Jithu Joseph on working with Kamal Haasan

0

It is no longer unpublished that Jithu Joseph is currently working with Kamal Haasan for his upcoming movie named Paapanaasham. Jithu Joseph is on cloud nine after receiving an opportunity to direct one of the finest actors not just in Indian film industry but in the world film industry. Jithu Joseph has not shied away from sharing his experiences with Kamal Haasan.

Jithu Joseph said that he was extremely conscious as he was well aware of the person he is dealing with. He remarked that Kamal Haasan is an absolute storehouse of knowledge about the world of cinema. But Jithu also added that Kamal Haasan never interfered in the process of direction and was more than willing to abide by the instructions of director.

Paapanasham is the Tamil remake of Malayalam movie Drishyan which starred Mohanlal in the lead role. Drishyam is deemed one of the biggest box office hits in the history of Malayalam film industry and the best film to be produced in the recent memory.  The movie tells the story of a common man whose world starts and ends with his family consisting of his wife and two daughters. But, an unexpected turn of events alters their lives for ever and the plot narrates how he, like a true family man, shields his family from the predicament and how his family stays united in the midst of crisis.

Gauthami, who is the spouse of Kamal Haasan, will replace Meena as the female protagonist of the movie.  Fans are excited to see how the offscreen chemistry of the couple will work out in the movie. The movie would mark the comeback of Gauthami who decided to take a long break from the movie when she was the peak of fame with a handful of superhit movies. Esther, who portrayed the youngest daughter both in the original and Kannada remake, will play the role in Tamil remake also. However, Niveda Thomas will portray the eldest daughter which was originally played by Ansiba Hassan. Asha Sarath will re enact the ole of the police official as she did in the original and Kalabhavan Mani will fill in the shoes of main antagonist taking over form Kalabhavan Shajon.

Another interesting note with regard to the Tamil remake is that Mohanlal’s son Pranav Mohanlal is working in the movie as the assistant director which created a lot of buzz.Kannada remake of the movie took the box office with a storm as in the case of Malayalam original and Jithu Joseph and the entire cast and crew of Tamil remake is expecting to dig gold from this remake as well.

Prithviraj in Shyamaprasad’s big budget movie Ivide

0

Shyama Prasad has earned the respect from fans for his audacity to come up with experimental movies. His movies deviate from the path of conventional and ordinary and travel in a path untaken by anyone. Shyama Prasad is planning a big budget movie with Prithviraj in the main role. The movie is titled Ivide and will be shot in America with the assistance from technical experts from Hollywood.

Prithviraj will play the role of Police officer in the movie. This would not be the first time Prithviraj plays the role of a police officer. He has made an everlasting impression in the minds of audiences with his incredible performances as police officer in a number of movies including Memories and Mumbai Police.  Nivin Pauly and Bhavana will join Prithviraj to play other main characters of the movie. Aju Varghese, perhaps one of the busiest actors right now will also be the part of the movie, Tamil actor YG Mahendran is the other important name to be involved in the movie.

It was heavily rumored that Fahad Fazil will team up with Prithviraj for the movie. However, it was revealed later that Fahad Fazil is not the part of the movie and that the character will be played by Nivin Pauly. There were also speculations about the main female protagonist of the movie. Nyla Usha who was seen in the recent releases like Punyavalan Agarbathis and Gangster was the name that was previously circulated for the female lea of the movie. Apparently, this is also turned out to be false as Bhavana will play the role in the movie.

Stills from actor’s workshop at Crown Plaza Cochin

Prithviraj and Shyamaprasad teamed out before for the film Akale which also featured yesteryear actress Sheela and Geethu Mohanda. ShyamaPrasad had organized a workshop at Kochi for the cast which the cast had enthusiastically attended and they will start shooting the movie on November. The script of the movie is arranged by Ajayan Venugopal and the finance department is managed by Dharmik Banners. The estimated production cost of the movie is around 9 Crores. The movie is considered to be a crime thriller paired with romance.

As per the latest reports the movie will have its release in February. With Shyama Prasad does not seem to view the movies in commercial perspective doing a big budget movie, it would be interesting to see how he deals with this big budget movie. But we are certain to get yet another one of a kind movie from the creative genius.

Haider Review

0

Haider is an ambitious project of Shahid Kapoor which released on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2014 and is the latest movie directed by Vishal Bharadwaj. Shahid was immersed in the movie so much so that he refused to commit to other movies so that he can devote all his time to the movie. Shahid appears in the movie as Haider which also is the title of the movie. Shraddha Kapoor who is soon becoming a mainstream actress plays the female lead in the movie. Tabu also makes an appearance in the movie as Shahid’s mother whereas Kay Kay Menon is the ultimate villain of the movie.

The story gives a detailed description of the life of Haider (which is played by Shahid Kapoor).   The movie has its root in the Kashmir civil war. Dr. Hilaal Meer is a good hearted person and treats a critically injured military. But, he is held captive for the same reason and no one has heard from him ever since.  His son is devastated following the mysterious disappearance of his father. Despite of sparing no effort to find his father he is unable to find him. In the mean time his mother Ghazala which is played by Tabu marries her brother in law Khurram due to the circumstances. Haider finds it hard to accept his uncle in the place of his father and continues to search his father.

His search leads him to a man named Roohdar portrayed by Irfan Khan who is an active participant in the separatist groups who confides in him the truth that his father was back stabbed to death by his own uncle in order to mary his mother Ghazala. He also reveals that his father wanted his son to take revenge on his uncle for him. Haider makes a resolution to take vengeance on his uncle for his father’s murder and starts making plans to kill him. But Khurram who comes to know about his intentions tell him that he is seriously misled and the original murder of his father is not him but Roohdar himself. Haider gets confused since he is not certain as to who is speaking the truth. But, later he is convinced that his uncle is in fact the real murderer and tries to kill him but is unsuccessful in doing so because of various reasons.

His fixation with taking revenge comes with a huge price as he loses his girl friend who takes her own life after realizing that Haider has killed her father Pervez Lone who acted as an informer to Khurram. Haider makes up his mind to kill his uncle near his father’s graveyard with the assistance from Roohdaar. Khurram uses his hired men to fight Haider. Ghazala becomes aware of the plan and dashes to the place along with Roohdar. She implores to her son to stop thinking about revenge. She makes desperate attempt to make him understand that revenge is something that has no end and it cannot be beneficial to anyone not even to the avenger as the only thing revenge knows is utter destruction.

Haider does not heed to his mother and proceeds with his plan. But he is flabbergasted when he learns that his mother is wearing a vest containing explosives. He tries to stop his mother but is too late for that. She dies and Khurram who approaches her to prevent her from committing suicide loses his legs .Haider who survives the explosion has a momentary desire to finish his uncle off backs out and leaves the place inorder to fulfill his mother’s last wish. However, Khurram pays for his actions since he is forced to live a miserable life with a disabled body and the burden of guilt.

This is the third movie by Vishal Bharadwaj with the Shakespearean concept as the main plot. Though the movie is a modified version of Hamlet the movie does show traces of novelty in its presentation. The back ground of Kashmir fights gifts the movie with another layer of depth. But the real strength of the movie is its cast which cast who has given such amazing performances that it is nearly impossible to point out as to who is the best performer in the movie.

Shahid Kapoor puts his best foot forward in order to display the complexities which his character Haider goes through. Tabu has gives one of the best performances in her career as Ghazala. KayKay Menon offers a fine drawn picture of the devil hidden behind his calm face with his flawless performance. Shraddha Kapoor gets ten on ten for interpreting a defenseless girlfriend who thirsts for a peaceful life with Haider but finds herself lost in the revenge.  Irfan Khan puts his signature on Roohdar with his peerless acting skills.  The other supporting cast also matches up to the high standard set by the key actors in the movie. The movie is certainly laudable for its unusual treatment and the cast and therefore is highly recommendable.

Ithihasa Review

0

The movie Ithihasa is a new entry to the genre of fantasy. The film marks the debut id the director Binu S. The plot goes like this.   The male protagonist Alby (played by Shine Tom Chacko) is a thief who is happy go lucky person. He has a partner in crime named Vikku (played by Balu Varghese). They are least bothered about their future and their sole priority is to have as much as fun as possible. However, things change slightly when Alby falls in love with Janaki (played by Aushree) who is an IT pofessional. Alby discovers a pair of rings which he and Janaki wear not knowing what is in store for them. They have the worst morning of their lives when they wake up to realize that they have unknowingly exchanges their bodies with each other due to the magical power hidden in the rings. While Alby finds it impossible t lead a life of a girl Janaki strives hard to cope with the uncouth lifestyle of a young man.  It is explained that the ring actually was used by a king almost 100 years ago to ensure victory against his rival in a war. The movie deals with the halabaloo and chaos caused by this unprecedented change of gender.

Though the plot is not exceptional and has a foreseeable ending the treatment of the plot is something refreshing.  Unlike some fantasy movies which present a complicated series of events this movie has a simple plot with humour as the predominant factor. The tensed atmosphere caused by gender exchange provides audience with some good moments of laughter barring some gender related jokes which is slightly indecent and prejudiced.

The director Binus S makes a brilliant use of Kochi slang to produce some comedy sequences without making it look objectionable. But on the whole, the comic elements in the movie are good enough to keep the audience engaged and lively.  Anushree deserves a special mention for portraying the transformation from a simple innocent young girl to a disorganized young man convincingly. Shine Tom Chacko also fares well in his character without overdoing his facial expressions for dialogues.  Balu who plays another integral role is pure fun to watch with his perfect comedy timing and excellent dialogue rendering. Joy Mathew, Nobi, Sunil Sukhada and Binoy do justice to their characters even though they have relatively small roles to play.

The climax seems to be too predictable to amaze anyone. It could have better if the climax as endowed with a twist or surprise and the editing needs improvement. However, considering this is the first film by Binu S he has done a commendable job. The film gets a pass for the brilliant humour throughout the movie.

Asha Black Review

0

Asha Black is the first directorial work of John Robinson which has a youth centered theme. The director revealed that the story struck his mind following an actual incident occurred in the life of a teenage girl. The film has Arjun Lal who was last seen in the movie Thanmathra where he shared the screen with Mohanlal.

The movie embarks on the unseen dangers of internet friendships and how it can disintegrate you life and yourself. Ishita plays the love interest of Arjun in the movie.  Arjun enacts the role of Rohit who manages a music band in Coimbatore. He has girlfriend by the name Asha Black whose whereabouts are not known to him. He has not even got an opportunity to meet her as she is in Malaysia. But, finally he is done with waiting and he goes to Malaysia just to meet her. But his visit to Malaysia does not exactly turn out to be a romantic trip as he  comes across bewildering experiences and concealed secrets about his lady love. Sarath Kumar, Devan and Manoj Kumar takes part in the movie as other important roles in the movie.  The movie is dubbed in Tamil as well.

John Robinson seems to have created the movie with a good intention nod delivering a strong message to society. But the film is a poor demonstration of the message as the story has no depth and intensity. The second interval is annoying dragged and beat around the bush which makes it hard to keep our interest alive. Though the movie has an undertone of suspense, everything becomes too obvious much earlier to wait for the climax with bated breath. Even a small kid can foresee where the film is leading us to.

Arjun got highly positive reviews from the fans for his performance in Thanmathra. It was his brilliance in the movie that made fans talk about his character as much as they talked about the main character. In fact, it would not be an exaggeration to say that a good portion of the fans went to watch Asha Black because they expected something huge from this up and coming actor as he was coming back to screen after a break. But, to the fans dismay, Arjun lal has made a poor choice for the come back as the film has nothing extraordinary as compared to Thanmathra. Even his performance seems to be a step down from his previous one.

Ishita, however, fares well as Asha Black who goes through various emotions in the movie. Sarath Kumar, Manoj and Devan limp walk through their characters owing to the lack of extremeness in their characters. It they had not the practical knowledge solid enough to cover up for the weakness of the characters, nothing could have saved them from being mundane and irrelevant. Asha Black dashes the hopes of the audience who had put their confidence in this movie.

Homely Meals Review

Anoop Kannan looks to come back with a bang after his film Jawan of Vellimala failed t o create vibes at Box office. The movie features a young talent Vipin Atley in the lead role who also takes part in the movie as a scriptwriter.

The movie tells the story if a educated young man-Alan (Vipin Atley)- whose ambition is to make his presence felt in visual media and cinema. He conceptualized a new idea which could be used for TV programmes. He shares his idea with Sajith (Kailash) who works for a channel managed by CEO who is also a priest Fr. Dixon. Sajith convinces the channel heads to carry on with the idea and the first episode goes in air but Sajith back stabs his friend and claims that it was his idea. However, Sajith fails to come up with ideas for their second episode and CEO Father Dixon Calls Allan and entrust him with the responsibility of organizing the next episode. However, the head of the programmes Sarath Chandran (Manoj K Jayan) develops a strong feeling of dislike for various reasons and uses his power to stop Allan from filming the next episode. Alan’s determination and assistance from as group of gangsters lead by Palarivattom Mosappan (Rajesh Sharma) who consider him as their good friend aid him in completing the episode. Shrinda plays the female lead in the movie who appears in the movie as Nanditha who is a news reader. Sudheer Karamana, Joju, Sabitha Anand forms the other cast of the movie.

The concept of the movie lacks novelty as the plot has been made the main thread in numerous movies like Udayananu Tharam.  Anoop Kannan had definitely made an attempt to make his film look different from others but at various points the movie shows obvious resemblances with Udayananu Tharam.   Atley’s script shows lack of experience even though it is surprisingly good at various occasions. the story happens in 2002; we come across modern technology at some points which is a serious character. However, one of the positives of the movie is its hero who has nothing traditional in his character and Atley seems to be appropriate for the character. Shrinda unfortunately has nothing much to do in the movie but she does her part well. Mano K. Jayan’s character seems to have certain stereotypical villain traits but his outstanding acting capabilities saves it from being bored. Nedumudi Venu provides us with some comic sequences and he beautifully picturises a priest who tries to balance his religious faiths and his duties as a CEO. Rajesh Sharma certainly has impressed everyone with his performance as a gangster.

Altogether, The movie is an average one with sparks of brilliance here and there but fails to maintain it to the end.

Sapthamashree Thaskaraha Review

0

The name Sapthamashree Thaskaraha is suggestive of the movie main thread. The plot takes its life from seven thieves who gets imprisoned for various reasons.  The group consists of Krishnanunni (played by Prithviraj), Narayanan kutty (played by Neeraj Madhav), Shabab (played by Asif Ali ) Noble (played by Nedumudi Venu), Martin (played by Chemban Vinod), Leaf Vasu (played by Sudheer Karamana)  and Salaam Baasha  (played by Salaam Bukhan). They are the victims of circumstances in one form or the other they establish a healthy bond with each other.

We get a vivid idea about the seven characters through the confessions made by Martin to a priest (played by Lijo Jose Pallissery) While reflecting their past, Krishnanunni and Noble discover that they have the same enemy in Pious (played by Joy Mathew) who is responsible for their plight. Noble discloses something to them that could ensure financial security to them. In addition to that, Krishnanunni and Noble take it as an opportunity to avenge themselves on Pious (They agree to work together as a team and they start working on the mission in Noble’s house after being released from Jail. As they make advancement with the mission they are welcomed by a series of surprises and shocks. Reenu Mathews plays the female lead and is introduced in the movie as Krishnanunni’s wife. Sanusha plays another important female character who works as a nurse. Mukundan and Ishad also make their presence felt in the movie as villainous characters in the movie.

The movie is a comedy entertainment twined with a modified tone of suspense thriller. However, it is the humour that stands apart. In lieu of polished dialogues, director Anil Radhakrishnan opts for colloquial languages that are often used for our casual conversations .  The abundant use of Thrissur slang is another positive of the movie augment the originality of the dialogues. All the seven actors who portrayed the seven protagonists have delivered flawless performances. Prithviraj has his share of humour but without affecting the seriousness of his character and probably that would been the biggest challenge for Prithviraj in the movie . Chemban Vinod deserves special mention as he is the true surprise package in the movie.

Despite of having a serious idea of revenge in the movie do not have stereotypical action stunts where hero gets the better of villain at last leaving the antagonist in the pool of blood. Krishnanunni and Noble do intend to take revenge on Pious but in a completely different method.  The cameo played by Lijo Jose Pellissery is pretty entertaining and it is a pleasant surprise to know that Lijo is not just a good director but a good actor as well. The only drawback of the movie is that at a few occasions it does exhibit characteristic similarities with some of the other movies. But it is pardonable as those similarities are comparatively negligible in its quantity. Sapthamashree Thaskaraha is a memorable gift from Anil Radakrishnan on this Season.

Bhaiyya Bhaiyya Review

0

Bhaiyya Bhaiyya is the latest Johny Antony’s multi starrer movie with one of the hottest duo now Kunchako Boban and Biju Menon. The plot has its foundation on the topic of Bengali workers who settles in Kerala in search for jobs.  The   narration of the story depends heavily on the soliloquy of Babumon (played by Kunchako Boban). Babumon lives by providing workers including Bengali workers for the needy people. He has a brotherly affection towards a man who also happens to have the name Babu ( Biju menon). He is a Bengali by birth but has been living in Kerala since he was a child.

The major development in the story happen with the unfortunately death of a Bengali workers. They decide to take this body to his home in Bengal. But they are not alone in the journey as they are joined by few others who take the journey for various  reasons. The team includes Angel (played Nisha Agarwal) who actually run aay from he home so as to unite with her longtime boyfriend Babu. Then, there is Soman who just wants to explore Bengal and finally Santhi (played by Vinutha lal) who is a tamil native and chooses to travel with them for the monetary reasons. But their journey seems  to be more like  an adventure as they encounters with several unprecedented incidents.

The Director Johny Antony and script writer Benny P. Nayarambalam try their best to make this journey as interesting as possible. There are several moments which guarantees  genuine laughs from the audience. But, there is a serious drawback in the movie which is the presentation of the main thread. The introduction of the movie gives us the feeling that we may get a more detailed investigation into the lives if Bengali workers who is forced to leave their homeland  so as to make a living. But, the movie only give a superficial picture of these workers and is not dealt with the expected seriousness.
