Dulquer Salmaan’s Kurup made on a budget of Rs 35 crores!

Dulquer Salmaan starrer ‘Kurup’ is a very ambitious film with a star-studded cast and a strong technical crew. Directed by Srinath Rajendran, the film is based on Kerala’s most wanted criminal, Sukumara Kurup. Since the makers had to recreate different time periods and locations, it turned out to be a very expensive project. It is learnt that the film is being made on a budget of around Rs 35 crores. The team shot the film in multiple schedules in Kerala, various parts of North India, Mangalore and in Dubai. Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films is producing it along with M Star Entertainment.

‘Kurup’ has its story written by Jithin K Jose while screenplay is penned jointly by KS Aravind and Daniel Sayooj Nair. Indrajith Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Sunny Wayne, Sobhita Dhulipala, Shine Tom Chacko. Vijayaraghavan, Surabhi Lekshmi and many others are part of the cast.

On the technical front, cinematographer Nimish Ravi of ‘Luca’ fame, music director Sushin Shyam, art director Vinesh Bangalan and editor Vivek Harshan form the core team. Regarding the release, the film was originally supposed to hit screens this week during the Eid season. But due to the Covid-19 scenario, it seems like we will have to wait a little longer to experience the film in big screen.

Aparna Balamurali and Fahadh Faasil to act together once again!

Though Aparna Balamurali started her acting career as a child artist in ‘Yathra Thudarunnu’ and later with a cameo role in ‘Oru Second Class Yathra’, it was ‘Maheshinte Prathikaram’ that made people note her. Aparna’s performance as the chirpy Jimsy was well received. As some of the core team members of ‘Maheshinte Prathikaram’ are reuniting, Aparna is also joining them.

She will be acting alongside Fahadh Faasil in the upcoming film ‘Thankam’. National award winner Syam Pushkaran is scripting the film and Saheed Arafath of ‘Theeram’ fame will be directing it. Dileesh Pothan and Joju George will be seen in other major roles. Syam Pushkaran, Dileesh Pothan and Fahadh are also involved in the film’s production. They are jointly producing ‘Thankam’ under their banners of Working Class Hero and Fahadh Faasil and Friends. The trio last produced the widely acclaimed ‘Kumbalangi Nights’.

As per the makers, ‘Thankam’ is a crime drama. Syam Pushkaran is attempting this genre for the first time and hence there are a lot of expectations. The film has a promising core technical crew comprising of ‘Theevandi’ fame Gautham Sankar as the DOP, Kiran Das as the editor and Bijibal as the composer.

Shoot is expected to kick-start as soon as the restrictions imposed by the government are lifted.

‘Master’ was supposed to hit screens in April but release had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Going by the present situation, Vijay fans will have to wait for a few more months before enjoying ‘Master’ on the big screen. It is widely reported that the film will be hitting screens only by Diwali in November.

‘Master’ is written and directed by ‘Kaithi’ fame Lokesh Kanagaraj. Pon Parthiben and Rathna Kumar have penned the additional screenplay. Vijay Sethupathi, Andrea Jeremiah, Arjun Das, Malavika Mohanan, Gouri Kishan and Shanthanu Bhagyaraj are also part of the film’s cast.

Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kadhal to start rolling in August!

We had earlier reported about Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara and Samantha coming together for a rom-com flick. The film titled as ‘Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal’ is written and directed by Vignesh Shivan of ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ fame. 7 Screen Studios and the director’s own Rowdy Pictures will be jointly producing the film. It is being reported that shoot for the film will begin from this August.

Expectations will be high on ‘Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal’ as this is the first time Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara and Samantha will be sharing screen space. Sivakarthikeyan was the first choice for the film but it could not materialize and Vignesh Shivan later roped in Vijay Sethupathi.

The director has been planning to make the film for a while now but it kept delaying due to various reasons. Finally, he has managed to get things together. The film is said to be a triangular love story and it will have music composed by young sensation Anirudh Ravichander.

Today, on the special occasion of ‘Eid’ the makers of upcoming Malayalam film ‘Ullasam’ have released a new poster online. Shane Nigam and Pavithra Lekshmi play the lead roles in the film. The newly released poster also features Aju Varghese and veteran actress Ambika. From the poster, the film looks like a colourful family entertainer.

‘Ullasam’ is directed by debutant Jeevan Jojo, who was a former associate of Ranjith Sankar, Deepu Karunakaran and Jeethu Joseph. The film is scripted by Praveen Balakrishna. Its supporting cast includes noted actors like Deepak Parambol, Basil Joseph, Ambika, Appukutty, Indrans, Nayana and Parvathy.

Aadujeevitham next schedule in Namibia!

After a two-month long schedule in Jordan, the crew of ‘Aadujeevitham’ returned back only recently. The team was stranded there for a few weeks due to the Covid-19 scenario before they returned back in a special flight. All the 58 members of the crew including director Blessy and lead actor Prithviraj are currently in quarantine. Blessy is at home quarantine in his house in Thiruvalla while Prithviraj is staying at a specially arranged accommodation at Fort Kochi.

We hear that the film’s next leg of shoot will be held in Namibia. Since travel restrictions have been imposed all acorss the world, it is not yet known when the team will be able to resume shooting.

‘Aadujeevitham’ is based on the award winning novel of the same name by Benyamin. The film originally went on floors two years back in early 2018. Due to Prithviraj’s other commitments and the need for him to appear in various looks, shoot happened over multiple schedules.

After being in Jordan for over two months for the shoot of ‘Aadujeevitham’, Prithviraj had returned back to Kochi last day. He is now quarantining at a specially arranged accommodation at Fort Kochi. The actor, who had undergone a drastic physical transformation recently, has already started working out to get back in shape. He took to his Instagram handle to share photos of his new gym equipment and captioned it as,

‘Aadujeevitham’ tells the story of a migrant labourer getting stranded in the deserts of Saudi Arabia. The character demanded Prithviraj to reduce close to 30 kilos. He took a three month long break from last December to March to shed all the extra weight and achieve a malnourished look.

Confirmed: Mammootty’s One will be a theatre release!

Mammootty’s ‘One’ was getting ready for release amidst high expectations when the lockdown was announced. Post-production works were in the final stages with just a couple of days patch up shoot left. The film was originally slated for Vishu release in April. Going by the current scenario, we will have to wait a little longer.

Of late, there have been lots of talks going on about films getting direct OTT release. Jayasurya’s ‘Sufiyum Sujathayum’ is most likely to be the first mainstream Malayalam film to be released directly on streaming platforms. However, the makers of ‘One’ have confirmed that the film will only be a theatrical release. It is an ambitious political film with a big star cast.

Santhosh Viswanath of ‘Chirakodinja Kinavukal’ fame is directing the film. Bobby and Sanjay have scripted the film based on some real life incidents. Joju George, Murali Gopy, Nimisha Sajayan, Sudev Nair, Suresh Krishna, Shanker Ramakrishnan, Alencier Ley Lopez, Mammukoya, Siddique, Balachandra Menon, Salim Kumar, Madhu, Ranjith, Mathew Thomas, Ishaani Krishna, Gayathri Arun and many others are part of the film’s cast.

Drishyam 2: All major actors from first part to be retained!

‘Drishyam 2’ was one of the biggest surprise announcements in recent memory. The project itself got initiated after some developments. Though director Jeethu Joseph had been pondering over an idea for a sequel for the last few years, a full-fledged script was developed only recently during the lockdown days. Mohanlal and Jeethu were working on another film titled ‘Ram’ when the lockdown was announced. Since it is impossible to shoot in foreign countries, the film has been shelved for now. Instead, they will begin works on ‘Drishyam 2’ when restrictions are lifted.

‘Drishyam 2’ will continue exactly from where the first part ended. The story will once again revolve around the lives of Georgekutty and family. Along with Mohanlal, all the major actors including Meena, Ansiba Haasan, Esther Anil, Siddique, Asha Sarath and Kalabhavan Shajon are most likely to be retained. The makers are planning to wrap up the entire shoot in just around 60. Aashirvad Cinemas is producing the film.
