Aishwarya Lekshmi and Samantha in talks for Dulquer Salmaan’s King of Kotha

We had earlier reported about Dulquer Salmaan starring in ‘King of Kotha’, which marks the directorial debut of veteran filmmaker Joshiy’s son Abhilash Joshiy. Dulquer’s own production house Wayfarer Films is producing the film, pre-production works for which are already underway. The makers are currently in the process of finalising the cast and crew.

For the female lead’s role, they are in talks with Aishwarya Lekshmi and Samantha. Speculations about Samantha’s casting started doing the rounds only recently. If she signs the film, it will mark her Malayalam debut. However, we learn that Aishwarya Lekshmi is most likely to bag the project.

‘King of Kotha’ scripted by Abilash N Chandran of ‘Porinju Mariam Jose’ fame is planned as an action-packed mass entertainer. The earlier-released first look poster had Dulquer in a rugged-mass look holding a gun. Reportedly, Abhilash Joshiy is planning to follow the footsteps of his father, who is best known for helming such big-scale commercial entertainers.

Rosshan Andrrews likely to make his Bollywood debut with Shahid Kapoor

If reports are to be believed, Malayalam filmmaker Rosshan Andrrews is set to make his entry to Bollywood. The director is planning to make his Hindi debut with a thriller film starring Shahid Kapoor. Siddharth Roy Kapur, one of the leading producers in B-Town, is backing the project. Reportedly, the makers have already begun the pre-production and will go on floors soon. Shahid is currently in the process of sorting out his shooting dates.

Rosshan Andrrews, known for helming several hit films like ‘Udayananu Tharam’, ‘Mumbai Police’, ‘How Old Are You’ and ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’. He made his Tamil debut in 2015 with ’36 Vayadhinile’, the remake of ‘How Old Are You’. His last release was the Dulquer Salmaan-starrer ‘Salute’.

The filmmaker is best known for his 2013-film ‘Mumbai Police’. Ever since its release, there have been speculations about it getting remade in various languages, including Hindi. It remains to be seen if the upcoming Shahid Kapoor project is the remake of ‘Mumbai Police’.

Meanwhile, Rosshan next has a film with Nivin Pauly lined up for release. Rumoured to be titled ‘Saturday Nights’, the film also stars Malavika Sreenath, Siju Wilson, Aju Varghese, Saiju Kurup, and Saniya Iyappan.

Pathonpathaam Noottandu release plans announced; Trailer on its way

Director Vinayan’s ambitious period film ‘Pathonpathaam Noottandu’ is gearing up for Onam release. The makers announced it recently with a new poster. Along with that, they also informed that the film’s trailer will be out on August 15.

The film has Siju Wilson playing the lead role of Arattupuzha Velayudha Panicker, an Ezhava chieftain. It tells the story of Panicker, who was the first martyr of the Kerala Renaissance movement. Made on a big scale, ‘Pathonpathaam Noottandu’ has a huge ensemble of supporting actors. Chemban Vinod essays the role of Kayamkulam Kochunni. Kayadu Lohar, Anoop Menon, Deepti Sati, Sudheer Karamana, Suresh Krishna, Sudev Nair, Jaffer Idukki, Senthil Krishna, Bibin George, Biju Pappan, Indrans, Poonam Bajwa, ‘Joseph’ fame Madhuri Braganza and many others are part of the film.

Gokulam Gopalan is producing the big-budget film, that has songs composed by M Jayachandran and cinematography by Shaji Kumar. Tamil composer Santhosh Narayanan is reportedly handling the background score.

Kunchacko Boban’s new film ‘Ariyippu’ directed by had its world premiere at the 75th Locarna International Film Festival on August 4. It was the opening film in the competition segment. The team members including Kunchacko Boban, Mahesh Narayanan, actress Divya Prabha and producer Shebin Becker attended the screening.

Kunchacko Boban, who is also one of the producers of the film, took to his social media handle to pen a long note out of his excitement. He thanked all the team members who were involved in the making of ‘Ariyippu’.

His post reads,

When Malayalam roared at the 75th Locarno International Film Festival.
“ARIYIPPU” had its world premiere as the opening movie in the competition segment today in Locarno Film Festival before a packed house of nearly 2500 people from all across the world.The huge round of applause from the audience when the movie ended and the appreciation during the Q&A was just more than what dreams are made of!!!

We had earlier reported about Bollywood star John Abraham making his debut in Malayalam industry as a producer. His banner JA Entertainment is backing a new film titled ‘Mike’. It has ‘Thanneermathan Dhinangal’ fame Anaswara Rajan and debutant Ranjith Sajeev as the leads. Vishnu Sivaprasad is directing the film.

Recently, its trailer got released and looks highly promising. Anaswara plays a tomboyish character in the film. The trailer gives hints about the challenges faced by her character after a sex reassignment surgery. The young actress looks assured and solid with her performance. The film is scripted by Aashiq Akbar Ali.

On the technical front, the makers of ‘Mike’ have got ‘Hridayam’ fame Hesham Abdul Wahab as the music director. National award-winner Vivek Harshan is handling the edits and cinematography is by Renadive, who has cranked the camera for films like ‘Comrade in America’, ‘Vijay Superum Pournamiyum’ and ‘Shylock’.

‘Mike’ is set to hit screens on August 19.

Director Shankar’s daughter Aditi to play the female lead in Sivakarthikeyan’s Maaveeran

We had recently reported about Sivakarthikeyan teaming up with National award winner Madonne Ashwin of ‘Mandela’ fame for an action-thriller titled ‘Maaveeran’. Filmmaker Shankar’s daughter Aditi has been signed as the female lead. The actress is making her debut with the upcoming Karthi starrer ‘Viruman’.

‘Maaveeran’ went on floors recently. Director Shankar was the chief guest at the event. The film also stars filmmaker Mysskin and veteran actress Saritha in prominent roles. The latter is making her comeback to Tamil cinema after a long gap with this film. It has music by Bharath Sankar, cinematography by Vidhu Ayyanna and editing by Philomin Raj.

Shanthi Talkies is producing ‘Maaveeran’, which has been planned as a Tamil-Telugu bilingual. It is titled as ‘Mahaveerudu’ in Telugu.

Recently on the 8th anniversary of ‘Jigarthanda’, Karthik Subbaraj had announced a second part for the film. Though the director didn’t reveal any details about the cast, it is learnt that Raghava Lawrence will be playing the lead role in ‘Jigarthanda 2’. Bobby Simha, who was part of the orginal, is also expected to be retained in the new film. It is not yet known if it will be a spiritual sequel or an exact continuation of the first part.

‘Jigarthanda’ starring Siddharth and Bobby Simha is a gangster comedy, which became a huge success during the time of its release. Bobby Simha won a National Award for his performance as gangster Assault Sethu in the film. It later got remade in Kannada under the same title. The Telugu version titled ‘Gaddalakonda Ganesh’ starred Varun Tej and Atharvaa. In Hindi, the film recently got remade as ‘Bachchhan Paandey’ with Akshay Kumar and Kriti Sanon playing the leads.

‘Godfather’, the Telugu remake of Mohanlal’s Godfather is nearing its final stages of shoot. Starring Chiranjeevi in the lead, the film is directed by Mohan Raja. Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is playing a cameo role, which was done by Prithviraj in the original. The Telugu version has been tweaked to a certain extent to make it appealing to the native audience. As part of it, the makers recently shot a song sequence featuring Chiranjeevi and Salman. Prabhudheva choreographed the song, which is expected to be featured in the post-credits portions. Thaman, who recently won a National award, is composing music for the film.

‘Lucifer’, released in 2019, was a political thriller, which turned out to be a huge success. Actor Prithviraj made his directorial debut with the film and it was scripted by Murali Gopy. The film is getting a second part titled ‘Empuraan’ and the makers currently working on its pre-production.

‘Godfather’ has Nayanthara essaying the role done by Manju Warrier and Satyadev is reprising Tovino’s role from the original.
The film is bankrolled by NVR Cinema, Megaa Super Good Films and Konidela Productions. It has been confirmed as a Dussehra release.

Fahadh Faasil celebrates his 40th birthday in style

Fahadh Faasil celebrated his 40th birthday last day. His wife, actress Nazriya shared photos of the cake cutting in her social media handles. Later in the day, photos of a family beach outing were also shared online.

On the work front, Fahadh is currently on a high after the phenomenal success of ‘Vikram’ and the response for his recent release ‘Malayankunju’. The latter, produced by his father Fazil, is set to have its digital premiere on Amazon Prime Video on August 11.

Fahadh also has multiple other projects lined up in his kitty. In Tamil, he has ‘Maamannan’ coming up with Mari Selvaraj. He is reportedly playing the antagonist in the film, which also stars Udayanidhi Stalin, Keerthy Suresh and Vadivelu.

Fahadh is also part of Pushpa’s second part, ‘Pushpa: The Rule’, in which he will be reprising his role of Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat. In Malayalam, the actor’s next release will be Paachuvum Albhuthavilakkum, directed by Sathyan Anthikad’s son Akhil Sathyan. The film has been confirmed as a December release.

Apart from this, Fahadh is also co-producing two Malayalam films, ‘Thankam’ and ‘Paalthu Janwar’, along with Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran.

We had earlier confirmed that Netflix is making a documentary on Nayanthara’s journey that lead to her wedding with filmmaker Vignesh Shivan. It has been titled as ‘Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale’ and its promo video is out. Gautham Menon has directed the project for Netflix. The promo video features snippets of Nayanthara thanking everyone for the love and Vignesh Shivan talking about his adulation for his wife.

The couple got married in a posh resort in Chennai on June 9. It was an intimate wedding with only their close friends and select guests attending. Shah Rukh Khan, Rajinikanth, AR Rahman, Suriya and Jyotika were some of the big names who attended the wedding.

Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan first collaborated for ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’, which was the latter’s sophomore directorial. They most recently worked together in ‘Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal’, also starring Vijay Sethupathi and Samantha.

Currently, Vignesh Shivan is prepping up for his next with Ajith. Nayanthara’s upcoming slate includes projects in Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi and Telugu. She is making her Bollywood debut with ‘Jawan’, co-starring Shah Rukh Khan and directed by Atlee.

She will also be seen in a prominent role in Chiranjeevi’s ‘Godfather’. In Tamil, the actress has ‘Connect’ directed by Ashwin Saravanan and a new film with Jayam Ravi. She is also the femald lead in the Prithviraj-Alphonse Puthren film, ‘Gold’.
