Mysskin’s Pisasu 2 starring Andrea and Vijay Sethupathi gets a release date

We had earlier reporting about Andrea Jeremiah starring in director Mysskin’s upcoming film ‘Pisasu 2’. Though it is not a sequel to the director’s 2014 film ‘Pisasu’, this is also an horror flick. The makers have announced August 31 as the release date.

Along with Andrea, ‘Pisasu 2’ also has Vijay Sethupathi appearing in a cameo role. The actor is said to be playing a doctor named John in the film. He recently dubbed for his portions. The film also stars ‘Psycho’ fame Rajkumar Pitchumani and Shamna Kasim in major roles.

Maestro Ilaiyaraja’s son Karthik Raja is composing music for this film. It is produced by Muruganandham under the banner of Rockfort Entertainment

‘Pisasu 2’ is shot primarily in Tamil, but will also dubbed and released in three other languages — Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Gautham Menon and Dulquer Salmaan reunite

The makers of Dulquer Salmaan’s upcoming trilingual film ‘Sita Ramam’ have been releasing character posters. Last day, they shared a poster featuring Gautham Vasudev Menon. He plays a character named Major Selvan in the film. This is second outing with Dulquer after sharing screen in ‘Kannum Kannum Kollai Adithaal’.

‘Sita Ramam’ is by Telugu filmmaker Hanu Raghavapudi of ‘Padi Padi Leche Manasu’ fame. The film is touted to be a period love story. It has Dulquer playing an army officer named Lieutenant Ram. Mrunal Thakur is paired with Dulquer in the film. Rashmika Mandanna essays another important role named Afreen.

Swapna Cinema is producing ‘Sita Ramam’ and Priyanka Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies will be presenting it. As confirmed by the makers, the film is slated to hit screens on August 5.

First glimpse from Vishnu Vishal’s Gatta Kusthi out

Last day, actor Vishnu Vishal celebrated his birthday. On this special occasion, the makers of his upcoming film ‘Gatta Kusthi’ shared a glimpse video. It begins by showing Vishnu as a rural guy and later presenting him as a professional wrestler.

Directed by Chella Ayyavu, ‘Gatta Kusthi’ is a wrestling-based entertainer. It is made as a Tamil-Telugu bilingual. Vishnu Vishal Studio is jointly producing the film along with Telugu actor and Ravi Teja’s RT Teamworks. Malayalam actress Aishwarya Lekshmi plays the female lead in the film. It has music scored by Justin Prabhakaran, cinematography by Richard M Nathan, and editing by Prasanna GK.

Vishnu Vishal also has Mohandas, a revenge thriller coming up. A glimpse video from that film was also released last day.

Dhanush’s Captain Miller to be an action film set in 1930s

It was recently announced that Dhanush will be teaming up with Arun Matheswaran for ‘Saani Kaayidham’ and ‘Rocky’ fame for a film titled ‘Captain Miller’. The announcement was made with a kickass motion poster. It is learnt that the film has been planned as a big scale period action-adventure film set in the 30s and 40s. The makers are planning to shoot the film across the country. Production will kick-start in August.

‘Captain Miller’ has GV Prakash composing music for the film and Shreyaas Krishna as the cinematographer. Malayalam actors Vinayakan and Aishwarya Lekshmi are rumoured to be part of the cast, but a confirmation is still awaited.

Dhanush meanwhile has his Hollywood debut ‘The Gray Man’, co-starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, set to premiere on Netflix on July 15. He also has ‘Thiruchitrambalam’ directed by Mithran Jawahar gearing up for release. The film, which also stars Raashi Khanna, Nithya Menen and Priya Bhavani Shankar, is scheduled to hit screens on August 18.

Confirmed: Documentary on Nayanthara’s journey to be out on Netflix

When news about Nayathara and Vignesh Shivan’s wedding first broke, it was reported that Netflix will be streaming the ceremony with filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon supervising it. The latest we hear that the wedding ceremony will be a part of a documentary on Nayanthara’s journey. The streaming giant has partnered with Gautham Menon and the couple’s banner Rowdy Pictures for this project.

Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan got married in a posh resort in Chennai on June 9. It was an intimate wedding with only their close friends and select guests attending. Shah Rukh Khan, Rajinikanth, AR Rahman, Suriya and Jyotika were some of the big names who attended the wedding.

Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan first teamed up for ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’, which was the latter’s second directorial. They most recently worked together in ‘Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal’, also starring Vijay Sethupathi and Samantha. Nayanthara’s upcoming film ‘Connect’ with Ashwin Saravanan is also produced by their banner, Rowdy Pictures.

Upacharapoorvam Gunda Jayan gets a second part

‘Upacharapoorvam Gunda Jayan’ starring Saiju Kurup in the lead is getting a second part. The film’s director Arun Vaiga took to his social media handle to announce the same. The first part, backed by Dulquer Salmaan’s production house Wayfarer Films, got released in theatres in February and later on Amazon Prime Video. It received largely positive reviews and had a decent run.

‘Upacharapoorvvam Gunda Jayan’ scripted by Rajesh Varma is a hilarious family drama set in the backdrop of a wedding. Siju Wilson, Shabareesh Varma, Johny Antony, Sabumon, Sudheer Karamana, Jaffer Idukki, Shani Shaki, Biju Sopanam, Vijilesh, Sagar Surya, Vrindha Menon and Parvathy essayed important roles in the film. It is not yet known if the same cast will be retained for the sequel.

Mannum Niranje: New song from Malayankunju out

A new single from Fahadh Faasil’s Malayankunju has been released. Composed by AR Rahman, the track ‘Mannum Niranje’ is sung by Shweta Mohan and written by Vinayak Sasikumar. Earlier, the makers had released another single, ‘Chola Penne’, which sung by Vijay Yesudas. Vinayak had penned the lyrics for that track as well.

‘Malayankunju’ marks AR Rahman’s return to Malayalam cinema 30 years after the release of ‘Yodha’. The film starring Fahadh Faasil is a survival drama in which his character gets trapped in a landslide. Debutant Sajimon is directing the film and it is scripted by Mahesh Narayanan.

The latter, who had directed Fahadh in ‘Take Off’, ‘Malik’ and ‘CU Soon’, is also debuting as a cinematographer with this film. Produced by Fahadh’s father, filmmaker Fazil, ‘Malayankunju’ is set to hit screens tomorrow (July 22).

SJ Suryah also part of Vijay’s Varisu?

If reports are to be believed, SJ Suryah will be seen playing an important role in Vijay’s ‘Varisu’. It is worth a mention here that SJ Suryah had directed Vijay in the 2000-released ‘Kushi’. They have also acted together in ‘Nanban’ and ‘Mersal’. An official announcement regarding SJ Suryah being part of ‘Varisu’ is expected soon.

The film directed by Vamshi Paidipally already has a huge star cast. Rashmika Mandanna is paired with Vijay in the film. Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Srikanth, Khusboo, Sangeetha, Shaam and Jayasudha will be seen in other prominent roles.

Touted to be a family-based mass entertainer, the film is being planned as a Tamil-Telugu bilingual. It will be releasing in Telugu as ‘Vaarasudu’. Tollywood-based producers Dil Raju and Sirish are backing the film under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations. It is scheduled to hit screens on Pongal 2023.

The trailer of Vijay Deverakonda’s upcoming pan-Indian film ‘Liger’ has been released in multiple languages. Directed by Puri Jagganadh, ‘Liger’ is an action-thriller in which Vijay Deverakonda plays a kick boxer’s role. From the 2-minute long trailer, we learn that Ramya Krishnan plays his mother’s role. She introduces him as a mix of Tiger and Lion. The trailer is loud and action-packed. As part of preparations for the film, Vijay Deverakonda underwent a major physical transformation besides training in martial arts.

Bollywood actress Ananya Panday plays the female lead in the film. American boxing legend Mike Tyson is playing a cameo role and he appears towards the end of the trailer. It also stars Ronit Roy, Makarand Deshpande and Vishu Reddy in important roles.

Karan Johar is presenting the Hindi version of ‘Liger’. Charmee Kaur, Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta are also part of the production. The film has been planned to be released simultaneously on August 25 in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam.

Teaser of 19(1)(a) starring Nithya Menen and Vijay Sethupathi grabbed attention

We had recently reported about ’19 (1)(a)’ starring Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen as the leads getting a direct OTT release. The makers have announced that the film will be having its premiere on Disney + Hotstar. Recently, the streamer released the first teaser online. It is largely centered around the characters played by Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen.

’19 (1)(a)’ is written and directed by debutante Indu VS. As per the makers, the film has a pan-Indian subject that demands strong performers like Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen. Though the former has earlier played a brief cameo role in Jayaram’s ‘Marconi Mathai’, this is his first full fledged role in a Malayalam film.

Indrajith Sukumaran, Indrans, Srikanth Murali, Arya Salim, Bhagath Manuel and Deepak Parambol are some of the others in the cast. Govind Vasantha is the music director and Kerala State award winner Manesh Madhavan is handling the cinematography.

The film is produced by Anto Joseph Film Company.
