Pranav Mohanlal makes a solid first impression

The news that Pranav Mohanlal is making his entry in the movies was received with high enthusiasm. They were eager to know how Pranav deals with his new career. Though fans expected to see him as an actor he chose to work behind the camera as an assistant director. Pranav is currently assisting the director Jithu Joseph for a Tamil movie Papanasham which features Kamal Haasan in the central role.

The report coming from the set indicates that Pranav is treasured by everyone in the set including Kamal Haasan. Kamal Haasan has high opinions about this up and coming talent. He said that Pranav is as hard working as his father. It is also said that Pranav does not have celebrity tantrums and likes to maintain a low profile in the set. Jeethu Joseph also remarked that Pranav is extremely down to earth and is a quick learner which makes it easy for him to communicate with him. Pranav has won the recognition of the keralites for his slightly unusual life style and hair style even before he was introduced to the film industry.

Pranav once revealed that he loves to travel in order to learn more about different lifestyles. He also finds pleasure in reading books. He abstains from smoking to keep the promise he has made to his mother which is laudable. Pranav had appeared in a few movies as a child artist such as Punarjani, Onnaman and Sagar Alias Jacky Reloaded. He even won Kerala State Award for his performance in Punarjani. But, he decided to concentrate on his studies and went to Ooty where he completed his education.

Papanasham is the Tamil version of the Malayalam mega hit movie Drishyam which had Mohanlal in the central role.  Gauthami who is the real life spouse of Kamal Haasan will also be seen in the movie as the central female character. Gauthami distanced herself from the movies due to her health issues. However, it looks like she is ready to come back with a bang through the movie. Jeethu Joseph has made it clear that the film will not have much difference from the original one except the cultural differences owing to the change of location. They are shooting for the film in Kanyakumari and in nearby places

Count down begins for hardcore Mammootty Fans as his latest movie Varsham will hit the theatres this Thursday. The movie is tailored to its final shape by the director Ranjith Shankar who also participates in the movie as the script writer. Asha Sarath will play the principal female character in the movie.

The movie unfolds the life of Venu who has returned from Gulf to lead a peaceful life with his family.  He decided to institute a finance company so as to find a regular income. His kindness and straightforwardness makes him extremely popular among the common people and his finance company slowly starts to flourish.  His finance company turns out to be a big threat to other finance companies and even his friends grow envious if his success. They plot against Venu and throws innumerable arrows of troubles at Venu. How Venu stands against them forms the rest of the story.

Mammootty has managed to secure two back to back hits with his movies Munnariyippu and Rajadhiraja. He will be definitely looking to make it to three through Varsham. Mammootty has made it clear that he has decided to be selective when it comes to films and Varsham is the first step towards it. As for Asha Sarath, this is the first time she will be seen with Mammootty and she has not shied away from expressing her happiness and said that she considered herself lucky to be paired with superstar like Mammootty. Asha Sarath began her acting through a daily soap Kumkumapoovu which was a turning point in her life. Her performance in the serial has won the attention of several leading directors and producers. Before long, she ended up doing movies and now she is busy with handful of projects. She received heap of praises for her performances in the movies like Drishyam and Zachariyayude Garbhinigal.

Another relevant female character will be portrayed by Mamta Mohandas who was seen alongside Mammootty in a couple of movies like Bus Conductor and Jawan of Vellimala. T The other actors who will join the casts are Govind Padmasurya,  T.G.Ravi,Prajwal Prasad, , Sudheer Karamana, Sunil Sukhada, Irshad,  Shivaji Guruvayoor, Sreelatha Namboothiri, Sreerag Nambiar and the others.  Manoj Pillai is assigned to handle the cinematography department. The editing department will be under the control of Sagar Das. Bijibal will assemble the music for the movie.The movie will be produced by Mammootty’s playhouse Dreams and Beyond.

It is impossible to put in words the star power of the Tamil actor Vijay. His films are nothing short of a celebration and the fact that he is in the movie guarantees success to the movie. Kaththi is the latest Vijay movie directed by Murugadoss. Let us cut to the chase and starts with the plot of the movie.

The most important aspect of the movie is the dual roles played by Vijay which would be a sort of treat for the Vijay fans since they get to see their favorite superstar even more. Vijay appears in the movie as Jeevanathan and Kathireshan. Jeevanathan is a well disciplined and good hearted person who is ready to offer his services to anyone who needs it. He is also compassionate towards farmers who are exploited by the corporate manipulators.  He also works hard to find a solution for the insufficient supply of water. This earns him a spot in the hitlist of business big shots.

Kathireshan, on the other hand, is not very keen on following the social norms and makes his living by stealing from others. He is caught redhanded by the police multiple times and is punished but he seems to be least affected by this. Kathireshan reaches Chennai with a purpose and meets his look alike Jeevanathan by accident. Kathireshan impersonates Jeevanathan so as to evade the police and starts his life as Jeevanathan.

The movie is one of the best movies Vijay has produced in the recent memory.  Murugadoss has made sure that he makes the most out of the star value of Vijay.The movie has several dialogues and scenes which are certain to get loud applause from the audience. There are numerous segments in the movie which will turn out to be a bit of surprise to the audience which is one of the positives of the movie. Murugadoss attempts to tag the issues of ordinary farmers and elderly people to the movie which attributes to the social relevance of the movie.

Vijay is the shining star of the movie and is able to draw a line of distinction between Jeevananthan and Kathiresan though his performances. Samantha looks beautiful in the movie and that seems to the point when it comes to her character. Neil Nithin Mukesh gives an above average performance as the villain of the movie. All the supporting casts are up to the scratch. To sum it all, the movie is a very good movie with all the ingredients required to please the Vijay fans.

Biju Menon and Samyuktha Varma is one of the most liked pairs on the screen in the Malayalam film industry. Fans love them so much so that Biju Menon and Samyuktha revealed that fans are the reason they ended up together in real life. But Samyuktha, who was easily on the peak of success at the time of her marriage decided to stay away from films after her marriage. She is not seen in movies ever since.

However, she appeared in a couple of advertisements quite recently. They are considered as ideal couple which could be illustrated by the fact that it is mentioned in the movie Drishyam where the male and the female protagonist describe how they complement each other so as to lead a happy married life. While fans are extremely happy to see them living a blissful life they do want highly talented actress to return to screen.  Both Biju Menon and Samyuktha have been repeatedly asked the question. Biju Menon responded to this major question from the fans in an interview allotted to the magazine Kanyaka. Biju said that it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that they see her back in movies.

He also clarified that it was Samyuktha’s decision to take a break from her career as she wanted to focus on her family especially after giving birth to their son. He also added that it is totally up to Samyuktha is she wants to return or not and that he will not have any objection, whatsoever, if she wishes to go back to film industry. He also talked about Samyuktha’s significant contributions to his career. He said that he owes the success of his career to Samyuktha since she is always by her husband’s side as a strong support system in any given circumstances.

Biju continued that Samyuktha never bothers him with family problems and handles everything on her own. Hence, he feels relaxed and is able to focus on his movies since Samyuktha is there to fulfill the family responsibilities on his behalf.  The couple worked together in movies such as Mazha, Madhuranombarakattu etc.

Njangalude Veettile Adhithikal Review

Sibi Malayil has earned a distinction among the directors for presenting valuable message through his movies. He is back with the movie Njangalude Veettile Adhithikal after an interval. The movie has Jayaram aand Priyamani in the lead roles. They are supported by the actors such as Lena, Narain Innocent, Kalabhavan Shajon, KPAC Lalitha, Sreerag Nambiar and the others.

The movie deals with the problems in the marriage caused due to the lack of understanding and trust. Advocate Manoj (which is played by Jayaram) is extremely pragmatic in his attitude towards life and gives undue importance to money. But his wife Bhavana (played by Priyamani) has exactly the opposite views on life that relies too much on books and has slightly dramatic concepts when it comes to life. Their contrasting personalities generate issues in their family life.

The only connecting factor between the couple is their daughter. Their inability to understand each others sows the seeds of insecurity in the mind of Bhavana.  Her insecurity takes a monstrous shape when they lose their daughter in an accident. She becomes somewhat convinced that her husband has been cheating on her and her unhappiness with her husband is intensified by Maya (which is played by Lena) who is alarmingly prejudiced against men.   The feeling of emptiness produced by the death of her daughter and precarious relationship with husband fosters her to do something quite shocking.   In the mean time, two strangers make an entrance to their, Rajan (played by Kalabhavan Shajon) and Raj (played by Narain) who provide the plot with a change in direction. The movie becomes more like a psychological thriller in the second half.

Expectations are always high for the Sibi Malayail but the movie cannot claim to have exceeded the expectations. The plot in general is an average one and has hardly anything new to offer. This may have something to do with the weak script which lacks insight and vigourousness. Even the psychological journey of  Bhavana goes downhill despite of having a solid introduction.

Jayaram does not have anything challenging to do in the movie but gives his best to the character. Priyamani puts on a fine performance in the movie as well.  How, it is Kalabhavan Shajon who steals the show with his performance but it is slightly blemished by the poor development of his character. Innocent, Narain and KPAC Lalitha meet up with the demands of the character. The fim is definitely unsatisfactory when rated on the usual Sibi Malayail standard.

Oh Mridule song from Dolphins Malayalam Movie

The Dolphins is an upcoming 2014 Malayalam film directed by Puthiya Mukham fame Deepan and written by Anoop Menon. The film features Superstar Suresh Gopi, Anoop Menon, Meghna Raj in the lead roles, while Madhu,Sreenivasa, Suraj Venjaranmoodu, Anil Mirali, Joju George, P.Balachandran, Nandu, Nishanth Sagar, Saiju Kurup and Kalpana feature in supporting roles.

The film is jointly produced by Arun MC and Sudeep Karat under the banner of Line of colors productions. The cinematography of the film was done by Jithu Damodar (Hotel California, London Bridge), with the editing done by Zian Sreekanth. The music of the film was composed by M. Jayachandran with Background score by Gopi Sunder. The film is scheduled to release on November 2014.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was a career milestone not just for the king of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan but also to Kajol who could make the legitimate claim of being the Queen of Bollywood after the movie was released.  However, her fans were left in utter disappointment when she decided to put an abrupt halt to her Bollywood journey so as to take her responsibility as an ideal wife and mother.  They have been patiently waiting for her to return to movies ever since her last movie My Name is Khan and if the sources are to be believed they may not have to wait any longer as she is preparing to return to movies in the near future.

According to the latest reports, Kajol is booked to play the lead role in the Hindi remake of Malayalam movie How Old are You opposite her real life husband Ajay Devgan. The original Malayalam movie was also in the news because the movie witnessed the much anticipated return of Manju Warrier who also left the film industry for family. Earlier, there was a heresy that Kajol may come back for a Movie which was inspired by popular Norwegian show Penoza but the project seems to have failed to make further developments.  It is said the Ajay Devgan is responsible for Kajol’s comeback. Ajay Devgan fell in love with the concept of the movie and has decided to earn the copy rights to remake the movie in Hindi.

He then suggested his wife to play the lead role and Kajol found the plot interesting enough to say yes.   The film is thoroughly a female oriented movie which guarantees Kajol a multitude of opportunities to showcase her natural acting skills. The movie tells the story of a married woman who is looked down upon even by her husband and daughter. She gets a are opportunity to meet the president of India but she messes it up.  She becomes a laughing stock for others which make her life more miserable. But she gradually realizes that she is holding back her true identity for her family and that her true self is lost somewhere after her marriage. She makes up her mind to reinvent herself and starts following her instincts.

Finally she along with her family get to meet the president for the second time. At the end she earns the respect of others including her husband and daughter and go on to lead a happy family life with new found respect from the family. Ajay Devgan will play the role of her husband which is an added bonus for ten fans who admire this real life couple.

Happy New Year Review

It is hard not to get vibes of excitement when it comes to Shahrukh Khan Movies. Happy New Year can be rightfully considered as his Diwali present to the fans. The movie is about Chandramohan Sharma aka Charlie (Shah Rukh Khan) who has a haunted past. His father had committed suicide after being accused of robbery. Later Charlie realizes that the case against father was fabricated by Charan Grover (played by Jackie Shroff) and from then on, Charlie’s mission of life is to avenge his father by destroying the life of Charan.  Charlie comes to know about certain diamonds which is now in the possession of Charan Grower.  He also learns that the diamonds are under high protection in Dubai.

Charlie makes the decision to get hold of the diamonds and spends time in devising a perfect plan for that. He knows that he will not be able to do it all by himself therefore he approaches a bunch of others to accompany him in the mission.  They are Jag (played by Sonu Sood), Tammy (played by Boman Irani) and Rohan (played by Vivaan Shah). They realize that they will need Charan’s son Vikki (played by Abhishek Bachan) to get diamonds. But to his luck, Charlie finds a man named Nandu who looks exactly like Vikki and he becomes a part of the team.

They are informed about the world dance competition which will endow them with a perfect opportunity to implement their plans. But the biggest problem is that they are not very good at dance and has little to no hope to make it to the competition on their own. Therefore, they seek the help of Mohini (played by Deepika Padukone) who works in a bar as a dancer. She agrees to teach them and they enter into the competition as the representatives of India. A series of interesting events that takes place during the competition gives the backbone to the story.

The combination of Shahrukh Khan and Farah Khan has always successful in producing audience pleasing movies.  It is difficult to answer if Happy New Year is good enough to be included in this category. The film is equidistant from being a good entertainer and a glorious demonstration of an unrealistic story.  It shows traces of artistry but it loses its steam at some points. It does have some moments which may leave the audience open mouthed but  it feels too far away from reality.

The story of the movie deals with the overused subject of revenge. The movie is not dull in the sense that Farah has made the film as colorful as she can with numerous song-dance sequences and interesting hi-tech robbery scenes. The movie is exceedingly dependent on Shahrukh Khan. However, Shahrukh Khan is too familiar with these situations and handles it properly in the movie.  He remains the high point throughout the movie. Deepika Padukone gives an excellent performance as a devil may care girl. Abhishek Bachchan is one of the characters in the movie that create genuine laughs in the movie. The performances from the other cast are also satisfactory. Altogether; Happy New Year is an average movie with some high and low points.

Shahid Kapoor has been going through career fluctuations as his movies failed to perform at box office consistently. While some of his movies did fair business at box office some of the movies did not pass the muster at least in Bollywood standards. This could have played a role in Shahid’s decision to reduce the number of films and to focus more on his characters.

Shahid Kapoor’s 2014 release Haider was hyped to the sky which was upgraded by its stirring trailers. Haider certainly has lived up to the hype and is reportedly on its way to become one of the super duper hits of 2014. The film got a wide release on r 1250 screens which itself is a huge milestone for the movie.  Let us start with the opening day collection of the movie. The estimated collection for the opening day was around 6.14 crores. The fact that it was a national holiday definitely has helped the movie to secure this solid number. The encouraging response film received resulted in a sheep increase in the collection in the following  friday making it to 6.93 crores  and the third day witnessed the gratifying  number of 6.38 crores though it saw a decline from the previous day collection.

This makes the initial three day collection of the movie   around 19.45 crores which is definitely one of the best figures in 2014.  The overall box office amassment of the movie in India is approximately 58 crores while the gross collection of the movie is 76 crores which consist of entertainment tax. The film maintained its excellent numbers in overseas as well. It has collected around 6.4 crores in Canada and USA. The next best number comes from UAE and other Arabian countries with a collection of 4 crores.  It also has delivered well in UK with 1.86 crores.

Haider is a revenge drama directed by Vishal Bharadwaj with Shahid Kapoor playing the title role Haider.It is said that the plot of the movie avails itself of one of the most popular play written by none than Shakespeare himself by the name Hamlet which is moderated so as to fit into our modern life situations. Shraddha Kapoor plays the female protagonist in the movie where as Tabu plays mother to Shahid Kapoor. Kay Kay Menon gives life to the central antagonist of the movie. Another important factor of the movie is Irfan Khan. The film gives an account of a young man who goes through a life full of turbulence and despondency after learning about his father’s death.  The movie was highly praised both by the audience and the critics; especially the performances of Shahid Kapoor and the other leading actors in the movie have won the hearts of audiences and the critics.
