Third single from Ajith’s Thunivu titled Gangstaa

After the excellent response for the first two singles, ‘Chilla Chilla’ and ‘Kaase Thaan Kadavul’, the makers of ‘Thunivu’ have announced that the third single will be out on December 25 on the occasion of Christmas. Titled ‘Gangsta’, the song is penned by Viveka, composed by Ghibran and sung by Shabir.

‘Thunivu’, written and directed by H Vinoth, is touted as a heist thriller. It is Ajith’s third film with the director after ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ and ‘Valimai’. Boney Kapoor’s Bayview Projects LLP and Zee Studios are jointly backing the project. The film has cinematography by NiravShah, editing by Vijay Velukutty.

‘Thunivu’ also stars Manju Warrier, Samuthirakani, John Kokken and Veera. The film is all set for a grand Pongal release in January. It will be clashing with Vijay’s ‘Varisu’ at the box office. Both the films are releasing amidst high expectations. It is eight years after the Jilla-Veeram face-off that Vijay and Ajith are having a direct clash.

Saudi Vellakka OTT release date announced

After a fair run in theatres, Tharun Moorthy’s ‘Saudi Vellakka’ is set for OTT release on Sony LIV. The film will be out on the streaming platfrom on January 6, 2023.

‘Saudi Vellakka’ released in theaters on December 2 amidst high expectations. The film first grabbed attention when it got picked for screening at the Indian Panorama of the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI). It was also an official selection at the 21st Dhaka International FIlm Festival, 2023.

‘Saudi Vellakka’ is a heartwarming drama with a relevant social message. The themes explored in the film are remorse, compassion, and the need for a prompt judicial system. It stars Devi Varma, Sujith Shankar, Lukman, Binu Pappu, Sudhi Koppa, Gokulan, Srindaa, Dhanya Ananyaa, and a host of newcomers.

The film is produced by Sandip Senan’s Urvasi theatres banner.

It’s a wrap for Morocco schedule of Mohanlal’s Ram

After getting shelved during the pandemic, shoot for the upcoming Mohanlal-Jeethu Joseph film got resumed earlier this year in August. The team have been shooting acorss European countries. Last day, director Jeethu took to social media to inform that the Morocco schedule of the film has been wrapped up.

‘Ram’, made on a grand scale, is an action-based entertainer in which Mohanlal plays the titular role. It has Trisha as the female lead. She is said to be playing the role of a doctor in the film. Bollywood actor Adil Hussain, Indrajith Sukumaran, Durga Krishna, Samyuktha Menon and Leona Lishoy are also part of the film.

Ramesh R Pillai and Sudhan S Pillai are jointly producing it under the banner of Abhishek Films. Jeethu’s frequent collaborator Satheesh Kurup is the DOP and music is by Vishnu Shyam. Vinayak VS is handling the edits.

Alphonse Puthren announces Gold OTT release date

The Prithviraj-Alphonse Puthren film, which hit screens on December 1, is all set for its OTT release. The makers have announced that it will be out for streaming on Amazon Prime Video on December 29.

The film got released in theatres amidst massive hype majorly because of Alphonse Puthren’s comeback after a very long gap. It was also the the first outing of Prithviraj and Nayanthara together. There was a high level of curiosity around the film as the makers kept the plot details secret by not releasing a trailer. However, it all backfired as the film failed to live up to the massive hype. The response, right from the first day, were lukewarm and the film eventually bombed at the box office.

‘Gold’ was produced by Supriya Menon’s Prithviraj Productions and Listin Stephen of Magic Frames. Besides Malayalam, the film was also released in Tamil.

KGF, Kantara fame Vikram Mor to choreograph stunts in Malaikottai Valiban

Last day, the title of Mohanlal’s upcoming film with Lijo Jose Pellissery was revealed as ‘Malaikottai Valiban’. Along with that, the technical crew was also announced. While most of the technicians including cinematographer Madhu Neelakandan, editor Deepu Joseph and music director Prashanth Pillai have previously worked with Lijo, the director has entrusted a new collaborator to handle the action choreography.

Vikram Mor, the man behind the stunts in ‘KGF 1’, ‘Avane Srimannarayana’ and the recent blockbuster ‘Kantara’, will be choreographing the action in ‘Malaikottai Valiban’. He is debuting in Malayalam with the upcoming Tovino Thomas biggie ‘Ajayante Randaam Moshanam’.

‘Malaikottai Valiban’ is widely reported to be wrestling-based film. It will be interesting to see how Vikram Mor’s choreographs the action for Mohanlal, who interestingly is a former State level wrestling champion.

John & Mary Creative, Century Films, and Max Lab are jointly producing ‘Malaikottai Valiban’. Pre-production works for the film are currently progressing in Rajasthan and shoot is expected to begin in January.

Varisu to have a grand audio launch today

The makers of Vijay’s upcoming release are hosting a grand audio launch event for the film in Chennai today. Many big names from the industry are likely to attend the event. Since it’s held in Nehru indoor stadium, thousands of fans are also expected to throng the venue. Music director Thaman will be performing live at the event. However, the highlight of all will certainly be Vijay’s trademark speech and his kutty stories.

‘Varisu’ directed by noted Telugu filmmaker Vamshi Paidipally is getting ready up for a grand Pongal release in January, 2023. The film, produced by Dil Raju and Sirish’s Sri Venkateswara Creations and PVP Cinema, will also be releasing simultaneously in Telugu as ‘Vaarasudu’.

Touted to be a family-based mass entertainer, the film is penned by Hari and Ahishor Solomon. Rashmika Mandanna, Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Srikanth, Khusboo, Sangeetha, Shaam and Jayasudha also star in it.

Mohanlal’s next with Lijo Jose Pellissery titled Malaikottai Valiban

After a lot of teasing and buildup, the makers of Mohanlal’s upcoming film with Lijo Jose Pellissery have announced the title as ‘Malaikottai Valiban’. Pre-production works for the film are currently progressing in Rajasthan and shoot is expected to begin in January.

There are reports about it being a wrestling-based film, but an official confirmation is awaited. PS Rafeeque, who wrote Lijo’s ‘Amen’, is scripting this film as well. It will be shot by ace cinematographer Madhu Neelakandan and edited by Deepu Joseph. Prashanth Pillai, a regular in Lijo’s films, has been retained as the music director. The technical crew also includes Vikram Mor, the man behind the stunts in ‘KGF 1’ and ‘Kantara’.

Regarding the cast, there are speculations about Radhika Apte playing the female lead. If it turns out to be true, it will be her second Malayalam film after making her debut in 2014 with the Fahadh Faasil starrer ‘Haram’.

‘Malaikottai Valiban’ is produced jointly by former John & Mary Creative, Century Films, and Max Lab.

As reported earlier, Nayanthara’s horror film ‘Connect’ is set to hit screens on December 22. In Kerala, the film will be released by New Surya Films, the banner that backed the superhit film ‘Vijay Superum Pournamiyum’.

‘Connect’ directed by Ashwin Saravanan is set during the pandemic. Bollywood veteran Anupam Kher, Sathyaraj, Vinay Rai and child actor Haniya Nafisa star in important roles in the film. Last day, the makers had organised a special screening of the film in Chennai for medias. The response from the press show has been unanimously positive.

‘Connect’ is Nayanthara’s second film with Ashwin Saravanan. The two had earlier worked togther in ‘Maya’, which was also a horror thriller. Ashwin has scripted ‘Connect’ along with Kaavya Ramkumar. Manikantan Krishnamachary is the cinematographer and music is by Prithvi Chandrasekhar. Sachin Sudhakaran, and Hariharan M handle the sound design while mixing is done by Rajakrishnan MR

Ariyippu Review: A thoroughly gripping slow-burner

Mahesh Narayanan’s latest film ‘Ariyippu’, after a successful festival run, is out on Netflix. Set during the pandemic, the film revolves around a migrant couple named Hareesh (Kunchacko Boban) and Reshmi (Divyaprabha). The story happens in the outskirts of Delhi where the couple work in a medical gloves manufacturing factory. They have been trying to shift abroad, but due to the pandemic and the subsequent travel restrictions, their paper works get delayed. The conflict arrives in the form of a scandalous video featuring a woman performing a sexual act. The factory workers mistake it for Reshmi and this makes life hard for the couple. How this incident affects their life and create rifts within their relationship is the crux. But the film also has a some other interesting layers, which makes it a wholesome experience.

Though ‘Ariyippu’ is devoid of any of the so-called commercial elements, it makes for a thoroughly engaging watch. The pacing is on the slower side, but is apt for such a narrative. Mahesh Narayanan’s screenplay evolves gradually with crucial plot points at regular intervals. The film is also lifted by some brilliant performances. Both Kunchacko Boban and Divyaprabha are equally good as the couple who go through a lot of emotional turmoil. The former, who has been experimenting with his characters of late, delivers a well-measured act as Hareesh. In her debut film as a lead actress, Divyaprabha puts up a strong act, particularly towards the end. The film also has some extremely talented non-Malayali actors in it like Danish Husain, Loveleen Mishra and Faizal Malik.

‘Ariyippu’ might look like a film for serious cinephiles, but it certainly can be enjoyed by the general audience who are seeking quality content.
