Vineeth and Anumol also part of Mammootty’s Kadugannawa Oru Yathra Kurippu

The upcoming Netflix anthology based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s stories is the final stages of production. Mammootty’s segment ‘Kadugannawa Oru Yathra Kurippu’ directed by Ranjith was recently wrapped up. The team shot for the portions in Sri Lanka and Kerala. Along with Mammootty, the cast also includes Vineeth, Anumol, Savithri Sreedharan, Manohari Joy, and ‘Rakshadhikari Baiju’ fame Sankar Induchoodan among others.

The upcoming short is an adaptation of the story of the same name written by MT. It recounts a journey that MT made to Sri Lanka during his early days. Mammootty plays MT’s character in it. Though Lijo Jose Pellissery was supposed to direct the film, he got replaced by Ranjith due to some unknown reasons.

The anthology also has films helmed by Priyadarshan, Santosh Sivan, Shyamaprasad, Rathish Ambat, Mahesh Narayanan, Jayaraj and MT’s daughter Aswathy.

Sequel on cards for Gautham Menon-Simbu film Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu

As per latest reports, the upcoming Gautham Menon-Simbu film ‘Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu’ is getting a second part. The makers had a brief schedule in Lucknow where they also shot some portions for the sequel. Scripted by Jeyamohan, the film tells the lives of local goons in Mumbai. The sequel is expected to be centre on the rise of Simbu’s lead character within the Mumbai underworld.

‘Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu’ marks Gautham Menon’s reunion with Simbu and composer AR Rahman after ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’ and ‘Achcham Yenbathu Madamaiyada’. Like their previous collaborations, the songs in the new film is also getting excellent response. The full album and trailer is set to be launched in a grand manner on September 2 in Chennai with Kamal Haasan as the chief guest. The film, produced by Vels International, is set to hit screens on September 15.

Thiruchitrambalam beats Asuran and Karnan to become Dhanush’s highest grosser in Tamil Nadu

Dhanush’s latest release ‘Thiruchitrambalam’ has turned out as a massive success becoming his highest grosser in Tamil Nadu. Within two weeks of release, the film has surpassed the shares of his previous blockbusters ‘Karnan’ and ‘Asuran’. As per reports, it has grossed Rs 70 crores from its 11 days run in Tamil Nadu alone.

‘Thiruchitrambalam’ got released in theatres on August 18. From the first week alone, it minted Rs 51.42 crore from TN. In the USA, UK, Australia and France, the film is the 3rd highest Tamil grosser in 2022 after Kamal’s ‘Vikram’ and Vijay’s ‘Beast’.

Directed by Mithran Jawahar, ‘Thiruchitrambalam’ is a light-hearted rom-com that has been lapped up by both the youth and family audience. Dhanush’s return to playing a middle-class hero, his chemistry with Nithya Menen, Anirudh’s music and the feel-good nature of the film have all worked in its favour.

Roshan Mathew and Shine Tom Chacko team up for Marthandan’s next

Marthandan, who has made films like ‘Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus’, ‘Acha Dhin’ and ‘Paavada’, is set to make a comeback four years after the release of ‘Johny Johny Yes Appa’. His new film will have Roshan Mathew and Shine Tom Chacko as the leads. It will be produced by Sujith Balan under the production house, SB Films

The untitled film is scripted by Ratheesh Ravi, who has penned films like ‘Pullikkaran Staraa’ and ‘Ishq’. He had also scripted a film titled ‘Adi’ starring Shine Tom Chacko and Ahaana Krishna, but the film is yet to be released. The team had recently released a casting call looking for the female lead. More details regarding the project, including when it goes on floors, are awaited.

Roshan Mathew, who was recently alongside Alia Bhatt in the Hindi film ‘Darlings’, has ‘Chathuram’ and ‘Oru Thekkan Thallu Case’ coming up in Malayalam. He is also playing the villain in the upcoming Vikram starrer ‘Cobra’. Shine Tom Chacko also has multiple projects like ‘Padavettu’, ‘Djinn’, ‘Roy’, and ‘Velleppam’ lined up.

Jayam Ravi and Keerthy Suresh to star in Siren; Motion poster out

Jayam Ravi and Keerthy Suresh are coming together for the first time for a new film titled ‘Siren’. Billed as an emotional action drama, the film reportedly has Keerthy as a cop. If true, it will be her second cop role after playing a constable in ‘Saani Kaayidham’.

‘Siren’ is directed by debutant Anthony Bhagyaraj, who has earlier worked on films like ‘Viswasam’, ‘Irumbuthirai’, and ‘Hero’. Yogi Babu and Samuthirakani will also be seen in important roles in the film. Music is by GV Prakash and cinematography is by SK Selvakumar. Ruben has been assigned as the editor. The film is produced by Jayam Ravi’s mother-in-law Sujatha Vijaykumar under the banner of Home Movie Makers.

Jayam Ravi also has ‘Ponniyin Selvan – 1’, ‘Agilan’ and an untitled film with Ahmed coming up. Keerthy Suresh, on the other hand, has ‘Maamannan’ in Tamil and ‘Dasara’ and ‘Bhola Shankar’ in Telugu lined up.

We had earlier reported about M Mukundan’s short story ‘Auto Rickshawkarante Bharya’ getting made into a film by veteran director Harikumar. Suraj Venjaramoodu and Ann Augustine play the lead roles in the film, the first look poster of which got released last day. It features the two leads who play a couple.

The film is adapted for the screen M Mukundan himself. The story revolves around a lazy auto-rickshaw driver Sajeevan, hailing from Meethalappura in Mahe. He is married to Radhika, a bold and mature woman, who is forced by circumstances to take up the auto-rickshaw for their living.

Later, there were reports shout Manju Warrier doing the female lead’s part. Eventually, the makers got Ann Augustine on board. The actress is making her comeback of sorts with this film. She was last seen in a full-fledged role in ‘Nee-Na’, released in 2015.

Rorschach making video grabs attention

Recently, the making video of Mammootty starrer ‘Rorschach’ was released online. Unlike the usual making videos, it is an intriguing one that gives proper thriller vibes. Interestingly, Mammootty’s face is not revealed throughout the video.

The film directed by Nisam Basheer of ‘Kettyolaanu Ente Malaakha’ fame promises to be a gripping psychological thriller. It is scripted by Sameer Abdul, who has earlier penned the Asif Ali films, ‘Ibilis’ and ‘Adventures of Omanakuttan’.

‘Rorschach’ also stars Sharafudheen, Jagadheesh, Grace Antony, Bindu Panicker, Sanju Sivaram, and Kottayam Nazeer in important roles. Asif Ali is reportedly playing a cameo role in the film. The actor is said to have shot his portions during the final schedule in Dubai.

Nimish Ravi of ‘Kurup’ fame is the cinematographer of ‘Rorschach’. Mithun Mukundan, the composer of the acclaimed Kannada film ‘Garuda Gamana Vrishaba Vahana’, is making his Malayalam debut with this film. Kiran Das is handling the edits.

Mammootty’s own production house Mammootty Kampany is producing ‘Rorschach’, which is eyeing theatrical release by the end of September. The makers have announced that the trailer will be out on September 7.

Pa Ranjith’s ‘Natchathiram Nagargiradhu’ is set to hit screens tomorrow (August 31). Prior to that, the director hosted a special screening of the film in Mumbai, which was attended by filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap, Nandita Das and Neeraj Ghaywan. Following the screening, Anurag and Neeraj took to their social media handles to heap praise on Ranjith and the film.

Saw #natchathiramnagargiradhu last night. The uncensored version . This is a film playing inside Pa Ranjith’s head . There is an order in his chaotic mind . Where so many of his identities are having conversations and conflicting with each other . They just want to be and in order to be, they have to assert themselves and hold on to their grounds . It’s a film about love and how it needs to survive above all prejudice and hatred . Rene in the film imbibes the spirit of Pa Ranjith . This is His most personal work and my favourite Pa Ranjith film. He is his most vulnerable and naked in this film . Special mention for all the wonderful actors and the music and the cinematographer and the editor and the whole crew.

Mohanlal to team up with Nna Thaan Case Kodu director Ratheesh Poduval?

For a while now there have been speculations about Mohanlal teaming up with director Ratheesh Balakrishna Poduval for a film produced by Santhosh T Kuruvilla. With the director’s recent release ‘Nna Thaan Case Kodu’ emerging as a huge success, talks about his film with Mohanlal have once again surfaced. Buzz is that the makers are planning to shoot the film in Kasargod after Mohanlal completes his ongoing project ‘Ram’. An official confirmation is still awaited.

Mohanlal currently has multiple projects lined up in his kitty. He has Shaji Kailas’ ‘Alone’ and Vysakh’s ‘Monster’ gearing up for release. Both the films were initially planned as direct OTT releases, but it is now learnt that ‘Monster’ is eyeing a theatre release. Apart from this, Mohanlal has also completed the shoot of his directorial debut ‘Barroz’ and the Netflix film ‘Olavum Theeravum’.

He still has a few more portions, which includes a foreign schedule, of Jeethu Joseph’s ‘Ram’ left to be shot. ‘Empuraan’, the second part of Lucifer’ is also in the pipeline. Recently, the superstar also signed a multilingual project titled ‘Vrushabha’ with Kannada filmmaker Nanda Kishore. AVS Studios and First Step Movies are jointly producing the film, which is planned to go on floors in May 2023 and eyes an early 2024 release.

First look poster of Lovefully Yours Vedha released

As reported earlier by us, Tamil filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajisha Vijayan, Sreenath Bhasi and a few others are coming together for a campus-based entertainer titled ‘Lovefully Yours Vedha’. Debutant Praghesh Sukumaran is directing the film and it is scripted by Babu Vailathur. Last day, actor Kunchacko Boban shared the film’s first look through his social media handle.

We hear that ‘Lovefully Yours Vedha’, set in the 90s, revolves around campus romance, friendships and student politics. Though Gautham Menon had earlier made a brief appearance as himself in the 2018-film ‘Naam’, this will be his first full-length role in Malayalam. The cast also includes Venkitesh, Anikha Surendran, Sruthi Jayan, Chandhunadh, Appani Sarath, IM Vijayan and Nilja K Baby.
