mamangam’. She played the role of Unnimaya in the film and her performance was noted. A very active person on social medias, Prachi had a live interaction session with her followers in Instagram last day.

When one of them asked the actress to pick her favourite actor from Malayalam film industry, she mentioned the names of Mammootty, Tovino Thomas and Prithviraj Sukumaran. She also added that she loves them not just as actors but as personalities as well.

Prachi Tehlan made her acting debut with the Hindi TV show ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’. She has also acted in a couple of Punjabi movies. She is also the former captain of the Indian national Netball Team which represented the country in the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

After ‘Mamangam’, the actress is said to have received several offers from Malayalam but she is yet to make an official announcement on her next.

Vikram set to dub for Dhruva Natchathiram!

Gautham Menon’s ambitious spy thriller film ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ starring Chiyaan Vikram in the lead has been in the making for a long time now. For the past few months, there have been no updates about it and in the meanwhile the director also moved on to other projects. Menon has now informed that shoot is almost done and post-production works are progressing. Vikram has agreed to dub for his portions after the Covid-19 situation eases. The star also has other commitments pending.

According to Gautham Menon, ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ revolves around 10 agents who work in disguise to protect and safeguard the nation. They are responsible for national security and to protect it from foreign forces. Vikram heads the 10-member team which includes actors like Simran, Parthiban, Divyadarshini aka DD, Radhika Sarath Kumar, Munna and Vamsi Krishna.

Ritu Varma and Aishwarya Rajesh play the two female leads in the film. Malayalam actor Vinayakan is said to be playing the antagonist’s role.

Second season of Amazon Prime series Breathe to be out soon; Release date announced

After the success of the first season, Amazon Prime’s original web series ‘Breathe’ is now coming back, this time with a new cast and crew. The first season had R Madhavan and Amit Sadh in the lead roles. Coming to the second installment, Amit Sadh will be reprising his cop role. He will be pitted against Abhishek Bachchan, who is making his web series debut.

South Indian actress Nithya Menen, who made her Hinid debut last year with ‘Mission Mangal’, is also part of ‘Breathe 2’. She will be seen playing a full-fledged and prominent character. Like Abhishek, this is also her maiden outing in a web series. The actress is quite thrilled about working in a series as she feels it gives more space for performance.

Though an official word is yet to be out, various reports suggest that ‘Breathe 2’ will start streaming on Amazon Prime from July 10.

Sufiyum Sujathayum release date announced

Last month, Vijay Babu of Friday Film House made a startling announcement that his film ‘Sufiyum Sujathayum’ will be releasing directly on Amazon Prime. The announcement stirred a controversy as exhibitors and distributors in Kerala were unhappy with a direct OTT release for a mainstream Malayalam film. They even called for boycotting Vijay Babu’s and lead actor Jayasurya’s films. Later, after holding several rounds of talks, the issue was settled amicably. The film is now slated for worldwide premiere on July 2.

‘Sufiyum Sujatha’ is a musical love story that stars Jayasurya and Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari in the lead roles. It is written and directed by Naranipuzha Shanavas. Vijay Babu has pinned high hopes on the film as he has repeatedly said that it has the potential to be the best film produced by his banner.

‘Sufiyum Sujathayum’ has Siddique, Hareesh Kanaran, Vijay Babu, Mamukkoya, Manikandan Pattambi, Kalaranjini and ‘Thamaasha’ fame Navas Vallikkunnu in supporting roles. Anu Moothedath is the DOP and Deepu Joseph is handling the edits. Veteran M Jayachandran is composing music for this film.

Composing begins for Vinayan’s multi-starrer film Pathonbatham Noottandu!

Director Vinayan had announced that he would be making a film titled ‘Pathonbatham Noottandu’ that will bring together several stars from South Indian cinema. Pre-prouduction works for the film has begun. Earlier in the day, the director took to his social media handle to share a photo from the song composing session. Veteran M Jayachandran is the music director. Gokulam Gopalan is producing this big budget film.

‘Pathonbatham Noottandu’ is a period-drama that will tell the story of Arattupuzha Velayudha Panicker, a brave Ezhava chieftain who lived in the 19th century. He was the first martyr of the Kerala Renaissance movement. The leader stood for the marginalized community and fought against the caste system. He led several struggles for women including the ‘Mookuthi Samaram’ – a protest led for the Ezhava women, who were denied the right to wear nose studs.

Vinayan and team is planning to start shooting from September end. More details regarding the cast and crew is expected to be updated before commencement of shoot.

Alphonse Puthren opens up about scripting a film for Mohanlal

5 year after the release of Premam, director Alphonse Puthren is finally making his presence felt in the medias. He has been giving some interviews back to back in which he has divulged several interesting details about the films he is planning to make in the future. Couple of years back, there were rumours about Puthren teaming up with superstar Mohanlal. Fans were highly excited but much to their disappointment, no further updates were made regarding the project.

In a recent interview with The Cue, the director has revealed that he indeed has plans to make a film with Mohanlal. Apparently, he has also got the script almost ready. Puthren has pinned high hopes on the film. According to him, it will be a better fanboy film than Rajinikanth’s ‘Petta’. Since he is aware about what audience expect from a superstar film, he is planning a wholesome entertainer.

Alphonse Puthren’s next film will be a musical. He is currently learning music from various sources to acquire more knowledge about the subject. The director is yet to reveal details about the cast or when the film will go on floors.

Ravi Teja and Rana Daggubati to star in Ayyappanum Koshiyum Telugu remake

As reported by us earlier, Malayalam blockbuster ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is getting remade in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Remake rights have been bagged by top production houses from the respective industries and pre-production works are currently underway. The original film starring Biju Menon and Prithviraj was a huge hit, so naturally, the makers of the remake versions will be looking forward to repeat the success.

It is learnt that the Telugu version will have Rana Daggubati and Ravi Teja in the lead roles. Rana was the first to get on board as he was highly impressed by the film. Reportedly, production house Sithara Entertainment had also approached Nandamuri Balakrishna but things did not work out. They later managed to convince Ravi Teja.

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ directed by Sachy is about the raging conflict between a policeman and a retired havildar. If reports are to be believed, the Telugu version will have Rana essaying Prithviraj’s role and Ravi Teja reprising the part played by Biju Menon.

Official announcement is expected to be made by the makers very soon.
